  1. About the blown speaker question, I just replaced mine on my 05. The foam trim on the outside edge of the paper cones was shot. I suspect the Florida heat makes this worse. I ordered speakers at approx $200 and installed myself. I looked for aftermarket speakers but could not find any to fit, so went with OEM. Great sound now. Need trim tools and patience to remove door panels. There are good diy posts on Porsche forums out there. On the stuck cd I had that problem too. But after enough tries turning the power off and pushing the eject button the cd would come out. I worked around this with a Dension iPod kit. Best investment so far. Good luck.
  2. Sounds like I am not completely alone. And the funny thing is that I waited this long to post this issue and since I did, the CD eject function is working just fine. Let's see for how long. If it goes all bad again I am going to look for a diy to remove the facia of the CD deck so I can take a look inside for something obvious. I could also try another Porsche dealer south of me - where I actually purchased the car - and see if they want to cover under the CPO warranty. The local dealer in West Palm Beach is no help at all. thx all for your replies.
  3. I always need to play with the eject button 5-10 times before the CD finally comes out. Problem started right away - first week after purchase. Its a 2005 CPO I purchased 18 months ago with the CDR-24 unit. The CD comes out some and then goes right back in. After enough tries it finally comes out enough for me to grab it. I waited too long and the original warranty is over - my bad - and the CPO warranty won't cover "wear and tear" items. I was wondering if this was a common issue and there was a simple fix. Afterall, the CD eject function technology is so simple and reliable in PCs, ect. thx.
  4. My guess is that the previous owner installed the lower profile tires to make the car even lower - or to prevent rub (the wheels are aftermarket and slightly wider than stock). And the dealer just put the same back on. I noticed that the tires in my car are the 986 S recommended tires. So I can see how the dealer could have had them in inventory. Based on this forum's comments, the alignment is the major issue here. I will align the 4 corners and get new rear tires. The next time around I hope to upgrade to 19" wheels with 987 approved tire sizes. I like the Carrera S style wheels they offered for the '05 987 (I believe they are called the Lobster claw style). Anyways, thanks all for your constructive help. More later ....
  5. I have been aiming for 37psi on rear tires - checking and re-filling monthly. But I just checked them tonight and they were at 32-33 psi. Maybe weekly checks make more sense. I will look into alignment possibility. Does rear axle have set camber? Thanks for you reply ...
  6. I am surprised that my rear tires wore out in less that 6K miles! My dealer installed new Michelin Pilot Sports all around (OEM "Rib" originals) as part of the CPO inspection. The front tires have plenty of tread remaining, but the rear tires are worn completelly on the insides - while the outsides are just past the tread indicator. Is this normal? Is mis-alignment causing the extreme wear rate- especially in the insides? I toss the car around from time to time but never raced it. One thing I should note is that the original owner had lowered the suspension (Techart springs) and also did some sway bar upgrades. On top of that, the tires are lower profile than OEM spec. The rear tires are 265-35-18 vs OEM 265-40-18, up front they are 225-40-18 vs OEM 235-40-18. Not sure why but that's the way she came to me. I am thinking of changing the rears with same tires for now and do an alignment. Longer term, as the fronts wear out, I would change all tires to PS2's of OEM spec sizes. Any comments and suggestions? At $650+ a pair, they should last at least 12K! Thanks ... .
  7. I just want to make sure that the odd setup doesn't affect the handling and make spirited driving unsafe. But I am not planning to race it. Also, I keep scraping every bump on the road with the soft rubber flaps in the front wheel well - maybe setup is too low. On the other hand, the tires are brand new Michelin PS2's so I will not change them until they wear out ($$$). Check out a close-up of the wheels. Ever seen these before?
  8. My 05 Boxter came with suspension mods and odd aftermaket wheels - see attached photo (hope it shows up). I cheched the springs and they say Techart 87 HA on them - so I assume from researching internet that they lower the ride by 1 inch. The wheels are 18 inch but tires are odd sizes - 225/40 up front and 265/35 on rear; lowering the ride some more. I like the look and performance but wonder if this is a recommended setup. Any help will be greatly appreciated. The wheels are good looking but have no brand markings anywhere. By the way, I love the car... and this site is the best I have run into.
