  1. 29 psi = 2.00 bar 36 psi = 2.48 bar but many people recommend higher pressure in the front, usually around 32 psi (2.21 bar)
  2. It is possible to install the SSK in such a way that damage to the transmission happens. The cable that adjusts the length could be too long or too short and that would cause the shifter to not put the transmission all the way in gear.
  3. I believe the Cats have a 10-year warrantee. You may want to have your dealer take a look at it (and fix it for free if that's the problem).
  4. I'm definitely interested in such a write-up.
  5. I don't think they pull that piece out any more. They got too many MAF sensor problems and have since redesigned the EVO intake to not replace that piece.
  6. eBay is pretty good. There are many options out there, ranging widely in price. The cheapest you'll see for a new one is about $150.
  7. One concern is that LEDs get hard to see when not viewed straight on. I worry about SUVs that are really high up not being able to see the lights very well.
  8. 1) Nobody knows since it is brand new. But the quality seems to be on par with the 2003 Porsche top from what I've read. 2) The headliner is separate. It is available from places that sell the glass-windowed top or you can reuse the one on your car (if it has one) 3) I believe the answer is "yes" but you can look at the pictures posted in this thread and decide for yourself. Note that the factory top also has this. It is true that the visibility will be limited as compared to a clean, dry plastic window. But it is very hard to keep the plastic window clean and dry.
  9. Perfect! That's exactly what I wanted to hear. You're the best, TP.
  10. BTW, it's a 1999 Boxster with a factory 4-spoke steering wheel
  11. I would like to remove the airbag cover to hand paint the crest. I have read the DIY instructions on removing the steering wheel. Is it possible to remove just the airbag or just the airbag cover? If so, how? (Just pull?) Is it better/safer/easier to just remove the whole wheel?
  12. Also, check out these guys "Los Angeles Porsche Dismantler" They list a 2.5 engine as $4-5000 with a $2-500 shipping charge in the US. http://911pcar.com/Porsche_Parts/porsche_p...e.htm#996%203.4 I cannot say anything good/bad about their services as I have never used them.
  13. One of the nice improvements of the later models years is a liner on the convertible top that absorbes a lot of sound. Has anyone tried to put one of these in an earlier model? I noticed that one company that sells the glass-rear-window convertible top for earlier models also sells a "headliner assembly". http://www.gahh.com/boxster-roadster-1999-...7_341_3004.html
  14. Me too. I used basically the same solution and have had no problems in a year since.
  15. If you look closely at the GAHH top, you can see that it uses thin (unobtrusive) defroster strips, unlike BAS. And it's cheaper too. See http://www.gahh.com/boxster/BOXSTER6.jpg Anyone know what "Sonnendeck Canvas" is?
  16. Is it my imagination or are the defogger strips in that window big and ugly? The 2003 glass rear window and the hard top (all years) have nice thin unobtrusive defogger strips.
  17. I don't think the hose in that TSB is the same one that keoni is referring to. There is an accordian-style hose that is connected to the bottom of the oil separator. It is only a couple of inches long at most. It has been known to crack and cause problems. When you buy an oil separator, it comes with a new hose. I don't think the dealer sells the hose separately. I bought the oil separator for about $125 (can't remember the exact number). I don't have a picture handy, but the oil separator is located slightly to the passenger side of the center of the car, mounted vertically. It is accessible from the top and from the bottom. The hose in question is on the bottom, sticking out to the side. The oil separator has been redesigned 3 times (so there are four different versions out there). I would make sure to get the latest one.
  18. Do you have a picture of the gauges with the face removed? (Great pics, BTW)
  19. In case anyone was wondering, this OEM supplier of leather products for Porsche seems to have what I want (recover kit) for just over $70. http://www.aglausa.com/p/home.html They also have real leather replacement shift boots (they say the stock is vinyl) and hand brake leather replacement.
  20. Now the wheel crests look just like the ones on my 1999. They came uncolored and I painted them myself.
  21. I just ordered a pair of Carrera GT key heads for use on my 986. Rick at Suncoast says that the internals for the GT head will work to replace a 2-button 986 key head. I will, of course, have to reprogram the car to work with the new key heads.
  22. I'm undecided about the 3-spoke. I actually like the 4-spoke. I've driven with both (in two different cars) many times. I was thinking this would be a $50-100 venture. How much does a new 3-spoke go for?
  23. The leather on my 1999 Boxster steering wheel is getting a bit worn. I'd like to get back to the grippy new steering wheel feel. I have a few questions: - Is this something that can reasonably be done by a skilled DIYer? - Is there a kit for this? - Are there different options for thickness/leather type? - How much should I expect to pay?
