  1. Just got finished changing the sparks on my 2002 cab, personally I do not know how anyone can do this without taking the mufflers off. It took me about 5 minutes per side to drop the mufflers. The outer most plug on the passenger side was still challenging with the muffler off, with it on I do not see how it could be done. If you want to change the plugs with a minimum of cussing and fussing, drop the mufflers. Easy breazy
  2. Bill, Thanks, saw those, a while back someone had posted additional "additional" items to look at, I think they involved the cam/camchain/valve train. The tensioners etc.
  3. 2002 C2 Cab 59K I saw a few posts a while back and am having a hard time finding them. The listed things to look at during a 60k service, I believe they were cam chain items, tensioner etc. does any one know the posts or can someone point me to them? Just looking for extra stuff to look at when i do my 60K. Is there a top service called out? I live in Ventura and my top goes up and down quite a bit :)
  4. why would anyone want to put those on a porsche? a honda civic I can see, but a porsche?
  5. I live in Ventura and bought my 5/40 at Carquest. I used the Diesel oil.
  6. 2002 996 Cab I missed a downshift, went from 6th to 2nd doing about 80. The tires chirped and realizing the error I put it into 4th. Car seems fine, any idea how much damage I could have done or any thing to look out for? Car is great, replaced a pass side regulator and a coolant res. Thanks Renntech! thanks!
  7. there is a plastic stop at the bottom of each track that needs to be removed.
  8. I would recommend getting a new factory hood. $661 from Sunset Porsche. Use Sikkens paint and it will match fine. I "bent" the front fender on my 02 996 cab and with a new fender and matched paint, you cannot tell.
  9. Not a chance of it fitting without lowering the engine. Car is a 2002, maybe first gen 996 is easier. Lowering the engine is a breeze, beats spending 3 hrs bashing your knuckles.
  10. Just a little off topic, but still on engine mounts, I have a few questions I hope you could shed light on. I've read alot of old threads about busted mounts from jacking the car from the engine. It seems to me that from the design of the engine carrier and the mounts themselves, in normal circumstances the engine pulls down on the hydraulic filled mounts, and when jacked up, would put them under compression instead. How would one be able to bust the mount under compression? The casing on the top side looks extremely robust and should constrain the compression easily. It seems more likely an issue if the top mounting bolts of the mounting can take the weight of the car, pulling the engine mounting up from the engine bay area. I didn't hear any pop or other weird sound that would indicate a problem. Pretty straight forward. The engine moves quite a bit when you jack the car up though.
  11. I just got done with my 2002 C2 Cab. Not fun. Well not fun until Loren gives you the info. Ok folks, the only way you can change a CR on a 2002 is to lower the engine, both nuts have to come off and the engine has to go down about 3-4 inches. And then is is a snap.
  12. I love you Loren. Actually had to loosen both sides and then Robert's your Fathers brother.
  13. Hi Loren, not to be totally dense, but which one is the motor mount? The one in the back (rear of car) or the one that the suspension hangs on? I loosened the one on the back and nothing happened. Are there any gotchas? Thanks! this has been amazingly frustrating.
  14. I am in the middle of a wonderful coolant tank change out. 2002 991 C2 Cab How do you lower the engine? Impossible to change tank without doing so. What are the gotchas? Does the exhaust need to come off? Thanks!
  15. Well on the plus side I finally figured out why they put 18mm sockets in sets. Any one want a low mile 996 cab? This car is way too hard to work on, time for a Corvette
  16. Ok so I read the 996 C2 coolant tank replacement, however it is for a model year 99. Has anyone replaced a tank on a 2002 C2? I have worked on a lot of cars and I cannot figure out how to get the tank back in. There seems to be no way of fitting the tank back in without taking the upper bracket off, but then there seems to be no way of getting the upper bracket back on. The only way, and I repeat, ONLY way I can guess on how to get the tank back in is to lower the engine. How do you lower the engine? Where are the motor mounts? There are two in the back and there seems to be two that the rear suspension hangs on. The tank was just an absolute joy to get out, the lower fitting hits on the fuel injection rail. I wish I knew some German curse words as I sure could have used them. The little spring clamp on the lower hose had rotated and it was near impossible to get off. Please help.
  17. Tricia, let me know when you find out, we are looking for one for our toddler also!
  18. I just bought a 02 996 Cab with 40K, seal grey, supple leather, bose, aero kit, fan-freaking-tastic car, paid 29K.
