  1. I think that is the secondary pump and I beleive that one of the lines may contain a small amount of oil so you may check the connections for any leakage down onto the mount.
  2. I agree something smells hear  You have a PM...
  3. Update on DME swap. With my car at Porscha they tried to reprogram the Boxster DME to my 996 and it will "NOT" work, they did not know this until they dug deeper and it seems that once the car is programmed for the Boxster that info is PERMANTLEY BURNED TO THE DME and it will not recognize the car. They did say that it is possible if the DME is out of another 996, so I am on the prowl to find the proper computer and I am finally getting to use my AAA. It was not a total loss and they did have a new 997 GT3 to look at down there.
  4. You need at least the VIN from donor and your VIN. The key, alarm and DME must all match then have your local dealer program them, the car will need to be at there place to do this at least that is how it works here.
  5. Interesting - there is no switch in the pedal area on my car. Are you sure? If your Carrera has Cruise Control then you would have two switches on the brake pedal arm. I'm not 100% sure as everyone is telling me there should be a switch there ! But I have had a pretty good look without dismantling the dash and I cannot see one. The car does not have cruise control and I can see the location for that switch and the unused harness to connect. Anyone have a picture of where it is located ? If you can see where it should be mounted and the harness, then it sounds like the switch is missing just replace switch and go from there.
  6. Todd, I think that is a good idea I found your conversions interesting and fun. Will it work for all injectors? I installed all new (6) 42 LBS injectors with my set up vortech SC? Which controller did you use and what did you do with your old one? I would be interested. How did you tune it by dyno or by driving the car under load. I assume that you used a scanner for your error codes etc but does the controller come with software that monitors in real time, save data then can the controller be reprogrammed. Sorry for all the questions but you started it!
  7. Yes you are correct, all are matched immobilizer/DME and the key from the same car and all that is needed from the dealer is the VIN from the previous car and my car to make the adjusments. Have you ran a piggyback style chip for your mods, I am going to call GIAC about the map but am concerned this will cost allot if they send me a map then find out it is alittle off and in need of adjustment but the adjustment will cost XXXX dollars. If can shead light that would be helpful.
  8. Porscha charges $185 in my area, but that depends if everything works after re-programming. Seems some of there good techs leave and open there own shops, last time I was there asking about fuel pressure no one seemed to know and they had to ask around so I guess it's like a box of chocolates "ya never know what you're going to get".
  9. If in fact the the car is misfiring because of too much fuel, it is easy to reduce the amount of fuel the computer sends to the engine. Get yourself a $200 scanner so you can see what you are doing. Thanks for the input it has given me some direction here. It seems that programming the basic settings in the DME for my type car needs to be accomplished using Porsha. A lowcost scanner will not accomplish this task unless I am missing something hear and while the car is in there to have them put in a GIAC map and clear any error codes. I would like to know what scanner/software can be used in changing the fuel settings if this is how you do it. A scanner will not change the fuel settings, but will show you what they are doing. Modifying specific sensor inputs to the dme WILL modify the fuel settings to what is right. You have to know what the fuel is doing first. I would be surprised if a Boxter dme can be programmed to mirror the dme for your car. Might be cheaper to just buy a new one. But, keep us posted. According to Porscha yes just give them my VIN, the DME out of a Boxster is of same part Number that goes in my 996, everything needs to be matched key, alarm along with the DME I bought as a set just easier that way. I'll check out some scanners but it would be fun to be able make adjustments without the large expense of programming tool. I'll keep ya posted and thanks,

  11. Sorry must have confused you. Yes, the car does run and the only scanners I am using now are my eyes, ears and nose... old school ya know  The problem is that it has a boxster DME and EVO does not reprogram for the 996 settings that it needs to be done at Porscha, so I figured that since I was towing it down there that they could at least put in a map that made the car run better since they (Porscha) do not have a dyno. Interesting point regarding the GIAC, if GIAC would sell me the map maybe I could have porscha install it as a base so the car is drivable. Now how close do you think you could tune your car without the dyno? Using a scanner and what type would you suggest? Hope this is clearer. :lightbulb:
  12. What scanner are you reffering to? My car is at my home and am unable to apply any load, I would be taking (Towing) it to porscha for reprogrmming and they do not have a dyno or tech knowledge to accomplish the task. That is why I was wondering if it was possible for them to install the engine mapping for the turbo which I would think would be close to my setup, But you are right I wish I had the tester and dyno. It would be nice to drive it to the tuner for the proper tune-up after porscha.
