  1. Yep--simple but effective. I guess the guys who designed it paid attention in physics class! :clapping:
  2. The locking plate comes with the B&M kit. The install charge was very reasonable.
  3. I had the B&M under car short shift kit installed in my '04 Carrera today, and really like it a lot. You can select 10%, 20% or 30% shift throw reduction--I went with 30%. It attaches between the gear cord and the transmission. The throw from 3rd to 4th, as an example, decreased from 5" stock to 3.5" with the B&M (30%). The shifts are much more defined, but not notchy (if that's a word). Shifting effort is increased a bit (due to physics), but it's a welcomed shifting tightness. Left to right travel is unchanged, so you won't accidentally downshift from 5th to 2nd. I got it from Brandywine Porsche for $175. As usual, Justin Lane was great. There was a mix up (apparently caused by mislabeling by B&M) and I originally got the wrong part, but Justin stepped up & got it fixed. For you bay area folks, I had it installed at Akkurat in Menlo Park http://www.akkuratpgi.com . I can't say enough about their professionalism and expertise...and they're great guys to boot! They recognized it was the wrong part, and worked with B&M, along with Justin, and had the correct part FedEx'd to them today. George Young is a great guy. Here's a pic of the gear cords attached to the transmission before installation: B&M short shifter kit: B&M with locking plate: Here's a comparison, with stock shift throws on top, and B&M on bottom. The throw reduction in 3rd gear is misleading, because neutral with the B&M is moved forward a bit. For those (like me) who wanted shorter shift throws, but were concerned with overly difficult shifting, I can say that this is the ticket. Now I just need to figure a way to lower my car without increasing ride harshness...
  4. Not exactly... With the dash switch, I believe the default mode is sport, but it automatically cuts to quiet mode between 30 & 40 mph (there's a hack to disable the quite mode between 30 & 40 mph). You can use the dash switch to put it in quiet mode at all speeds, but when you restart the car, it's back in sport mode, as above, with the 30 - 40 mph quiet mode.
  5. Here you go: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry3392 There's a good pic here (see item 12): http://ljgs.org/.ceemee/pcar/Scouser/diy/t.../index0003.HTML
  6. Looks like Porsche turned the certificate of authenticity program into a profit center. I paid $45 for my laminated '02 certificate (was $35 unlaminated). For my '04, it was $100, even with $10 PCA discount. ...and the free pylon I got with my '02 is now $85... :cursing:
  7. Sounds like a bad lifter. I had it on my '02 Carrera. They replaced the entire bank of lifters.
  8. Performance Products sells ding protection pads: http://www.performanceproducts.com/Product...roductid=103933
  9. AutoWeek article: http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?por...t_code=00682286
  10. A friend got a silver BMW 330Ci a while ago and it has all LED lights in the rear, and the silver/clear third brake light blends in nicely, so this caught my eye. Plus: "This LED brake light works 0,3 seconds faster than the original brake light, that is 8,4 Meters ( Two car lenghts ! ) more safeness when you drive 60 miles per hour. " It's all about safety... ;)
  11. Will this fit a '04 Carrera (something tells me no)? If not, is there one available for a Carrera? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2465481931
  12. I did this today on my '04 Carrera with xenons. The wire for the driver's side (black w/ white stripe) was the same as Kirby's instructions, but the wire for the passenger side was black w/ green stripe, not green w/ black stripe. I first used the green w/ black stripe and the side marker worked with the headlights on, but not with just the parking lights on (or maybe it was the other way around). It's a little tricky to tell the 2 wires apart--the black wire w/ green stripe is thicker than the green w/ black stripe.
  13. Thanks for the instructions. Are the wire colors the same for xenons? Also, for those of us less electrically inclined :lightbulb: , what parts do you need and where do you buy them?
  14. I have a '04 Carrera with stock US suspension & 18" Carrera wheels. What's the difference between that, M030, and X74 (ride height, stiffness, etc.)? I don't track my car, but wouldn't mind it being lower, to decrease the space between the tires and wheel openings, and at the same time don't want a super stiff/harsh ride.
  15. Look here: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...=&threadid=6853
  16. This site sells touch up paint (spray and felt tip applicator). I can't comment on the spray, but have used the felt tip applicator and the color match was good. http://www.paintscratch.com/
  17. With the full install (electronics & vacuum) the mufflers go to "quiet" mode between ~ 35 & 45 mph. There's a hack to undo this--try a search on PSE.
  18. I used Zymol for 15 years on my Porsches, but got tired of the difficult application/removal, and the poor durability. I switched to One Grand Blitz wax about a year ago, and like it a lot. Very easy application/removal--apply to entire car, then buff off--and lasts much than Zymol. http://www.carcareonline.com/detail.asp?product_id=10201
  19. I have the ones from Carnewal--very high quality. Although I've never seen the RUF ones in person, in pictures (from other cars, and on the Weissach website) they look identical except the logo. I heard (forget where) they are made by the same company. The $44 difference (check your math! :D ) doesn't seem worth it to me.
  20. Get some touch up paint from the dealer. Arctic silver is tricky to touch up, but if you use a tooth pick and use very light amounts, and a few coats, you should be fine. If you find the paint leaves a blob, you might want to try: http://www.langka.com/newsite/index2.html
  21. I got mine from Gert at carnewal.com--great guy to deal with. Same as RUF, but around $100 cheaper. There are cheaper brands out there, but IMHO these look by far the best. Takes about an hour to install. I like them a lot--they add a nice accent to my black interior.
  22. ...and Mercedes really tanked!
  23. The factory option includes the shifter and hand brake lever. It's aluminum look (painted to look like aluminum).
  24. I had a '99 Carrera, '02 Carrera, and now a '04 Carrera. Several times with my '04 Carrera, I turned the ignition and nothing happened, then I tried pushing the clutch down harder, and it turned over. It seems like they made the clutch switch more "demanding" than in past years, so you really need to push down hard on the clutch to be able to start the car. Could be what you're experiencing.
  25. Carlsen told me they had done a bunch of the CD changer installs on MOST cars. When I first called Carlsen they quoted me $350, and when I made the appointment, they said 3.5 hours (@$135/hour) but when I reminded them of the $350 they honored it. You got a deal with 2 hours. I don't think my car was at Carlsen for 5 hours, so I don't know what Neighbon is referring to.
