  1. The search was helpful- but if Porsche doesn't sell them in 996's why is it an option on the Cayenne? Supposedly that is why I ordered the electric comfort package on my incoming pepper. Better have them!
  2. Anyone put a Homelink system in a 911 after the fact? Is it even an option from the factory? Don't remember it offered in the GT3, but there weren't many options for that car any way.
  3. Anyone have an aftermarket scan tool for Porsche- the Porsche factory one is a little too dear! I have a VAG-COM for my VW- Audi products which works great. I'd like something I could use on a '04 GT3 and an incoming Cayenne S...

    Thanks Loren

Just changed the oil today on the GT3 for the first time. A piece of cake- thanks for the DIY page Loren. Especially the oil filter- I remember changing the oil on my '95 993- took most of the afternoon removing all those panels to get to the filter on the tank, and the little one between the engine and transaxle! Luckily the oil filter tool was the same one I used on a 944 20 years ago!
  5. We have 4 Autozones- 2 said they didn't carry it or it didn't even show up in their computer. For the heck of it I called another one on the other side of town and they had 11 quarts- go figure. The guy at this store said the others were just too lazy to go look... :cursing:
  6. None of the local national chain stores here in flyover country have even heard of 0-40 and claim they can't get it. They act like it doesn't even exist though I point out it is IN my car now! Any ideas?
  7. My older son is a whiz with computers (his father did NOT pass that gene to him unfortunately)- if I had access to the Porsche system, I'd turn him loose!! If it worked he could probably finance his college education!
  8. Guess it's like everthing else for a Porsche- costs 10X more than the same thing for regular cars! Must be something unique though as the VAG-COM is an aftermarket deal not authorized by VW-Audi as they have their own in house system. No one has made one for Porsche other than the "official" system of which you speak. Don't you also have to buy upgrades for the PSTS which are also VERY $$$$? Also the Toureg can be modded with the VAG-COM while the Cayenne needs the PSTS unfortunately...
  9. It's surprising there isn't something like VAG-COM (which I use frequently on my VW-Audi products with much success) for Porsches. I'd think there would be a big market for it. Couldn't find anything like that for BMW's either...
  10. Now that you mention it, neither have I and got my car in October. I remember getting Christophorus back in 1971 when I got my first P car, and that was a 914! The last issue I saw at the dealer was a 40th anniversary issue about the 911. Maybe it's not a freebie anymore for purchasers...
  11. What do you expect? That is a Firebird isn't it?? They probably thought that was a great way to do it, especially after a 6 pack of Bud... while watching a NASCAR race...

    Oil Temp Gauge?

Anyone thought of putting in an oil temp gauge? Maybe I'm spoiled from my air-cooled days but in addition to the water temp, which never seems to stray very far from 180, I'd like to know my oil temp. Anyone put one in- I'm wondering where to put it as well?
  13. Does anyone make computer software on the aftermarket for Porsches to do self diagnosis? I have VAG-COM from Ross-Tech I use on my VW- Audi cars that works great, but I've never seen it for Porsches, or BMW's for that matter.

    Tie down your GT3

You could always do what a friend of mine did- paid a guy to trailer a pristine 356 Cab back from Phoenix to Des Moines for him a few years ago. When he got home and went to take it off the trailer, the guy had just driven it up on the trailer and put on the parking brake!!! And he made it all the way from Phoenix to DM with no problems. Talk about luck... Couldn't you run the tie-downs around the half-shafts in the back and the lower suspension arms in the front?
  15. Jim, with that stuff installed, you should take it out to that Nevada "race" on the open highway. To run the higher speed classes you need a bar and belts- that sounds like it would be a blast, and a lot safer than the back roads in Wisconsin on the way to Road AMerica! And a lot easier on your driver's license. As far I know, I don't think there is another GT3 in Iowa but who knows. I did get GT 3 for a plete though...
  16. Jim You're going to weld on that brand new shiny white GT3??? Any other GT3's around Milwaukee??
  17. Could this be reprogrammed just like a chip reprograms the throttle maps, etc?
  18. You mean I can go to my dealer next spring when the snow melts and ask for an alignment (car will still have less than 2K miles on it as I won't drive it much in the winter) and Porsche will pick up the tab??
  19. Trying to adjust the Xenons on my GT3 to raise the low beams. I can't see into the hole in the fender even with a light well enough to know if it is an allen or phillips or what and I don't want to strip something. I know I want to turn it counterclockwise according to the manual. Anyone successful doing this? (Interesting that to do the same thing on my son's Audi TT we used the VAG-COM computer)
  20. Have only 800 miles on mine so far but have noticed the same thing- not objectionable just noticeable. As it gets colder here though I'm sure the tires aren't sticking as well when it's under 50 degrees F. I noticed last winter the few times I drove my E46 M3 on cold but clear roads it was a handfull. Those tires need some temp!
