  1. there are many types of coolant caps to choose from for the 987s. some has different parts numbers, colors etc. could you tell me which part number is your new replacement? thanks mate.
  2. My Boxster 987 (2006) Leaked coolant the first time last month, but stopped after that for a good 4 weeks before it happened again. This time all the coolant leaked out after an hour of drive. I thought it could be some hose or radiator leak, but after thourough check, none of these showed any signs of stress or leakage. I inspected the area of leak and found that it leaked mainly at the rear wheel where the coolant expansion tank directly lies. I also found the area of the rear bonnet where the coolant cap and oil caps are, wet with vapour. I suspected it could be the expansion cap that was faulty. Is there any release/ relief valve on the cap that causes excess pressure to purge coolant out from the expansion cap? If I have to buy a new expansion cap, is this cap the same for all year of manufacture? (97-08) another question - there is a metal lever behind the plastic cover where the oil and coolant caps are, do I have to release this valve if I refill the coolant with water to remove air from the system, since the coolant all leaked out bone dry, I needed to remove excess air from the system. thanks.

  4. Loren, thanks, that should be the diagram, except that the black plastic clip is the one attached below part #20 and it is not in the diagram.
  5. thanks loren and ericinboca, the broken clip looks like it's at the position of #21 , but from the diagram, the shape doesn't seem the same. I have attached a photo of the broken clip. it is rounded with an extension on one end. Any part number for this? Is this the clip that attaches the lever that controls the angle of the headlights? Thanks guys.
  6. Is there a part number to this clip? Does it matter if this clip is not replaced? What is this thing anyway? It seems like there is a connecting rod that moves a lever everytime the control arm link moves. I am confused.
  7. My Mechanic broke a black plastic clip supposedly link to a sensor lever that was hooked to the rounded end of the control arm link. What sensor is that and it was attached to only one side of the arm. I am trying to replace this piece before he completes the fixing, but I just couldn't figure out what part is it and what does it serve. Anyone that can enlighten? Thanks
  8. thanks Loren i just needed some figures from anyone who has a similar set up so that it could serve me as a guide as to what I can expect from the alignment to give my car the optimum handling and minimum uneven wear on the tires.
  9. thanks for your advice. given that the guy at the alignment shop doesn't have any clue on what specifications for my car with the modified parts, could you or anyone give me an idea of what the specifications should be roughly like? could I take it from the specifications for Cayman instead? Our cars drive with the steering wheel on the right hand side, will it be of any difference from the left hand ones ? thanks
  10. Hi, Is there anywhere I can find out the factory specifications for the standard Boxster 987 (2006) Wheel Alignment? I need to do an alignment for my car, however my car is no longer the factory standard as I had the following items changed - - Eibach Pro Kit - 19" Carrera S Wheels - H&R 7mm/14mm Spacers Will it be possible to get my car to the factory standard specs without having to change any of my items? How do I let the guy at the alignment shop know since he does not have the software details of my car alignemnt specs? One more thing, I heard from some guys that it's better to sit in the car whilst doing the alignment, and if possible fill up the tank too. How does that affect the alignment, if it affects at all. Thanks.
  11. Anyone knows the amount of brake fluid that needs to be flushed for both the Manual and the Tiptronic Boxsters? What the manual states is that the car needs only 0.39L for the brake fluid. Then how about the Clutch? Does the Tiptronic works the same as the Manual ones? Thanks.
  12. I recently changed my engine oil and oil filter at 4000km / 8month interval from the previous change. Now total mileage 33000km, March 2006 Old. My mechanic, during the oil change, removed my oil filter and took my oil filter casing to wash with water. To his surprise, he showed me that during the washing of the filter case, the water turn red. I checked the used oil filter, however didn't find any part of the filter contain red ink parts or prints (it was Mahle filter). My previous oil change was Mobil One. We were totally confused and didn't know what it could have been, any one? (Just a wild idea, could it be that my previous mechanic filled my coolant into the wrong inlet? (My coolant is red!) Could it have caused white smoke or anything that I might have noticed if so?)

I managed to change the brake pads and the sensors without doin anything else. the brakes seems to work fine. erm.. i hope there's nothing else I need to change as it seems to me that the rest of the parts still looks fine. And as for the brake wear sensors, both sensors are of different part numbers and basically they are the same, just a minor difference in the facing of the sensor attachment to the pads itself is of the opposite direction. just for info. thanks guys.

