  1. Okay! Time for Update! Mechanic removed the engine and transmission and took the clutch apart. We didn't really see anything broken. Burnt spots, some rust, pilot bearing not moving freely, oil leak behind the flywheel seal. Slave Cylinder was replaced before taking down the engine/transmission because it wasn't engaging properly but that didn't fix the issue. So the total is going to cost me $1560. Labor: = 782 (9.2hrs x 85/hr) Slave Cylinder = 92 Brake Fluid = 7 Clutch Kit = 600 Flywheel Seal = 18 Pilot Bearing = 35 Power Steering Fluid = 11 Coolant = 15 See pictures!!!!!! :renntech:
  2. We had to get it towed. My mechanic checked the hydraulics, the shifter cables and the cylinders and those checked okay. So now he says he has to check the clutch. I am now depressed as I was not expecting this expense, not at this time of my life since Monday January 4th I have to go to court and sign the final divorce decree. Oh, well! I guess thats life. :(
  3. It has 25750 miles to be exact. I spoke to my local inde mechanic and he thinks it's the hydraulics. He is going to come to my house and take a look at it on Saturday. Very nice guy. He helped me out once before and didn't charge for his service even though I offered to pay him for his trouble. He is also the local PCA tech guru. I just hope its not the clutch. We'll find out on Saturday.
  4. About a month or so ago I found these bearing balls outside my 05C2S rear spoiler. See first pic. I thought some jealous person put them there back then. But now after reading all the posts about issues with these 05C2S and my gear not changing issue, I'm thinking these came from the engine compartment. I'll take my car to the mechanic this coming Monday to get the gears checked and I can ask him about these bearing balls then as well. But I just thought maybe some of you might be able to tell me where these bearing balls go? One ball has markings of two lines in the middle with a letter D like this ====D====D Three balls have markings of an I then three Os like this I O O O I O O O One ball has markings of two lines in the middle with a symbol that looks like @ with ai like this ====@ai====@ai Any thoughts? Maybe I'm just being paranoid! :jump:
  5. I messed up and drove my 05 997C2S too hard in the 1st & 2nd gear Saturday night. It was late at night and there wasn't any traffic. I took off from an intersection in 1st and changed to 2nd and then stopped at red light at the next intersection. Then I tried to change the gear to 1st and it wouldn't change. After 5-10 minutes trying shutting the car off and on several times, I couldn't get it to change. Luckily I was close to the house and the only way I could get in the 1st gear was to shut the car off and put it in 1st and then start the car and drive. But then it wouldn't downshift so i drove it in 1st for few hundred feet and parked it in the garage and went to sleep thinking that whatever it was would reset overnight. Lol! But it wasn't in my luck. Now when I press the clutch and try to change gears, it won't go in any gears. The clutch feels different too. My guess is that the clutch is gone! Could it be anything else other than the clutch? :renntech:
  6. Thank you for the responses. Mine is not a daily driver and every time I drive it (Friday and/or Saturday), its like I'm driving it for the 1st time. I am not drag racing or racing on the street. I'm just doing normal driving. No street racing for me. Too old for that. I have to live for myself and my five old daughter. I was afraid to take it above 4000 rpm in the 1st gear or the 2nd gear because of the engine noises in high rpm and the oil burning smell. I've heard that the oil burning smell is normal. But I'll definitely try taking it above 4000 rpm. Also, I have never driven it in the sport mode so I'll try that as well. Driver Education Course is on the to-do list.
  7. I have my 2005 997 C2S 6-Speed since June of this year. My last stick-shift was 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST back in 1997 and since then I've been driving Auto. The problem I have with my 997 is that when I take off from a full stop at a stop light, my car goes slow in 1st and 2nd and other cars even small cars beat me. I take off from 1st and take that to 20 mph and then I go to 2nd and take that to 40 mph and then to 3rd and once I'm in 3rd I'm good. I'm still learning how to drive this car and trust me I am ashamed as I type about my situation. But it is really getting on my nerves. There is also less than a second lag when I shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I'm almost thinking about selling it and getting a TIP. But I just wanted to know if others have same issue. Is there some where I can go to learn how to drive this stick-shift? It's like my timing is not right or something. I should have just bought TIP but the color (black/black) I wanted was not that easy to find in TIP. :renntech:
  8. I opened my trunk and pulled the carpet by the trunk release mechanism and then I saw the metal twisted wire clearly visible and going to the driver side body of the car. The reason I couldn't see the metal wire from under the wheel well was because the metal wire was real close to the body and wasn't hanging and it didn't have the loop. The metal wire had a metal head just like they have in the bicycle metal brake wires. Anyway, the wire is located on the right of driver side headlight and you have to remove the wheel well top and bottom plastic to get to it. I think every 997 owner should look at the location of the wire from inside the trunk under the carpet first before their battery dies or they forget the keys in the trunk. I'll try to upload a picture of it tonight. :renntech:
  9. I don't beleive there is an emergency release cable on the 997. I've searched this forum and the web and looked on both sides, driver and passenger, of my 05 C2S and didn't see it. Unless Loren can post some diagrams of the 997 front, otherwise I believe there is none. The only option for you Tom is to go to the dealership and give them your VIN and proof of ownership and they'll make you a key for $50-$100.
  10. I know the emergency trunk release is inside the trunk on the passenger side. How do you reach it to pull it from outside? I'm not sure.
