  1. Ok I think I should be able to view that with the durametric tool that I have, I will then have the IMS replaced right away, and hopefully the rails can wait or is it easier to do while doing IMS. The whole process sounds costly but it was and still is a great car. Sorry for so many questions, thanks Joe C.
  2. Thanks for the reply JFP in PA, he told me he has about 30 pieces like ones in the glove picture in this post, no bigger but mostly smaller in size and mostly brownish hard plastic. He will post pic tonight after work. I see from your pictures what these rails look like and where they are located. This is certainly not something I or he can do. This may be more important than the IMS to do first. Is this something that can wait a little bit or needs immediate attention. Thanks Joe
  3. I need to ask because my sons 2000 996 has about 30 small pieces of black and brown plastic just found at 44000 miles in the oil filter. Car run great no noise, planning on upgrading ims very soon, but is this related to ims or those plastic rails for the chains that i read about. thanks joe c.
  4. Maurice and everyone that spent the time to post instructions I can't thank you enough, I just finished putting in the regulator and everything works fine now. Had I not followed the advise and instructions it would have been a disaster I'm sure. The damaged regulator separated near the motor where a spring was compressed by two pieced of plastic, and like you said stretched the cable that caused my problem. Other than two coolant reservoirs that leaked since 2000 , this is the only problem I have experienced in those 8 years. Thanks to All Joe C.
  5. I just received the regulator, will attempt the install this weekend. I hope to update you with my success, if not I may need some more advice. Thanks for your help Joe C.
  6. Thanks Maurice, I'll start looking for that regulator. Any top choices where I might purchase one? Thanks Joe C.
  7. My drivers side window on my 2000 996 works fine but at times the door is hard to close. The window doesn't seem to drop as much on the drivers side as it does on the passenger side when opening up the door from either the outside or inside of the car. I also noticed that I can push the window down with very little force from my hand and the window will travel about a 1/2 in before coming to a full stop. I have searched previous posts on how to remove the panel and will do this if necessary, but is there a possibility that this is not a regulator problem and instead some adjustment that I can perform. If possible can this adjustment be made from the bottom of the door without removing the panel? Thanks for you help. Joe C.
  8. My 2000 996 has 26000 miles on the clock, but the last year has developed a strange problem. I have a problem starting the car only after refueling at the gas station, other wise it starts and runs great. After fueling I have to pump the gas pedal several times while cranking the engine before she fires up. I recently purchased durametric software to chase down the CEL that intermittently comes on. The CEL code is a P0440 "Fuel Tank Ventilation System" fault code 93. Has any one else experienced this problem and if so, how did you correct it. Thanks for any and all assistance. Joe C.
