  1. I called them today and they were going to put in the generic PPG windshield. I wanted them to order the oem one. Won't be ready for another week. Hope insurance still covers it.

I just got a chip the other day and as a result, a 6 inch crack emerged from the chip. I called my p-dealer and was quoted $520 for oem glass and about $60 for the seals. My windshield does not have the rain sensor. The labor at the dealer is

a flat $188 bucks. I called a few auto glass places and was quoted $800 to $900

and the glass wasn't even oem. Since the crack hit me at a bad time(financially), I took it to a crack repair place. 30 minutes and $70 bucks later, the crack is barely visible and guaranteed not to grow. This will have to do for now until I can't

stand to see that hair line on the passenger side. :(

  2. Has anybody tried the Fabspeed 996 Catalytic converter bypass Pipes ???  I'm really tempted to get this but kinda scared if it's going to be as loud as the fabspeed muffler bypass.  Bought the muffler bypass a year ago and removed it the same day.  That darn thing was so loud that it sounds like a big boat on the road.  Please help !!!

    Thanks,

    Dice.

You should like the cat bypass, nothing can be as loud as the muffler bypass...

  3. I am new to the 996 world (and the Porsche world, for that matter) and would love a more aggressive sound out of my 1999 996.  I have been researching cold air intakes as a cheep alternative to installing a new exhaust (but w/o the power gains).

For those of you out there that have a cold air intake, or modified yours, does it really change the sound that much?  I am not too worried about spending the $225 (fabspeed) - I just would like a more aggressive sound if I do.  Also, anyone seen a difference using the BMC air filter along with it?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Adam

I have the Fabspeed and I love it. The sound had neglegible change but the throttle response was better.

  4. Yea guys, I am inquiring on the airbag light because I bought an aftermarket steering wheel.

I just thought maybe I can save some dough by not getting the PST2 reset. I have never taken

apart the cluster but have seen pics. I don't know if removing the bulb is even possible. And lastly, I would never even consider disabling the light and sell the car to an unsuspecting buyer.

  5. Does anyone know if I could just remove the lightbulb in the air bag light socket inside the cluster? A local P-car tuner wants $100 to turn the thing off. I am afraid the dealer might

charge more. A well known expert in this forum suggested that someone in the past have

used a resistor to simulate the air, but he couldn't remember the value of the resistor.

    Thanks for any input.

  6. I would have the wheel spin checked at a tire shop. It could be slightly bent. :)

    Hello,

My car is a 2000S with 23,000 miles on it and my 4 tires were changed when I bought the car at 17,000 miles. 18 inch Pirelli PZero.

The only way I can describe this noise is like a "wup wup wup" which gets faster as the vehicle speed increases.

It seems to be coming from the rear wheel. Also if I open my window I don't hear it as well as when the window is closed.

The noise gets a bit louder and the interval shortens when speed increases. It starts when I reach 30 mph, when I slow down below 30 mph it takes about 2 seconds for the noise to be less noticeable while the interval increases up to no noise. Also there is no vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal.

Besides the fact that it is speed dependent, whether I accelerate, turn, brake, etc. it does not get affected.

I did jack each rear wheel up and checked if there is any free play and no there is none. No rocks inside the tire treads. When I turn it by hand there is a slight grinding noise on both wheels but more noticeable on the left one as if the rotors are touching the pads.

The other thing that might not be related is I need to pull my handbrake pretty hard if I want to immobilize the car in a hill. Could the handbrake shoes be worn out and touch something? By the way I reinflated my tires recently as the pressure had fell way below normal tire pressure, but my tires do not look worn out at all.

What could be the possible issues?

Wheel bearings, CV joints, warped rotors, bad tire, etc.

Can I potentially make things worse by driving it?

Sorry with all those questions as I know it is very difficult to troubleshoot those issues this way. But I am just hoping somebody went through the exact same problem and has an answer. As I had to rebalance my wheel when a weight came off, I now know exactely how to diagnose the issue now.

Thank you in advance for your help.
