  1. These coil packs are actually cheaper than most of my other cars, Aren't they around $40-50ea ?
  2. found it, passenger rear. I just need to learn the keywords to search for... i ran out and checked, the harness connection came off the coil pack. I could have sworn that it clicked the 1st time. runs fine now.
  3. i replaced the plugs and cleaned up the coil packs. After i fired it back up it was running rough and the cel came on. It tells me that cylinder 3 is not firing correctly. Which is cylinder 3 so i can check that one?
  4. after i had things cleaned up, the part at the red arrow was disconnected and i kept throwing codes. When 1st assembling it, i must have been rushing. I took everything apart and made sure everything was connected. Once i found this was disconnected the codeswent away! I will have to look at replacing the aos this winter also.
  5. i am going to do the 60k service this winter along with flushing the coolant. While under the car i notice the lower radiator hose is more susceptable (sic) to road debris and is not as protected like most fwd cars. I know the hoses only cost about $20 each, but is this something i really need to replace? I have only ever replaced these when they leak, become bloated or the insides no longer resemble a hose. And does the cooling system on a 6 speed really take 5 gallons??? If so, back to the parts store. I purchased 2 gallons of peak 50/50 thinking it was enough and reading somewhere this is the proper coolant. The one reason i am changing the coolant at 60k is, the wifes' 4runner decided to make a strawberry milkshake from never changing the coolant at 120k. The coolant and trans fluid mixed to give me some minor problems.
  6. yeah, it does make you wonder with a lifetime product. One reason why i keep receipts for everything. Pedro, you have a great wesite and it has helped quite a few times
  7. my indy will do the job for about 8-900 w/o warranty
  8. I have searched and haven't found a definitive answer. When i go to rockauto, they list the bosch 7413 as the oe plug. Some people say the beru plug is oem. I want to run the proper plug for normal everyday use and if the bosch plug is the one, that's the one i want to buy. I am 90% sure it is a correct plug.
  9. i used a little paper in the one clip at the top, worked like a charm
  10. i wasn't sure how much oil was in the tubes since i found so much on the outside. There was oil laying on the inside of the tubes.
  11. thanks all for the info. after searching for the aos, others have ahd the same issue an i have. It doesn't seem terribly bad, but will need to be adddressed at some point in the future. Having mostly asian cars, this is an entirely different animal and will help me when i purchase a 996 or 997 in a few years.
  12. I did see the aos, i t looks like it sits next to the rear quarter panel all by itself. I had disconnected that pcv tube from the bigger air tube, so i think i know what you are talking about. I have not had any smoke or other issues with it as of yet. thanks for the info
  13. i decided to take a look at the motor for the 1st time after owning the car for 4 months. It took me 30 min to figure this out and i will never forget it again. When i got the access cover, or whatever it's called off, i found weeping oil around that tube area. I do all of my own maintenance but this is my 1st porsche so don't laugh too hard at my descriptions. there was an oil buildup around the hose clamps. When i removed the tubing, there is oil resting on the bottom. From the way it looks, there is a pcv type tube that feeds into these bigger ones. Is it normal to have this in there? if yes, then i'll leave it alone. If no, what do i do to remedy the situation before i messed with anything, i noticed that this hose that goes from the hydraulic reservoir was not attached to anything. Does it just lay there? I am in the process of checking now, so i may have it figured out later
  14. i just put on a set of sumitomo htr II and they seem to work very well.
  15. i will post them this week when i can scan them. the car didn't do this before i replaced the cv boots and tires. the rear is 265/35-18 and the fronts prob are 265/40-18, but i'll have to check. there was some damage from the po to the car. I beleive it was rear-ended with some damage in front and rear. i wasn't sure if i did something when i was under the car to make it this way or if the tread is the culprit. I will sell the tires if need be and get summer tires and not all season ones. I don't drive in the rain or snow.
  16. i posted this over on rennlist, but in case people don't go over there, i wanted to get other opinions in the past couple weeks i have replaced the cv boots, rr lower control arm and rear tires. I also had an alignment and state inspection performed. The alignment was off quite a bit in the rear and a little in the front. I purchased bridgestone re960 pole postions a couple weeks ago. The problem i am having is swaying. When i am driving on the highway at speed i need to keep a prettty steady grip on the wheel to prevent it. I notice when i am going around corners that i need to slow down to go thru them. If i don't and go too fast through them, the trac control system kicks in. Now i can drive thru these same turns faster in my 141k 99 es300 with snow tires. Can it really be the tires that are making it do this? It did not do it before and i am concerned. The alignment was performed at an indie mechanic who specializes in these cars. Please help
  17. i just had a pair of bridgestone re960 pole positions put on yesterday. I only paid $440 b/c of a screwup in another set i was going to buy. The only thing that alarmed me this morning was, the car seemed to sway more on the highway. I t made me nervous to hit 90. BUT it was 35 degrees out this morning and i don't know if these cars hate the cold weather or if it was b/c i just completed the cv boot service.
  18. called my indep. mech and he has never done these like most people. I ordered a used control arm from dc automotive in NC. I will never make this error again when disconnecting a ball joint.
  19. i was popping the ball joint out so i could swing out the hub, so i could remove the axle. I am replacing the cv boots. Replacing a ball joiont was not in the picture on this project. I have done many things in the past but never ball joints of all things
  20. i don't think so....... this mod actually helped to get the drivers side off in no time at all. BUT after removing the right side, I bent the threads on the ball joint........ I am assuming that i need to replace the entire control arm. depends on how much you bent them. i bent them on my rear control arm once, but not too bad. i used a small file to file away the two threads i bent very carefully, and managed to get the nut back on. i have since gotten a huge assortment of taps and dies because the filing was a little hit or miss. but study it - see what is bent, and see if you think you can remove a couple of threads - it is cheaper than the 200 - 300 control arm.

  22. i used a flap disc and made the mouth wider and thinned it out also, so i will have to see how it works when i get home
  23. I went to advance auto and the tool they have to rent is the same as the one i have from napa. I can't get the ball joint connected to the control arm seperated from the hub that is behind the rotor. I am getting a little stredd b/c i can't find a tool to get this finished.
  24. Dummmmb question do you have a illustration on how to use the tool please Here's a pic from my suspension R&R (<a href="http://gwl.rmsolo.org/hacks/suspension" target="_blank">http://gwl.rmsolo.org/hacks/suspension</a>): Just got back from NAPA and all they had was this tool....775-9096 Course mine is not black like in the picture. http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLM...Joint+Separator Did i get the right tool? Thx i tried this and it does not seem to work
