  1. I've got a great deal on a set of wheels, but i'm not sure if they'll fit correctly... Can someone help me out? Front 8,5x19 et 52 Rear 10x19 et 58 Front tyre 245x35x19 Rear tyre 275x30x19
  2. Here is the article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7843262.stm Every Porsche enthusiast and/or economic interested person should watch this documentary!
  3. My 98 Euro spec is built in Stuttgart aswell, and the paint looks like new.
  4. Probably yes. But what are the chances that both my keys go defective at the same time, just when i have replaced the batteries in the keys?.. Doesn't sound right...
  5. I have tried all of this myself, and remote locking/unlocking still doesn't work. At the moment i have given up, and just lock/unlock the car with the key... I'm thinking that it might be either my alarm box, or the fuse on my alarmbox (which is under the drivers seat)... But then, should the alarm work at all? A Porsche dealer wants like $300 for a new programmed key-head here.... Which is just insane. I won't pay that unless i know that it will work 100%, which i can't find out, since it's a 8 hours drive to the dealership...
  6. Are both of them Porsche specific tools, or are they used on other brands of cars also? Oh, and, does anyone know how i can reset the Tiptronic learning memory? I read on some VW forums that they had to put the key in the ignition and press and hold the gas pedal down for 8 seconds for the tiptronic transmission to reset the learning it has saved.
  7. Yep, our roads aren't straight forward. Consider all our roads to be what you look at old backcountry roads like, lots of twists and turns with mountains and rivers flowing all over the place... Very fun in the summer (takes only 4-5 hours then, if you speed alot, our speedlimit is 80km/h here, which is roughly around 55mph i guess?) But during the winter it's a different story, snowy roads and ice all over the place... Not fun. Especially not with a Boxster without TC :) Yep i have considered changing the ATF and filter. But if the solenoids are bad aswell (very common on this ZF Tiptronic transmission apparently, especially on VW's, and since it's the same transmission...) i might aswell change them while i'm at it. For all i know it might just be a low ATF oil level. Is there a easy way to check this without special equipment?
  8. How can i read out the tiptronic fault memory? and shouldn't the CEL light up if/when the tiptronic logs a failure? I have a generic CEL reader, but it doesn't read Porsche specific codes. And the nearest Porsche service center is like 40 miles away and takes like 8 hours to drive to... So that's out of the question.
  9. Hi My '98 Boxster 2.5 has a Tiptronic gearbox and the car has 77000 miles on the clock. During the last 3000 miles approximately my car has been starting to downshift very hard (as if you where to drop the clutch totally on a manual) when i have the tiptronic in manual mode, this happens most when i downshift from 4th to 3rd gear. But also in other gears. It does not always happen, but it happens more and more often. This can't be healthy for the car, because the entire car gets a serious jerk when this happen, and i'm thinking that the rear driveline/axle's and so on will take damage from this over time. It's also dangerous when it happens on wet/icy roads in turns for example, since the rear wheels will "lock up" when this happens and the rear will come out. In auto-mode the car shifts mostly as it should, but i think the shifts have become more rough lately than they were when i got the car. The gearbox does not slip at all, and works as it should. I have never experienced any CEL/fault codes either. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Could it be too little ATF oil? or could it be fixed by just doing a ATF oil and filter change? I have searched on google about this and got some VW articles that explained that this could be caused by the tiptronic's valve cover and/or the solenoids in the transmission aswell... Please help me out here, as i'm kinda scared to drive the car as it is now, because if the transmission gets broken, well... then i get broke aswell :|
  10. I've had the same problem (especially during our unstable winter temperatures that fluctuate alot) and a small can of gas condensation remover (i have no idea what the product might be named where you are) fixed it. I usually fill one of these small bottles in my gasoline tank at every 3-4 fillups just to be sure. Without it my engine sometimes does not run properly when it is cold, and it has also misfired once. So get yourself a small bottle of gas moisture remover or whatever it is named where you are and pour it in the tank :)
  11. But if that's the case, the lights on the key should'nt work as normal should they? I bought Varta batteries (dunno if they are a big brand in the US, but they are in Europe).
  12. Hmm, didnt quite understand this. So basically i have to insert the battery the wrong way, wait ten seconds, slide it around (which means turning it around in the battery holder while it is inserted the wrong way?), remove the battery, insert the battery the wrong way again, wait 3 seconds and remove it again and insert it the correct way?
  13. Yep i changed batteries in both keys. And both keys worked before i changed the batteries. But the batteries was about 1 year old so i thought i might aswell change them because i had to get like right by the car to have the remote locking/unlocking to work. But after i changed the batteries one of the keys didnt work at all, and one barely worked for a while... They both blink red when i press them, so there is power... Weird. Do i have to reprogram the keys or something? Or could it be my alarm box that is faulty? I've had some leaks but i have covered up the alarm box with a few ziplock bags and ducktape so no water at all should come in to the alarmbox. And anyway i think it's weird that it should happen just when i changed batteries on the keys...
  14. As the topic says, i changed the batteries in both of my remote keys at the same time. One of the keys didn't work at all after this, and one stopped working after a month or so. Any ideas?
