  1. If I have to replace the cats what would be my most cost effective option? Has anyone replaced these recently?
  2. I'm on a long drive and CEL codes 1126, 1133 and 0430 are coming up on my 2000 S with 70K miles. I replaced one 02 sensor about two years ago and the other three this spring with Bosch units, along with a long list of other fixes (IMS upgrade, alternator, starter, clutch, flywheel, axle boots...pricey). Anyone have these before?
  3. Try 3236 or 3234 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST Tried: 3234 3236 3238 Becker gave me 6390 tried that and 6388 6392 Nada. Sitting waiting for wait mode again. Why did they make it an hour arghhhh.. Just tried3232 3290 Nothing yet. Back to wait mode Becker got back to me with a second code. You were close. 3237 By the way guys, don't spray Wurth ac cleaner into the vents directly above the radio. It will drip down and fry your radio. Luckily I found a radio from a dismantler cheap. Try jmagistro@verizon.net for 996 and 986 interior parts.

  6. hello y5046390 Btw, do not use wurt ac cleaner spray directly above the radio. Stick to the einzet z1 foam instead. The spray fries radios! I paid Becker for the code 6390 and it didn't work! oddly enough its the same last four digits of my serial #
  7. Well turns out the dealer was wrong.code doesn't work Anyone have the Becker contact info? Thanks.
  8. 5753 and 5751 did not work. Tried 5755 and 5759 no dice. Called several dealers and they all said either the magic number system was down or that Porsche was no longer allowing this to be accessed directly by the dealer. One dealer wanted me to come in for an appointment so that they could email Porsche and wait for a response and test it out. then it occured to dopey me to call the dealer who originally sold the car (in service records). Gave them the VIN# and they pulled the file. They said the code number is 0434.
  9. It seems like you get 3 chances before it goes into that wait for an hour mode. If you turn the radio off and on after your 2nd attempt after a 5 minute pause it will allow you another shot without having the long wait.
  10. Thanks my internet is down, I'm trying to do this on my cell phone. I guess I will wait the hour until I try the codes you suggest. Thanks.
  11. I am a goof ball. If it says wait does that mean I entered the right code? Cdr-220 4462 Y 5039107 24/99
  12. I decided to have it towed by AAA to the dealer in the event that it was something bigger but when the tow truck driver arrived he decided to try and jump start it. Sure enough it fires right up. He took me to the local autozone and I paid $87 for a new battery(Titanium something or other), didn't have time to wait for a recharge. The old battery was 5 years old so I decided to just spring for the new. I actually dropped off the car to have some paintwork done (bumper upgrade) directly across the street. Hope the battery was the issue. Sounds like I'm still due for a new starter, that squeal is becoming frequent (every 7th or 8th strart). Any suggestions? Should I take this to the stealership or buy my own rebuilt starter and have an indy replace it? p.s. Did however notice that the ignition had some play when I put the key in. Is this a sign of coming trouble. Sounds like allot of issues but this car has only needed one repair in 50K miles. (throttle body $300).
  13. Thanks, its times like these I wish I had more than one car!
  14. This is one of those deals that can only happen to me. Parked the car in the garage overnight. Got in the next morning and I noticed the key blade was still in the ignition and the dashboard and radio were still on. Somehow the key blade disconnected from the clicker and I hadn't noticed when I got out of the car! I pull the blade out the ignition with my hand and use my back up key to fire up the car. No problem. Moved it a few feet to rinse the top. Get back in the car and now the dang thing is freaking out. When I turn the key the dash lights up and radio comes on, top retracts (albeit slowly). When I turn the key all the way to with my foot down on the clutch the lights all start flashing on and off, the windows make some noise and I can hear the engine area making a loud click click click sound in sync with the flash flash flash of the dash board lights. Before this I was getting the ocassional squeal from the starter. My first thought its finally dead. I called my local dealer he wants me to tow it in and they are promising me a $350 battery replacement if that's all that wrong. I'd like to test that out for myself first. Any suggestions for a generic battery that I can purchase over the counter? Or do you think this sounds like the starter or alternator? Thanks.
  15. Driving along and I noticed some sprinkles of oil on my winshield presumably from the car in front of me. I turn on the wipers and the wiper light comes on. Pull over to a gas station and fill the wiper fluid tank. Get in the car and although I can hear the wiper jets working nothing is coming out and the wiper light comes on again. any ideas?
  16. is it possible to determine which 02 sensor has to be replaced from these CELs?
  17. Was about to look into replacing my 02 sensors from oxygensensors.com and later that day I get the following error codes P1276 (manuf. control. Fuel air metering) P0153 (slow response Bank 2 sensor 1) I can't find any info on 1276 at all. any assistance before I replace the parts would be appreciated! 2000 Boxster S 40K miles. p.s. does the Bentley manual have info on this. I ordered that thing months ago from Amazon and they keep delaying...
  18. I'd like a 2nd hand bra. If not I'll go for the clear bra. Why can't you do both? New Jersey
  19. Howdy, I'm looking for a Bra for my GT3 front bumper. Its the old GT3 with the standard 996 lights not the Turbo headlights. If you have a used one or know of a vendor please post or email me porscheoscar@yahoo.com. I'm also looking for a clear bra if you have any info. Thanks.
  20. I noticed the same thing last month. I was told it was a loose clamp on the wiper fluid hose. I also have a 2000 and apparently a new clamp was offered a while back but I only recently purchased my Boxster. It stoped leaking the next day.
  21. no soap on the top. When going to a hand car wash don't let them wash you window either, whehter it be glass or plastic. Wash the window with a chennile or microfiber towel yourself with a mild soap like Meguiars, but don't get any soap on the fabric top. make sure to rinse window first without the spray nozzle. Then moving left to right take a damp microfiber towel and remove any excess slowly. Proceed with the soapy chennile or microfiber towel. Finish with Plexus, its the best for the plastic window and headlights, by far. Also when going to any type car wash, keep a microfiber drying towel in your trunk and tell them to dry your car with your towel. The terry cloth towels, and old bath towels used at most car washes WILL MICRO MARR or SCRATCH YOUR PAINT. One car wash gave me hard time about this because some other customers noticed I was using my own towels and started asking questions. I told them Porsche has delicate paints or some other story. Nowadays I go to one of those coin operated car wash bays and bring my own soap, brushes and towels. No point in getting the dirt from the last guys SUV on my Porsche. For the top only spray it with a stiff stream of water. when it becomes soiled use Ragg topp (spray bottle)cleanser and an OXO feathertip brush to work in the cleanser. Rinse THOROUGHLY. Dislodging dust and dirt is important before the next step. Raggtop is the only cleanser endorsed by the manufacturer of the top (Hartz). Dab dry, don't wipe. Remove bird drops ASAP. I use these Sonus waffle weave towels for all detailing minus wax buffing. Next step: use a UV protectant. Ragg topp protectant is what I use. It crates a beading effect which repels dust from adhering to the fabric. You need to do this in garage or when its not windy. Tape off the window and bodywork and spray the protectant on with two coats waiting until completely dry between coats. In between washing try and find an Sunbrella cover that covers only the softop and windows. It will also protect your interior from fading dash and cracked leather. the products mentioned can be purchased here: www.autogeek.net www.autopia-carcare.com
  22. will the new 987 18" wheels work with the 986? 987 18" wheels I sent an email over to wheelenhancement.com for a possible trade in on my 2000 Boxster S wheels. I'll post their reply. Does anyone know these wheels? They look very sharp even without the side skirting. two piece
  23. there is a guy who make carbon fiber bicycle parts. send him an email. Perhaps you can convice him to start a Porsche parts section. carbonlord.com