  13. I need to have my 2000 996 manual trans, DME reprogrammed to my car and I was thinking if it was possible to have them (Porscha) program in the engine specs for a Turbo along with the stock 996 settings for alarm, doors etc. At presant I am running 42 LBS injectors with my Supercharger which should be producing 6 LBS boost and was wondering how far off the Turbo engine settings maybe. This would be temporary before having it properly tuned. At present it runs badly like it is missing couple of cyls, but then it has the DME settings for a Boxster standard model.
  14. Correct you are, I locked the car but it did not lock the gas door.
  15. I was hoping to just pull the fuel relay to keep it from starting and using the key to crank, I do need to get oil to the engine and SC prior to engine start it has been sitting for over a year. I'm guessing hear but none of my fuses have burned since I put power to the car so I am assuming that it is ok to install computers. This is embarrasing but here goes, how do you open the gas filler door I do not see any pull handle anywhere I need to test for water in the gas tank or should say how much there is. If the doors are unlocked, the gas door should just pivot open when pressed on the part towards the front. That is, unless not having the alarm system hooked up defaults to locking it. Maybe Loren knows for sure. Thanks, I can get to the gas cap and it is not tyed in evidently, My wife suggested that but I qwickly dismissed it >I'm not going to live that one down anytime soon! :notworthy:

  17. It is a project car / insurance auction and I recieved missing the computers and other parts which I am reinstalling. I do want to find out how many things I can get to work without putting in the new computers and avoid burning them out. I would think that I could get the car to at least crank, the window switches are not getting power, overhead interior lights not working etc. I do not know if the computers need to be in for most of these things to work. So knowing what will work without computers is very helpful for my pretest operation.
  18. I have the computers out of the car dme/alarm/airbag but the dash odometer/rpm/time digital display lights stay on after I pull out the key all the idiot lights are off..I would not think that the computers would cause this, also can the car be turned over without the computers? Anyone have an idea where to start trouble shooting. I have the tech manual. As an added there is no power to the windows but if I jump power to the switches the window work. Logical guessing is allowed here.
  19. OK~! Jolly Jokers, I do have to watch what I take pictures of, The door sills are removed and being polished and I need to do some paint touch up work. ;) I heard you ask what am I using to polish with...You guessed it Mothers!
  20. Ok Finally lock assy is out and new one is in. :clapping: Called a locksmith and the key turned about 1/8 to the right, but not to the 1st detent which told him it was not the tumblers and lock was ok. Next day he showed up with a cutter and cut the lock in half mind you he was not sure what he was doing either but at this point I just wanted it out! Well with the cut part off we popped off the lock assy plate and saw that it was binding in there and could not free it up. Well next step when you cut it off there is nothing to grab on to, to turn. and the pin would still not depress. :cursing: Next and last resort <_< a heavy hammer and screw driver and beat the sh**t out of it as it goes into the steering column hitting away from the column direction and it still would not come all the way out but to my surprise I could see part of the pin so we drilled there tring to get part of the pin on the lock which worked and came out with a couple more big "waaaaaks" with a hammer.. Well I paid him took about 35 - 40 min and as he left said he probably won't be doing any more Porsches LOL.
  21. Can you give us some better pics than that? <_< I'll try but my camera is not the best. Do you know if it can be done? Sure it can be done because you already took some pics  Lock with handle no problem but removing the lock FROM the door handle assy is a different story. <_< Found out how called porsche and they said to remove the 2 nuts holding the cast inner case with lock from the outer assy with handle. Man just to stupid to live!
  22. Can you give us some better pics than that? <_< I'll try but my camera is not the best. Do you know if it can be done?
  23. I need to change out my door lock to fit my new key and someone said it was easy by removing a spring and pin but for the life of me I can not see how it removes from the handle assy. Anyone venture a guess. :cursing:
