  1. I only notice the rattle at low idle when the car is warm. As matter of fact I took it to the dealer today and, of course, the car wouldn't do it. BTW the windshield is something like $550 plus install, less than I expected.
  2. I went to the track on Saturday, car ran great but I picked up a rock chip in the front windscreen along the way, initially it didn't look too bad but by the next morning it had extended to an 8 inch crack! I wonder how much a new windshield will cost, I hear it might be $1K. Then to make things worse my left side PSE is rattling like somebody left a bier can inside of it. It has always had a very subtle rattle that went away after I tightened everything up but now it's back . I can't say I'm very impressed with the PSE durability at this point. Luckily they should still be under warranty, FWIW they are the early 3.4L style PSE with the smaller bypass pipes. Anyone else have this experience??
  3. I just bought a new cable connector for my shifter, as the old one has a lot of wear on the rubber exterior, I don't want to be stuck somewhere. The new piece only cost $16, far less than the shift link, and it seems a little sturdier than the original.
  4. Can't beat the price. FWIW I tried some Sylvania Silverstar bulbs a while back thinking they would be a good/cheap alternative to the Litronics. Unfortunately they were only marginally better, maybe about 10% better than stock. I didn't feel too bad as the price was reasonable, though not as cheap as these bulbs. just be careful, a lot of these aftermarket bulbs run very hot and can melt the housing. I ended up doing the Litronic upgrade, I couldn't be happier.
  5. Does anyone have the pn for that black shift cable connector on the 996, you know the one that has a history of breaking:). I want to pick up a spare.
  6. I can tell you there is a difference between the B&M and the factory SSK. The Porsche SS has about 10% shorter travel, although that is by feel.
  7. It's a huge job. I quit the project when I came to the "drop the engine" step. Not worth it IMO :(
  8. Thanks Loren, if they can't fix mine I'll need to replace it. WE doesn't have any right now so it's either Gert or the dealer, same money with the exchange rate:(.
  9. There was also a dipstick upgrade available for 3.6 engines. Just keep it 1 bar below max before you go to the track and it might just cure the problem. I think they sometimes get overfilled at the oil change. I recently watched a tech change the oil on a C4 while I was waiting for my car, the most junior tech was assigned the task, and he was unfortunately paying very little attention.
  10. I have seen this many times on the 3.6 engines and a few 3.4s. Usually occurs shortly after an oil change, most good mechanics will tell you to keep the level 1 bar below max on the dash guage if you run it hard. Nothing to worry about according to the service guys.
  11. I like those Sport Technos on your Boxster.
  12. I called WE, they will not fix a 2 piece wheel but they can get me a new one. Only trouble it's on back order, none in the US right now. But, Gert can hook me up if need be :clapping: . Hopefully they will fix it, the dealer seemed pretty confident.
  13. Found out today that one of my front Sport Design wheels is bent, dealer thinks they can fix it I have my doubts. Worst part is the 18x8 52mm wheel is going to be hard to get if it can't be repaired. Anyone have positive or negative experience with bent wheel repairs? :help: Oh yeah the car has a bad vibration now above 60mph, the weird thing I really didn't notice it before, I guess the new tires really bring it out.
  14. I hit a parking curb a couple of weeks ago and only noticed the other day that I have a small crack in the front right corner of the nose:(. You really can't notice the damage at all, unless I pointed it out. The dealer says the whole nose should be replaced, although it might be repaired by a good body shop. Here's my thinking :D , if the nose must go then why not upgrade to the full factory or Ruf aerokit?? What do you guys think? Seems logical to me...
  15. Will GT3 coolng ducts fit a "regular" non-aero 996? Along that same line, would C4S /TT inner fender wells, with their additional coling slots, fit on a C2? Any other simple fixes to improve brake cooling on a street car??TIA
  16. The same reason they charge $700 for a $200 shifter that probably costs $100 to build. They're the most profitable automaker in the world baby! :jump:
  17. That sounds like an exhaust or header leak to me. Lifters would sound like marbles, connecting rods would be a loud KNOCK.
  18. Ahhhh! That finally got it. I turned the parking lights on and kept sliding the light assembly in and out using the tool from the kit and it seemed to intermttently work. I played with it for a while until I found a happy place. But I can't say I'm 100% pleased, I bet the contact is just barely hanging together. I'll see how it goes for the next few days. Thanks again Loren.
  19. I don't see anything loose in there on initial inspection, but this would make the most sense. Ill keep checking. Thanks.
  20. Thanks loren, do you mean the pins on the light assemby itself or the extra litronic wiring harness? Thanks
  21. I just installed the Litronic retrofit kit on my '00 996, overall the install was very staightforward. Everything works fine except I have no parking light or turn signal on the passenger side front. All the bulbs look ok and the fuses are good. Any thoughts??? Am I going to have to take it in?:(
  22. Try www.weissach.com for P car parts, they are a Ruf dealer in BC but also sell oem stuff. Popular 996 mods are: 1. Suspension upgrade to ROW(Rest Of World) 030 sports suspension (about$2KUSD installed) 2. Exhaust upgrade to PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust, about $1500USD) or aftermarket (Fabspeed/GHL...around $1000USD or less) 3. Short shifter (B&M...aboout $225USD or OEM...about $500USD). The exhaust and ss are easy DIY projects.
