  1. If the IMS bearing was giving out and the IMS was wobbling -- it can damage the far end near the oil pump -- you really can't do anything to inspect

    that short of tearing it down.

    If the debris is coming from your rod bearings -- there isn't a way to inspect without tear down.
    If the debris is coming from chains -- then you might be able to inspect with a boroscope. Fixing will likely be a tear down.

    One can argue if you can source an engine without having to pay a core charge -- then drive this one till it breaks -- then buy a new to you engine.

    You are right tho -- you cannot sell it as "healthy" until you can prove over multiple oil changes -- there is no metal (which looking at your IMS/drain plug)

    is not likely to happen.

    You're not going to be any worse off.

    If you don't care about damaging this engine further -- you can run it for a few hundred miles and then check the oil plug and filter.

    Heck you could source yourself an engine -- prepare it and then swap it out.

    Then tear this one down, rebuild it, and recoup some of your costs.

    nothing is pretty I fear -- but you have options.

  2. If the CPS is monitored while running -- AND it is the cause of the non-started -- I would think you would get engine running issues.

    In my experience, when the CPS has gone south -- it tends to lead to starting issues only. Typically hot start issues.

    NOTE: I'm a shade tree Boxster mechanic at best -- but I have seen 2 CPS go out on two different cars.

    Neither exhibited running issues -- just eventually failure to start.

    That is why I'm not convinced that is is continually monitored but I have no real evidence.

  3. Got a new to me -- 20K mile 2008 CTT.

    So far so good.....

    However I have this very annoying drivers side creak. Left hip side.

    I'm not a little guy -- but not a big one either 6' 185# -- No idea of the PO.

    I've had it about 2 months now and for the last 3-4 weeks the drivers side seat creaks and groans

    around the corners. Not track style turns, but simple everyday driving.

    Any pointers before I start getting to drastic measures.
