  1. All right, so here is the deal. I talked with my father an hour or two ago, and supposedly the box right behind the radio had a cat5 telephone port. So, it looks like it was some sort of telephone/communication system. Not really sure how accurate this is, but my father's assumption is that it was some sort of after-market addition, possibly even from porsche that was added in after the fact, not stock. He also assumed that whoever had added it bought a newer model and took out the hookups and placed those in the newer model which already had a navigation system and everything which had the appropriate hardware already and didn't need the after-market additions. With this additional stuff plugged in, it was pulling 200 mA, and would completely drain the vehicle in less than a week. He pulled this junk out and now it drops down to 13 mA after everything "goes to sleep". According to his mechanic data (alldata), a 25 mA draw will completely drain a battery in 30.5 days. 25 or less draw is considered acceptable, so it looks like my problem is solved. Thanks for all the info and help guys!
  2. Yep, that was exactly what I was looking for Loren, thanks! Also, after removing the radio, we noticed a little box behind the radio which is connected to some kind of module right above the fuse box and they are connected together with a little co-ax cable. Also, there are 2 wires spliced into the radio wires and they go to the module right above the fuse box. there is also a relay right before the module above the fuse box. I know that isn't a very good description and I do not have any pictures, but does this sound correct or familliar? Is this something that would have come standard or was it something added in after the fact? Any ideas what it could be?
  3. I was having issues with my battery, there was a short somewhere causing the battery to drain. My dad was able to determine that the short was in the radio, and more specifically, the actual radio and not the cd changer. He currently has the radio fuse taken out, and by doing this, the short is gone and the battery is no longer draining. Does anyone know if there is anything else connected to the radio fuse? In some cars other things will be connected, for example the cigarette ligher or something of that nature. Any info is appreciated! Thanks! - Michael
  4. I know several people have said that they think it's dumb to street race and you should just ignore the other people, but I think it's fine every once in a while. Heck, sure it could be dangerous driving fast and having a little fun, but just driving down the highway at the speed limit, you never know who else is out there. Someone could pull out right in front of you, someone could run into you. The world is dangerous even when you are following every law and doing everything as safely as possibly. I would however recommend you stay within your level of comfort and skill. No reason to drive extra fast if you know you will not be able to handle the car. Also, it's not smart to drive balls to the wall every single time you sit behind the wheel, I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely don't have enough money to keep the entire state patrol in business. But, I believe it's all right every once in a while, and heck, even if you lose, who cares. Even if your foot was as far down as possible, you have a porsche, you can just lie and tell them you still had plenty of room between the pedal and the floor and you were just taking it easy on them since they have an inferior car :P @ docdavid: I'm sure you weren't trying to come across mean or judgmental, but your last comment about another message board being set up much better than this one was a little over the line in my opinion. I went to that board just to check it out, and I don't really understand what you mean. First, it's a forum, you have categories and sub-categories and posts. As far as the actual design of the sites, like I said, it's a forum and they look fairly similar. As far as the personalizations and different parts, color scheme and site header, I feel as if RennTech has the nicer site. I did not like the color scheme on the other board, not sure what it is, but it just looks sort of cheap to me. I love the setup of this board, and I think the color choice is a wonderful one, everything goes together well and flows. Like I said though, I don't think you meant anything harsh or brash by it, maybe just the wrong choice of words.
  5. Hello there! My 2004 Box didn't come with the mesh deflector either..... but I have the clear screen plastic windscreen between the seats. May I ask where I can get these two mesh ones from? I tried to search ebay and the net but couldn't find..... what term should I use, or what part numbers are they? Anyone have a link? Thankyou!! I've searched around the internet. I found some on Suncoast Porsche for $100 each. And the cheapest I have found is through Sunset Imports which is linked to through this site. They quoted each deflector for $94.30. Every once in a while, you can find them on E-Bay. whall gave the part numbers, although I'm showing a different part number for the left one, 583 instead of 585. 986 561 584 00 - Right 986 561 583 00 - Left If anyone has any extras, let us know, I'm sure me or yellowlemon would probably be willing to take them off your hands for you.
