  1. are you positive the rattle is inside? rattles very often come from the door latch. a piece of duct tape on the U shaped piece towards the outside will help you eliminate that possibility.
  2. sorry to contracdict you but "both types" do not have xenon lights. Halogen bulbs produce light when current flows through a tungsten filament in a halogen gas atmosphere. the light in xenon lamps (HID) is produced by an electric arc (no physical filament) flowing through a xenon gas atmosphere. two completely different ways of producing light.

  4. i was thinking that but it's very difficult to trim the housing off of that cable since it seems to be metal reinforced. i tried with a utility knife but couldn't get through it.
  5. i just had a look at a friend's 2002 S who's top won't go down. only one side of the clam shell moves. so after lot's of diligent research right here, i found the two most common problems (broken ball joint and flexible drive cable failure). i could reach down the side of the soft top and feel that the ball joint was fine but getting to the cable by the motor was difficult. i'm wondering, how do you disconnect the clam shell so you can swivel it open? i looked at the "Conv top R&R" thread which says to put the top in the service position. but that's the problem, the clam shell doesn't move at all on the passenger side. i managed to slide my hands under the clam shell (carefully) and disconnect the cable all by feel. i found that the square drive part had been shorn off of the cable. but now it would be good to be able to open the clam shell so we can replace the cable. any help would be very much appreciated. thanks in advance.
  6. i bet those aren't lights but reflective strips that picked up the light from the flash.
  7. i'm pretty sure those bags are inflatable lumbar supports. you should be able to deflate them and put everything back together. for some reason the pump must just have kept going. did you keep your hand or elbow or something on the switch? i don't even know where the switch is since i've never seen them before but heard they were an option.
  8. simon, the key itself is not programmed. the car electronics are programmed to accept the key so it shouldn't be a problem for the dealer.

  10. eric, i think you're confusing parking (position) lights with fog lights. some cars have two fog lights. some have only one. seems to be a manufacturer choice.
  11. not ALL german cars have one and it is not the law. my bmw X5 has two as well as my other bmw's. many european cars have two.
  12. i totally agree. it's the first thing i noticed. they should make them less visible. i would be very interested in this top but not with those ugly stripes.
  13. is that the pulse sender at three o'clock?
  14. more differences are that the S has silver trim around the windshield and a center radiator hole in the front bumper. the S is only the 3.2 liter model made from MY 2000 onwards.
  15. you don't adjust the cover itself as it has to remain loose to allow deployment of the bag. although i've never done it, i think you have to move the airbag unit towards the front of the car to snug up the cover. email me and i'll send you a diagram. there are four bolts reachable from underneath.
