    I don't have a Durametric, but I did check with an Actron OBD2 scanner and it did not detect any codes.

    I have a 06 997 cabriolet, 6-speed ... the other night the car was bucking slightly under load, and seemed lethargic. Idles well, revs strongly when not in gear. Coincidentally, or not, the car was pretty low on gas (30 miles range) and exhibited the problem on the way to the gas station to fuel it up. However, the problem continued after the tank was full. The check engine light did not come on, so I assume it didn't throw any codes. Ideas?

    Where would you place jackstands on the front of a 99 C2? I need to change the wheel well liner and don't want to be under the factory jack. Vic

    I have a line on some 18" rims, can't tell if they will fit a narrowbody 996 ... 18X8 993 362 14 00 offset 40 18X10 993 621 36 01 offset 50 Are these for widebody cars? Vic

    My 99 C2's wheel well liner was damaged by some road debris ... how difficult is replacing it and any idea what the part runs? TIA Vic 99 C2 cab

    My understanding is the certified warranty covers about what the new car factory warranty covers. Anything that was damaged or is missing since the car was certified is not likely to be covered or replaced for free. Anything considered an "adjustment" is probably not going to be covered either, as the new car warranty usually has an "adjustment" period from the in-service date. That being said, dealers have a certain amount of "goodwill" they are allowed to dispense before getting approval from PCNA so it's always good to have a good working relationship with the service manager. Sounds like that's more of an issue for you than the certified warranty coverage. Vic 99 C2 cab

    Thanks, Loren ... vjd3@yahoo.com The car is a 99, so it's not under warranty, although it is a Porsche certified car, the dealer said adjustments are not covered. I doubt I have the new latches. Vic

    99 C2 cab ... hard top squeaks from the rear over every bump in the road. Can this be lubed somehow without removing the top completely? Or do I have to enlist a neighbor for the afternoon? Vic 99 C2 cab

    My 99 runs rough at idle too, but the dealer says it's not throwing any codes and it feels "normal" to them. Feels rough to me. Anything else to check here? Vic 99 C2 cab

    I would recommend getting a set of winter wheels; you can keep your eyes open for deals. I got a set of Porsche factory 17" twists with Dunlop Wintersports from a Porsche dealer on Ebay for $1325; brand new factory mounted set, still in the crate from Germany. If your 18s are in nice shape, you're better off not scraping them on the ice and bathing them in salt water. Plus, I believe you'll do (slightly) better with 17" than with 18". My C2 did very well in our Boston blizzard on the 17"s and WinterSports, as good as my girlfriend's Audi TT Quattro on Pirelli P6 all-seasons. Vic 99 C2

    I noticed tonight that my 6-speed 99 C2 cab has a whine in the gearbox. If the car is coasting, clutch pushed completely in, the gearbox will whine if the shifter is in first gear, or even pushed toward touching first gear. Second gear, third gear, etc., completely silent. The faster the car is rolling, the higher pitched the whine is, and it goes down to a low whine as you roll to a stop. Ran it by the Porsche dealer; their chief technician ran it around the parking lot. He can't remember noticing another 996 do this, but he's not sure. I know that my 993 didn't do it. If you can, next time you drive your 6-speed, get it rolling about 20mph or so in neutral, push in your clutch, and put it in first gear, and post whether you hear a whine or not. It's very noticeable. I want to know if this is a normal characteristic of a 996 6-speed or if I have some problem with my gearbox. Thanks for your assistance ... Vic 99 C2 cab