  6. I just wanted to share an idea I had for a mod/hack that I haven't seen on any of the forums or on anyone's personal page of mods. This mod/hack involves the screen/mesh wind deflectors placed in the rollbar behind the driver's and passenger's seats. I originally planned on doing this to my car, but I do not have the deflectors and I figured they would be a pretty cheap part to replace, but the only price I have seen so far is $100 each. I still need to contact Sunset and see what kind of prices they quote me, but that is besides the point. My idea was to buy some Porsche logo/crests (2 to be exact) and attach 1 to the back of each deflector around the center of it. That way when you have your top down, people wouldn't just see the plain black mesh deflector, but they would see a porsche crest right in the middle of the deflector. Add a little bling and style to it. I attached a quick photoshop to give you an idea... If anyone attempts this or does this, let me know of your results, maybe I will eventually cough up the money for the deflectors...
  7. WOW! In the 30s? That is impressive in my opinion. I graduated last May and started my career at the beginning of June. In October, I bought a Boxster for my commuter vehicle. Living in Missouri, you never quite know what the weather will be, but from probably mid to late April until late September, I should get to drive her a majority of days and with the top down in the morning and evening. My commute is normally between one to one and a half hours each way and the most I have ever seen my Boxster get is around 24 MPG (US). Most occasions just driving around town with highway sprinkled in, it gets around 17 MPG (US). I put 93 Octane in mine from BP (supposedly with invigorate :P ) Mileages isn't quite as good as the other car I was driving, and the fuel is usually at least fifteen cents more per gallon, but the ride sure is worth it!
  8. Adjusting Hood Latch Mechanism Loren, Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Haven't been able to try it yet, but it looks like exactly what I was looking for. My car was just in the shop recently and the mechanic and body repair man both looked at the latch and were convinced there wasn't even a spring involved with the latch. Again, thanks! - Michael
  9. Also, when I close my front trunk, the hood never latched good. I always have to push down on it to get it fully latched. Is this common to others? Thanks!
  10. I was able to find this on Wheel Dynamics website. The company of the wheel is Race Inc. and the model of the wheel is RPK 065. Here is a link to their products page which have the RPK 065 as the first product as you scroll down. http://wheeldynamics.net/Wheels.html Hope this helps!
  11. Two questions which I haven't found anything through the search for. First, is there an alternate brand of oil filter that porsche sells under? Like GM is AC Delco and Dodge is Mopar and I think Ford is Motorcraft. If not, what brands would any of you recommend? Second, my front trunk, when I pop the hood, it doesn't seem to pop up much and I struggle to get my fingers underneath it to lift it up a little so I can unlatch it and open it. I originally thought it was missing a spring or something was broke, but it kind of looks like this is how it is designed. Is that how it is designed, or is there something wrong with my latch? Thanks!
  12. I have a 1999 boxster. I was wondering if anyone knew what the reference voltage was for the fuel tank pressure sensor? Thanks! Michael
  13. I bought a '99 boxster about 4 or 5 months ago. The "Check Engine" light has constantly been on for a couple months now. I have had the code read and reset a time or two and the code it is showing is P0455. I have searched the forums for the fault code and read the other threads that discuss this topic. Specifically, I am referring to the following post by Loren: P0455 Fuel Tank Ventilation System (Major Leak) - Below Limit Possible fault cause - Tank cap missing - Tank cap seal - Ventilation lines detached from EVAP canister - Ventilation line detached from tank - Ventilation line detached from fuel tank vent - Break in ventilation lines Here is where it gets strange and why I created a new thread. My dad is a mechanic. Today, he had it in the shop and he hooked a smoke machine up through the fuel line. He pumped smoke into it and did not see any smoke leaking from anywhere. Then, he thought he may have missed it leaking. So, then he changed from smoke to pressure. During the pressure test, he said it didn't lose any pressure. I showed this list to him of the possible causes, and he said the smoke test and pressure test ruled out all these possibilities. We are kind of lost as to what could possibly be wrong with it now. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any possibilities? Thanks!
  14. I thought about it, but I don't think they can repair it. The front and back plastic housing pieces are completely busted apart. Thanks though!
  15. I just bought a 99 Boxster with a CDR-220 in it. The faceplate is more or less destroyed, but I got it working. The display doesn't fully function and the buttons have random operation. I have been looking into a replacement faceplate, but have only found them on e-bay for amounts that seem ridiculous. All I want is the faceplate, and on e-bay the faceplates are just as expensive as the whole radio in most cases. I was wondering if anyone had an extra faceplate they would be willing to part with? If so, PM me, or reply. Thanks!
