  1. I think the logic is that occupant may exit the car when the top is closing. At >10mph doors lock preventing occupant to exit and get head jammed by the top. Just a guess...
  2. This feature is really impresses my passenger. Not to mention sometimes you don't want to get back into the car to operate the top bc you are in the middle of a conversation with your passenger who is also out of the car.
  3. It needs to be conditioned when the water doesn't bead. For most, this is every 6-10 months depending on how much your top sees the sun and rain. The spray also repels dust and dirt. Wash it thoroughly with a top cleaner. I have hear normal car wash may not always be good for the top so I bought the Porsche top cleaner. At $8, it's cheaper than anything I've gotten from the dealer!
  4. One dealer? That must be why you are the lonely guy! Have some uphostery shop look at the wrinkle. Get a lint roller - it's a must have for a new looking top.
  5. Check fuses first. The fuse box in to the left of the driver on the footwell.
  6. BTW, anyway to remove the wrinkles? The protectant spray didn't help.
  7. I have that on my cab but it's just wrinkles and no real wear in fabric on mine. If you have war in fabric, it's probly something rubbing against the top when it's stored. Keep the top up more to keep it tight and see a different dealer / top specialist to for second opinion.
  8. Porsche wash is $8 a bottle and spray is $14. It's a little cheaper than Raggtop esp since you'll have to pay postage. Not a big savings but I actually prefer Porsche stuff as it's designed specifically for the fabric and approved. If you can post a pic of the stress mark, that would be easier to visualize. I don't think it's normal around the rear glass. I'd take the top to be looked at by another dealer or a convertible specialist. It could be wearing from the mechanism that folds on top of the glass when top is down. If so the outside of the top would show wear mark which you can avoid by putting a flannel or cotten towel on top of the glass b4 top is lowered completely. Do this when you drive the car for a long time with the top down.
  9. Porsche dealer sell a spray to protect the top from sun and water. If the top is dirty, buy a top wash from dealer also and use a soft brush. I use a lint roller to clean up the top when it's dry. If top isn't too dirty, rinse with stiff water when you wash the car. Never wash cab in auto car wash. Keep the top from sun and water exposure. I use a car cover if it has to be parked outside of a garage. Are those stress marks near the "C pillar"? That's normal if so. Keep the top up when it's parked for a few days or stored in winter. If your rear window is plastic, don't forget to condition it to avoid yellowing. Dealer sells that. Raggtop is also good. I just like Porsche's stuff as it's readily available at dealer and it's cheaper than Raggtop and works real well.
  10. You can find a used set of rear Pzero for $40-50 shipped on eBay. Wear out all 4 and replace the set. Of your choices, Toyo and Yoko are fine. Kumho Ecstas is crap, only the MX is decent but MX is bad in wet weather due to tread design.
  11. I think you probly took the corner a little too fast. Get the car fixed up and take it easy next time.
  12. They are leather covered on my 02 and I recently pull these off to change my silver interior door release. If yours if leather covered, you can't repaint it. These are too easily scratched to be painted IMO. You are better off with leather of CF (which still gets scratched but at least it is not as obvious as silver paint)
  13. If I were you, I'd get a 987 w a hardtop. When parked on public street or lots, put the hardtop on for extra safety. When parked in your own garage, leave the softop up and store the hardtop. With the hardtop, you will get a little rattle and noises and it's not as integrated in the back as a soft top. Softtop needs to be taken good care of (spray protectant from sun and water damage), cleaned with special shampoo and lint roller. It's not as durable so it's better not to leave the soft top in hot summer sun or freezing rain/snow. If you don't see any convertible by where you live, that's a good indication that you probly don't want one for either weather or vandalism reasons. The alternative is to use a car cover if you don't have an enclosed garage. Thieves probly won't mess with your car if they don't know it's a convertible and you have a cover on.
  14. Try different gas station. Mine did that before and I got 3/4 tank when it stopped pumping.
  15. It's the window probly. Try pushing the window to see if the rattle stops. If so, the door panel needs to be removed to tighten up the two bolts that holds the pwr window mechanism to the door.
  16. Keep in mind that the oil level only needs to be at the middle of the electronic gauge. Oil consumption of new engine is OK. The factory fill 0-40w is pretty lightweight. If after breakin you are still burning oil, it may be due to bad breakin or engine sealing.
  17. Leaky injectors? How is your idle? Compression done on engine may be needed. Are you losing oil between oil changes? Are you plugs over 30k? If so, change them.
  18. Basslink is about 1'x1 and 6-8" thick' that is self amplified. Crutchfield and all stereo shops sell them. The sound is better than bazooka (crap) and it's more compact. I don't have a 986 but you can install this behind the seats (I think there is a little room there)
  19. If you ever get a bulls eye, repair it immediately so the you don't get a crack creeping up. Resin can fill in the cavity and concel the hole very well to a point that it's barely noticiable. I got my repair kit at auto supply store and it takes just 10-15min to use. Results are excellent.
  20. Does it actually fit in? Bose uses lower Ohm resistance in its speakers. See if the amp's resistance is consistent with the Bose. It should be okay. Do you know how to wire the amp to speaker? Sounds like the plug has a lot of pins. Alternatively, the Infiniti basslink is good and more compact. it's also self amplified.
  21. It's hitting some sort of electronic cut off. Most likely, it's an electronic malfunction of the ECU. If it happens again, have it swapped or reflashed.
  22. Did you guys use Porsche windshield replacement or generic? I was told that generic may cause poor radio reception
