  1. 2005 GT3 Vehicle/Transmission G96/90 Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Oil LS 75W-90 (http://www.mobiloil....e_75W-90LS.aspx) Is this gear oil sufficient for track application or are Limited Slip additives required? I am having trouble locating: Approved Manual Transmission Oils 000 043 204 20 Mobil (Mobilube PTX) - 20 liter container 000 043 204 19 Shell (Transaxle) - 20 liter container 999 917 546 00 Shell (Transaxle) - 1 liter container (Loren, Any other products to consider? 2. 2005 GT3 Vehicle/Transmission G96/90 Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Oil LS 75W-90 (http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Fully_Synthetic_Gear_Lube_75W-90LS.aspx) Is this gear oil sufficient for track application or are Limited Slip additives required? "Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required. For axles requiring the highest level of limited-slip performance, OEM specific LS additives can be added to this fluid." (Mobil1.com) Thanks, David
  3. Craig, Thanks for getting opinion of mechanic/driver friend; information is helpful. -David
  4. Hello! Before dismantling for visual inspection, I would like to quickly torque test the Limited Slip Differential(LSD) on a 996 2005 GT3. Can I rely on the following procedure to determine wear and tear prior to bench test and visual inspection?(Car has 28,000 miles) 1. Raise and remove rear left wheel. 2. Confirm gear box neutral, parking brake off, and remaining wheels blocked. 3. Set torque wrench to 5 NM then rotate left rear axle nut counter clock wise... slip? 4. Set torque wrench to 10 NM then rotate left rear axle nut counter clock wise... slip? 5. Set torque wrench to 15 NM then rotate left rear axle nut counter clock wise... slip? 6. ??? What torque is acceptable; Any other suggestions ??? Thanks.
  5. Hello, Any issues replacing front brake rotors with OEM and PAGID RS-29 Yellow Brake Pads? Part Numbers: Front Left Rotor: 997 351 409 90 Front Right Rotor: 997 351 410 90 Would like to leave rear brakes OEM, both pads and rotors, for repair/upgrade at later date (rear brake pads >50% with no rear rotor cracks). Thanks.
  6. I followed the above suggestion to bleed the cooling system of air and added daily until level stabilized. I also followed the advice of Scottsdale Porsche mechanics to just add distilled water for top off. I have added approximately 1.2 Liters of only distilled water and the coolant level has stabilized. My question is: have I diluted the protection properties of the anti-freeze beyond acceptable limits by just using 1.2L of distilled water?
  7. Here is a simple method to transit oil through the critical engine components prior to first engine after storage: Remove the fuel pump fuse found on Row C - Position 4 (25amp) then turn over the engine with the starter. Did you trickle charge the battery over the winter? If no, then I suggest trickle charging the battery prior to cranking the engine over. To get all 6 cylinders thru the 4 cycles takes 24 revs; I am not sure what the rpm of a starter is, so I ran the starter without the fuel pump fuse on two separate starting cycles. Each cycle for a 10 second period with a one minute rest between cycles. I think 30 seconds would be too long resulting in excessive starter heat and possible damage. (Loren may know what the time cranking limits of a starter are; I don't, so 10 seconds is way safe with a rest between cycles.) I just performed this procedure last week; it works. Regards, David
  8. Removing fuel pump fuse sounds good. In my documentation all I can find is a fuel relay: Row C - Position 4 (25amp) I don't think there is a fuel fuse. I try it, Thanks.
  9. Greetings. I am preparing my car for spring 2009: C4S Coupe 2004 (10,641 mls) I changed the oil before storage last October (2008) (Mobil 1 0-40 Syn) Zero winter starts. Trickle charged @ 1.5 Amps ("Smart" Charger) I would like to isolate the spark plugs from the firing sequence prior to starting the engine the first time after 5 month storage. Turning the engine over on battery power ensures oil transits through the critical engine components prior to first engine start; 24 revolutions puts all cylinders through each of the 4 cycles. What is an easy method of grounding/isolating the spark plugs during the ignition phase while the starter is turning the crank? Regards, David
