  1. For the 996, I do agree the lowers cannot likely be removed without damaging them. The uppers, however, can.
  2. I did this. my post on rennlist. The pictures are gone, I can send them to you if you like. This information is based on my '01, I did this in late '02/early '03. Some things may have changed. The pictures are gone, if you are interested, I can hook you up. The basic gist of it is: If you want to use the stock controllers, you should use the sock elements. The elements are not embedded in the foam. The heating element for the lower seat is sold as a stick on. It has to be cut in half for the two lower GT3 seat cushions. This is not hard. The upper element is sold attached to the seat cushion. It can be liberated with a hair dryer. Contact me if you want more details. BTW, these are GREAT on a late fall or early spring track day, when the windows must be down!
  3. Maybe BruceM can shed some light for you. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10953
  4. The problem is the harder you make them to steal, the more damage they will do. If they give up and leave the lights, it will likely be too late.
  5. Yes, I believe that is the variocam actuator. Here is the cam position sensor:
  6. Yes, you do have the wrong part. The cam position sensor is on the head itself (you are pointing at the valve cover), on top, almost directly above the part you are looking at. I'll try to dig up a picture when I get home this evening. Manwhile, anone else who wants to chime in (1999Porsche911) please feel free.
  7. No, Bank 1 is on the driver's side, at the front of the engine, the end nearest the transmission. I have only seen it with the engine out of the car. If you have access to it, the only thing I can think of to mention is don't re-use the O-ring. I really don't think you can get at it with the engine in the car, though. getting to the driver side one is easy! take out the rear fender liner and it is right there! Now the passenger side one is a PAIN! even the o-ring is a pain to get at!! :cursing: Wow. How different is your car than mine? I have no frnder liner back there, just sheet metal. I can see the cam position sensor, or at least the things around it. No way I would be able to reach it. You are not confusing it with the actuator for the variocam, which is right there, are you?
  8. No, Bank 1 is on the driver's side, at the front of the engine, the end nearest the transmission. I have only seen it with the engine out of the car. 9. You are absolutely right, I was dyslexic. The bad news is that the Bank 1 sensor is the one on the front of the engine, and I don't think it's very easy to get to.
  10. The Bank 1 cam position sensor is at the rear of the head (car rear, most accessible), but I haven't seen how bad it looks when the engine is in the car. The other bank's is at the front of the engine.
  11. It doesn't appear that 3.6L X51 cars do either, but I'm still trying to confirm that. That might help me come up with parts that fit. Edit: 3.6L cars don't have this cooler.
  12. Oh, there is a fuel cooler alright. 996-573-069-01. It is mounted to the ac compressor suction and is located under the intake. It's shown here with the wrong pipes.
  13. Due to a recent modification to my car, the fuel cooler will not be going back in. Clearance issues. How important is the fuel cooler and what are the ramifications of running without it?
  14. I'm not getting any codes. I am asking a question about what the sensor does, what the ECUs do with that information, and how the car would react with just one. I think your response and Loren's answer my question. Thanks.
  15. Thanks, Loren. Do you think there is any way to prevent the CEL? Would the variocam work without the sensor?
  16. Thanks. I know how many there are. My question is what happens if one goes missing.
  17. Would a 3.4L engine run with only one cam position sensor? Are both needed or is one redundant?
  18. Your humble opinion is probably right, but they do put it on the GT3 for a reason. I already have the third radiator, thank you!
  19. Not so's I notice. I thought I saw a post somewhere that said it could be done. The transmission is out of my car for other reasons rights now. I'm just thinking about anything I can do while it is out.
  20. Will the GT3 transmission cooler fit the transmission on a 2001 C2 6 speed? Has anyone done this? What parts are required?
  21. Does anybody have any recommendations as to which scale manufacturer is best? So far I've only looked at scales by Longacre and Intercomp. Any info or advice would be appreciated.
  22. I think you should do a season of DE's to blend them in! :)
