  1. What is your questions? If you are looking for clarification on a part number you will get more luck in the part number request forum.
  2. Wow, what kind of dealership are you workign with. They want to sell you a $80K car yet no "test drive". I would find another dealer and drive the cars.
  3. Is your father own a bodyshop or a paint expert? If not, I would stay way clear of that route. While you can paint some smaller bits yourself, nothing will turn out like the factory look which Eric (bumperplugs) does just as well if not better. Remember you are paying for quality AND name. You can save a few bucks with somebody like Eric if you can live without the "genuine" part.
  4. Have you thought about maybe driving both so YOU determine which you prefer and can answer most of these questions? I would think that your local P-Car dealer will have several 02+ 996s on the lot to choose from as well. Drive an 02+ so you can see the differences between your 99-01 996 and the 02+ 996, then drive the 997 and you will have quite a bit to take in. Sounds like a fun day at the dealer driving P-Cars :)
  5. My take on it is this. Stop worrying about something that "could" happen. Porsche is on its 3 gen RMS seal and it is supposed to be much better. Some have no reoccurance of RMS after the new seal is put in. Enjoy the car.
  6. Dealer or Paintscratch.com
  7. Yes. Both the bin covers and the door pulls. The door pulls are very simple you just have to be careful with them since the tabs that hold them in place break very easily.....ask me how I know :(
  8. The door lid covers and handles are simple (except for that darn pin that holds the lid cover to the door and that last screw that takes a ton of patience). Do a search under the DIY section threads for the instructions. That is where I got mine. As for the cluster surround I can't help out on that.
  9. Do a search on that. I can't remember the userID's but there have been several people recently that have done this. Also, search over on rennlist.com and 6speed Sorry I couldn't help more, but at least this is a start.
  10. Eli, I might be interested. But I don't need the rubber. What are you looking to get? PM me.
  11. As Loren said make sure it is for a <MY01 or the lights won't line up. If you get a genuine GT2 or copy for an >MY02 then you will have zero chance of it fitting unless you change out the fenders and lights. If you do go the complete change route, talk to Eli since he just did it on his 996.
  12. As I stated I do 7.5K miles between changes of oil and filter. I have tossed around the idea of doing filters at 5K intervals and oil at 10K intervals. Sounds a bit more on track as to what should be done.
  13. What? Then why would they sell it? All that needs to be done is a "cut-down" mod of the reinforcement bar behind the bumper. Many guys have done this when doing a turbo facelift. Do a search on this (both here and rennlist) since it has been covered extensively.
  14. I will just have to assume that 996 343 701 21 is the replacement for 996 343 701 04 since it was int he factory box with the factory sticker sealed direect from Germany that had the correct kit part number.
  15. I saw one in this months PP catalog (p140) for 99-01. But, there is a $1800 price tag that goes with it.
  16. Also, what TP stated. My apologies, I assumed you had already looked there and the sticker was not present. As TP said, there is a sticker under the hood and in the maintenance booklet. You can then use any of many option decoders avail on the net.
  17. Are the following 2 part numbers the same? I just recieved my RoWM030 kit from Germany and has at the part numbers included from the PET list except the fron t stabilizer that was included has a 21 ending versus 04. Just want to make sure I am ok before I drop it off for installation. Also, does $1200 sound right for install and allignment? Thanks! Dell P/N's: 996 343 701 04 (from PET list for 000 044 500 15) 996 343 701 21 (received in shipment)
  18. The dealer should have that on file.
  19. Not sure if the Turbo is the same as a NA 996, but on a 996 if you overfill you can remove the plastic housing cover over the oil filter since it holds some oil. I did that once when I overfilled a 1/2 quart. Took me about 3-4 attemtps. Unscrew, empty, screw back on, restart car, turn off car, unscrew cover, drain, etc. till I got the proper reading. At first I tried to use my MityVac oil extractor that I use on my MB but the tube was not long enough (guess the oil is quite a ways from the oil cap on the P-Car). Hope that helps, but then again I am not familiar with the Turbo's.
  20. Do a search on this topic. Both here and over at rennlist.com It has been covered extensively. Basically the peel and stick kits are a basic "you get what you pay for" deals. Trashy, cheap, and should not be in a Porsche. If there are specific parts you are after you have several options available. eBay is one place to get parts, another is have them painted to match. For example, the alum look pieces are artic silver painted from the factory. If that is the route you are going to go, check with Eric (bumperplugs) since this is something he specializes in and offers for a good bit cheaper than the dealer. Also, check with the guys up at Sunset Porsche (board sponsor--Parts at Dealer Cost). I have spent thousands with them over the years and they have some of the best prices and GREAT customer service.
  21. Very odd....the instructions are in my manual. Sorry I can't help (don't want to miss speak) since I have a 996 and not sure if the procedure is the same.
  22. Worst case? How about RMS out of spec and needing a new engine!
  23. Did he buy it new? Have you run a carfax on it to very odometer, accidents, owners, auctions, etc???
  24. First thing I would ask is why the oil change every 3K? That is beyond excessive. Porsche reccomends every 15K. Also, and as petty as it sounds, I would ask why he re-badged a car that it wasn't (big pet peeve here and to most P-Car owners). Third, the mileage is extremely high. A 99 Boxster with average miles should be in the 40K-60K miles range (8-12K a year). Has the car been tracked? Does it have the CPO warranty? If so, it is transferable and has (possible) a few months left and/or 9K miles. FYI...you never said what he was selling it for ($) and why he is selling it? I always ask those questions. Maybe it is a great car but he is selling it b/c the maintenance is starting to become more frequent and costly (not that he would tell you that).
