  1. I have an '03 C2 so this doesn't exactly answer your question... Akkurat uses GIAC software (web site) and the GIAC site has HP and torque info. I had my C2 flashed with the GIAC software by an installer other than Akkurat but it should be the same. Just about everyone recommends combining the software upgrade with a cold air intake but I did only the software. Here's my experience: - Minus: No noticeable increase in torque/HP - Minus: Reduced mileage by 2.5 mpg - Minus: Rougher at idle - Plus: Nearly eliminated the variocam "stutter" that occurs around 3,500 RPM For me, it wasn't really worth it.
  2. Knew they looked like Champions! :P $5k sounds about right. The monolites are a very light, very well made wheel (just put some on my C2) and other models (regular production line) run about $4.5k a set.
  3. Nice wheels! Just looking at their construction they look exactly like a Champion Monolite (Champion Motorsport), except they don't sell a ten-spoke design like that. Another close match would be an HRE 843R (HRE Wheels) in a painted finish with a polished rim, except the HRE spokes are a bit thinner. Maybe someone else knows exactly what they are...
  4. Some things to consider: 1. The tire you want to reuse on the rear (265/35) is not an OE 18" size for that year C2 (285/30 is the correct size). Dependent on the manufacturer that tire is likely meant for a 9" wheel and may fit a 10" wheel at most. 2. The tire you want to reuse on the front (225/40) is an OE 18" size and if it is an OE model tire it will fit on an 8.5" wheel (even though the OE wheel width is 8"). 3. The combination of increased offset (from 50mm) with a wider front wheel means that you will reduce inside clearance by 9mm a side (.4"), extend outward 5mm more a side, and have a net 10mm increase in front track. 4. The decreased offset (from 65mm) for the rear means that you will increase inside clearance by 17mm a side, extend outward 17mm more a side (.7"), and have a net 34mm increase in rear track. 5. The overall effect of this change (aside from clearance issues) will be an increase in understeer. I labored over a wheel/tire change recently for this same MY C2 and this doesn't sound like a good change to me. I can't imagine that the rear is going to look right or fit inside the fender.
  5. I have no idea whether this is right, but wouldn't odd versus even gear shifting problems indicate a (somewhat) out of adjustment shift linkage? It seems to make sense the way the shift linkage works.
  6. Thanks Tool Pants -- as always this board is a treasure trove of good technical info. A bit off-topic for this thread, but I have a question about the short shifter. After installation, shifting requires noticeably more effort (not just getting it into reverse). The effort reduces once the engine reaches normal operating temp, but it's still there. I expected some increased effort but not this. The best way for me to describe it is there is a definite "chunk" when engaging any of the forward gears, particularly 5th and 6th. The gears stay engaged (don't pop out) and aside from the "chunk" there is no difficulty shifting into any gear. The "chunk" may have been there with the stock shifter but I never noticed it. What are the symptoms of a poorly adjusted shift linkage? I always assumed I would have problems on one end of the shift or the other -- 1st, 3rd, and 5th versus 2nd, 4th, and 6th. Are there other symptoms?
  7. I just installed one of these this weekend along with the B&M short shifter. Had I read this thread prior to install, I would have taken the suggestion to install the shift link using the Porshe shift adjustment tool on the stock shifter. It might take a little extra time mounting/unmounting the shiftlink on the stock shifter but it takes all of the guesswork out of shift adjustment. As it turns out (on my EVO Shiftlink at least), the shift cable would not fit as deeply into the shiftlink socket as it would on the stock plastic shift cable connector. As a result, marking the cable position with the stock cable connector in place did me little good when it came time to install the EVO unit. Another suggestion: Get the length of the shiftlink correct and the lock nut tightened before bolting down the shifter. It's hell to get to that lock nut once the shifter is mounted!
  8. Uh, with all you garage gurus loitering about I thought this might be an easy question. No takers?
  9. Novice mechanic question :) I've seen my car lifted from the rear with a floor jack placed centerline but I never saw where the lift point was. Where is a safe (i.e. non-damaging) lift point when lifting from the rear with a floor jack?
  10. I've always had good luck with Meguiar's products for this. I remove scratches with their #17 Clear Plastic Cleaner and follow it with their #10 Clear Plastic Polish. When I'm through the window looks like new. I don't know if you have easy access to Meguiar's products. If you don't, you can order online direct: Meguiar's Home Page