  15. hi orient express, The front brake pads are almost gone, guess i really have a heavy brake foot! guess I have to go easy on that to achieve your 100,000km distance on originals, I must say it's very impressive.. with regards to the loctite on the caliper bolts, I have absolute no idea what is that. . are u referring to adhesive on the caliper bolts? I don't track my car but I guess one culprit could be that I am using a 19" Carrera S Wheels, wondering if that could be a cause for the excessive brake wear (maybe I am just not willing to admit to my heavy brake foot? by the way, the brake sensors have different part numbers , namely - Front L (997-612-755-00-M163) Front R (997-612-757-00-M163) and Rear L & R (987-612-676-01-M163) as well as the pads part numbers Front Brake Pads (987-351-939-03-M100) Rear Brake Pads (987-352-939-01-M100) could anyone verify all the part numbers are correct? thank you guys.
  16. I noticed the Front Brake Wear Sensors are different (Left and Right has different lengths). I am wondering if these Sensors are the same for Boxsters of a different driver layout, ie. Left Hand and Right Hand Drive. My OBC tells me I need to change my Front Brake Pads, so I need to change them together with the sensors. How do I tell if I should change the Ventilated Discs as well? the car has done 32,000km Year 2006 and was factory fitted till now. Is there any thing else I need to change such as the dampers plates and the expanding springs together with the pads change? Thank you.
  17. Hi, I doubt the MY2009 Boxster's LED Tail Lamps fit onto the earlier 987s.. Is there anyone who can confirm this? Also is there any aftermarket LED Tail Lamps that fits the earlier 987s if the new LED lamps doesn't fit? Will the system be affected if such lamps are fitted? Likewise for the front Headlamps.. pretty much different in shape for the front as well? Maybe changing the whole bumper to fit the new lamps?
  18. Hi, the maintenance schedule booklet didn't come with my car, and I have no idea what my next servicing should cover. Could anyone provide me with details on the manufacturer's maintenance schedule? (eg replacement of certain parts) My 987 is now coming to 33,000km and it is about 2years 10months old. I have my servicing on oil,oil filter,cabin air filter changed 10months ago at 28,000km, and I would like to maintain a servicing history of every 10months, on top of any other parts that needed to be changed according to the manufacturer's servicing recommendations. By the way, could anyone provide me with the actual maintenance schedule booklet in soft copy? I know there is a generic maintenance schedule somewhere in this forum, but that I suppose that isn't the actual schedule?
  19. my side door window on the left seems kinda erratic, when opening the door sometimes it doesn't nudge down. i have to tell my friends everytime to open slowly just in case the window doesn't nudge down and clips the sill portion of the hood and chips the glass. is it a sensor problem?
  20. i took over the car at 10miles. if the limit tag is really what was driven to the dealers, then at 20mph, the car would have done half an hour. that means it's pretty difficult to put the whole blame on the dealer. The dealer said their shipment is delivered via vehicle trucks and they do not drive the cars. By the way, i did not see the tag when i collected the car. Maybe they have taken it off by that time.
  21. I just sent in my car for the first time at Porsche, and after collecting the car, I was advised by my chief mechanic that my car has been driven into the redline a couple of times. I had no recollection of my car revving beyond 3000rpm since i had the car, so i was pretty confused what he meant by that. So i got a friend to diagnose with a DME read, and to my shocking surprise, my car had a stage 1 over rev at 259 / 0h and stage 2 over rev at 31 / 0h! According to my friend, the engine was over revved 259 and 31 ignitions, the latest over rev for both stages at the 0 hour!! Does that mean that during the transporting of the car from the Port to the Porsche Showroom, the driver was the main culprit of the over rev? I am the only one driving this car, and never have done such a silly thing to my own car during the run in, so who else could have done it? i wonder. Also, I thought Porsche cars do have a self limiting rev for the first couple of mileage that prevents over revving, mainly to prevent it during the run in. Is it true? Could my friend's readout be wrong? Even if it is real, could I pin point Porsche for their carelessness? After all, the DME only states during the first hour that the 259 and 31 ignitions has been recorded, it doesn't mean that the driver was the culprit. Anyone, please advise.