  15. Thanks, many good points here. I need to get them checked out. The problem is that it's winter here, and i do mean winter, we've had like 50-60 cm's of snow the last three days alone! And i don't have a garage. And i need the car for work every day. I guess i'll just wait until spring or if i find a garage that i can use for some days. And even still i need to dry out the carpet that is soaked, which is THICK...
  16. Well i've replaced the drain trays and the door seals... Still leaking. I have no idea where to start. My "Black box" is probably messed up because of this now too. I noticed suddenly after i locked the car that the passenger window had gone down in "top down" position... During the winter, while parking at a roadside parking! not good... And my central locking/alarm stopped working a while ago. I have to lock the car with the key now (triple turn to the right = one beep, unlock = two beeps). None of my remote keys will work. Suspiciously enough they started to not want to work right after i changed the batteries in the remote keys... I've had several months of soaked carpet now... Not good i guess. Any ideas? Anyone?
  17. Well i went and bought that OBD-II unit and got the errorcode. It was error P0303 which means Misfire detected on cylinder 3. Considering that it was extremely wet on the roads when the error popped up, i guess i might have some faulty sparkplug wires or broken coil covers or something similar. I erased the code and drove like 10 miles after and the error has not comed back yet. I could just be a worn sparkplug too i guess. The car runs just as it has always done now... I also poured some condensation-remover in my gas tank. I'll just see if the error comes back, and check my ignition wiring the next time i have the chance to have the car up on a lifter.
  18. Hello Last night i was out driving (it was very very moist, lots of rain/water and snow on the roads) and my Engine Check light suddenly started to blink a few times and then it stayed lit permanently. I noticed the car also got a little bit more "sluggish". My oil levels are fine, the engine temperature is fine, no leaks, my gas tank is almost full and the car starts fine. I have had some problems earlier with some rough idling when in Park (it's a TipTronic) and the engine has died out when idle 2-3 times in the last months. I have ignored this because the engine has been just fine otherwise. It's christmas time now, and i need to do alot of driving. I need to drive home to my family (4-5 hours drive) for xmas eve and such, and i need to know if i can use the Boxster or not. The car is a german 1997 Boxster 2.5 Tiptronic. I have been looking at OBDII Scanners, and i called a local guy here that sells them for a decent price so i can go and pick one up now. But he was not sure if the OBDII Scanner he sold would work on the Boxster. The scanner is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD-II-OBD2...omotiveQ5fTools Does anyone know if that OBDII Scanner works on the Boxster?
  19. Hi there. I've got a really nice offer on a set of 993 Turbo wheels that i am considering purchasing, but i need to know if they will fit on my 98 Boxster 2.5 before i buy them (they need to be shipped, i cannot test them on the car first). The specs on the wheels are: Rear: 11x18" ET52 Front: 8,5x18" ET46 They are not fitted with any tires, and i was considering using 265/35-18" in the rear and 225/40-18" in the front, or maybe 285/30-18" in the rear if that would fit... What about 245/40-18" in the front? Does anyone here know if these 993 turbo wheels will fit on my Boxster?
  20. Thanks for pointing that out. But i have checked that and the doorpanels are completely dry.
  21. Thank you so much for explaining and for the photo! Yes that is what i used silicone and ductape on. I talked to Autotuning today (Porsche/RUF authorized service shop here in norway) and they also told me to check under the convertible top. I guess i just have to order these new, they wheren't any expensive, just a pain to put them in. Even if there wherent any holes they said that after many years the thing could start deteriorating/molding and cause leaks anyway and they had exchanged many of these and it was the most usual reason for leaks. The drain tubes... Are they difficult to replace? Sounds like it... They are probably cheap aswell, so ordering them and just changing them at the same time might be a smart thing to do. Does anyone know the part # for the drain tubes?
  22. This night we had alot of rain here again, and there is definately more water inside the front drivers side floor now (behind the seat and in front of the seat). I took out the seat today and put the alarm unit in three zip-lock bags, all three sealed with lots and lots of ductape, so i guess that should keep the alarm unit dry. The weird thing though, is that the compartment with the alarm unit was totally dry, but behind and in front of the alarm unit (where the carpet is) is totally soaked. My problem is that i have no idea where the water comes from. All my drainholes works perfectly (tested on dry concrete and poured water through them all). My top seems fine, no water comes in nowhere as i can see... not by the windows, not in the back, nowhere. But still there is water inside the car that has to come from somewhere! And since it is on the driverside it is not the AC unit/drainhole for the AC unit that is clogged. Does anyone have any idea? Where is this so called Foam Liner Drain Tray that i am trying to look for? What does it look like, and where in the top is it? Is it the "carpet looking" thing that sits between the bottom of the top and the clamshell? That looks kind of like a raincoat when the top is up that goes around the back of the top? My english isnt perfect so i might just be misunderstanding what the a foam liner drain tray is.
  23. Thanks for the reply. So apparently the previous owner replaced the original headlights with UK one's... That's not even approved here. I guess i gotta give him a call.
  24. They are halogen (regular 986/996 headlights).
  25. Yes, there are two adjustment screws for the lowbeam apparently. A = lateral adjustment B = vertical adjustment (and C for the fog lights) But i cannot find any instructions on how to change the dip from left to right (rhd to lhd that is).
