  1. Oh, cool. I didn't know that Porsche continued to build Boxsters in Stuttgart while also sub-contracting out to the Finland plant. I thought all production of Boxsters were contracted to them. I was just curious more so than conserned because I too would not care where the vehicle was built. I just thought that maybe the 1997 Stuttgart Boxster's were rare since I thought their German production was eliminated shortly after the early MY97's.
  2. Are the early 986 Boxsters that were built in Stuttgart rare by any means? To my understanding, only the very early 1997 Boxsters were built in Stuttgart and all Boxsters after that have been built in Finland by another company that contracts through Porsche. So I'm assuming there's a very small number of the "Stuttgart Boxster's", but are they considered rare? :renntech:

  5. Oh, I don't know. Anything over 50F and clear is top down weather. Great heater in a Porsche. That is why God made sweatshirts. I did notice that the heater and the AC are fantastic in this car. The AC blows super cold and the heater get's real nice and toasty. I was surprised because my dad had two 944's and their climate control systems were terrible; as it seems to be with most German vehicles. I'm very pleased with this one though!
  6. The only thing I regret about the purchase of this car is buying it in November! It's too cold to be cruising with the top down! Months and months and months until prime convertible weather again... Bummer... :(
  7. Haha no way guy's. I don't race and I like to appreciate the cars for how the engineer's intended them to be. Just not my cup of tea to modify cars. :) It performs great for a stock car though so I'm very pleased with it! :clapping: Heck yeah I got the fast color! :drive:

  9. Thanks, I will try this myself and hope it's not what Loren prescribed! I have a 1997 BMW 328is as well...black on black, 128k miles and still going strong. Cheers, W. I bet! They're fantastic car's. I traded in my 328is with 112k miles and it still ran like it was new. Mine was white on tan with a 5-speed and the wood trim. I traded it in for a 1997 M3 (white on dove). :jump: Also a fantastic car. This is the stuff that I used: Im sure any brand would work though. It probably doesn't even have to be silicone based either. WD-40 would probably work well also.
  10. Mine did the same and I also had this problem on a 1997 BMW 328is that I used to have. On both vehicles I took some silcone lubricant spray and just sprayed around the upper clutch pedal area where all the bushings and what-not are. I would have to do this every month or so in my BMW, but I'm not sure about the Porsche since I've only had it for a couple of weeks. So far I've only heard the noise once in the Porsche since I sprayed it which was the day that I bought it so I think it helped. Maybe the dealership didn't even try to lubricate it and they're just trying to dupe you into buying expensive parts or paying for expensive labor. You should try to spray it yourself and see what happens.

  12. Hey guy's. Well I purchased a Boxster a couple of weeks ago and I'm just now uploading some pictures for you guy's. It's a 1997 Guards Red 2.5L 5-speed manual transmission on black interior. It's bone stock and has 33,XXX miles. Almost 34k now that I've been driving it so much. :thumbup: :drive: It's a fun little car and I got it at a good price. It's just going to be a weekend car so I might not keep it for very long. For now though I'm having a blast with it! Here are some pictures.

  15. I'm surprised. Almost every Boxster that I've seen, even the 987's, have had this issue.
  16. My convertible top is not setting into the guide channels properly when I close it on my 1997 Boxster. The bead overlaps the molding on both the driver and passenger side. I know this is a common problem with Boxsters as almost every Boxster I've seen has displayed this. I've noticed some members have mentioned tying a knot in the cables to tighten the slack so that the bead falls into the guide channel, but I can't find anymore information on how to do this. This is my first Boxster so I'm not very familiar with anything on it. Is there a DIY for this procedure? I looked around but couldn't find anything. Thanks guys!
  17. I like it just the way it is! My suggestion is to leave it stock, but it's your car and if you want to mod it then go for it! I'm new to the Boxster scene too so I'm not really sure what mods are out there. Your car looks great though. Congratulations!
  18. This is on a 1997 Boxster (2.5L) 5-speed manual transmission with 33k miles. After driving the car and then parking it and shutting the car off, I begin to hear a strange noise coming from around the gas tank nozzle and the passenger side front fender well. I'm not even sure how to desctibe the noise, but almost like a droaning/bubbling noise. After minutes of being puzzled I unscrewed the gas tank cap to let the vapors out and the noise stopped... I left it unscrewed for maybe about 1 minute then screwed it back on and the problem was gone. I'm at a complete loss, but does anybody know what this issue could be? Off the top of my head I thought maybe something with the fuel pump or fuel lines? Maybe a bad charcoal canister? Thanks for the help! *Update* I just took the car for a 15 minute jaunt around the neighborhoods. Got back home, parked it and no sound. I'm wondering if it's only on long drives.
  19. Yeah, well I did a search in the 986 forum for LSD Limited Slip Differential. I couldn't find the exact answer I wanted so I made a new post. I didn't know about the options page, but that still wouldn't have answered my question if Boxsters came with an LSD standard. Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!
  20. Really? Wow... I'm surprised! I would have thought all of the relativley newer Porsche models would have an LSD. Oh well. Still a great car! B)
  21. I did a search here on the forums but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Did the 986 Boxster come with an LSD as a standard feature? I'm in the market right now for a 986 Boxster so I was just wondering. I'm looking at a 1997 and a 1998 and a 1999 so I'm really wondering about those model years in perticular. I find it kind of hard to believe that a Porsche would not come with an LSD, but I just want to make sure. Thanks for the help! :renntech:
  22. Where exactly is this water coming from? Is it just water from somewhere in the car or is it from driving in the rain? Are pretty much all 1997-1999 Boxsters going to experience this problem? Is there anyone who has a 1997-1999 who hasn't had this problem?
