  1. Does anyone know what the difference between the GT3 cats and the regular 996 cats is? Are they interchangeable? By the photos they look the same!
  2. My 02 C4S has option M346 which list as "three spoke leather steering wheel" It has the colored crest.
  3. I have had this happen in my 02 996 when playing CD's. If I depress the "on" button for about 5 seconds continuously it comes back on. Take a look in your radio manual, perhaps it may contain some info.
  4. Loren, Thanks for the fast response. Lots of detail. I will take pictures and post the results if this fixes the problem. I had that whole inner shield out last weekend and I bet I must have knocked something loose... As always, thanks for your huge contributions! R/Tom The solenoid on top of the engine is the EVAP purge valve. If you disconnect it or if it fails it pops a P0441 code on my durametric software. I found the cannister purge valve in the right wheel well to be bad. I have it on order and should have it replaced in the next week or so. Will post some pics of the install if it cures the problem.
  5. Loren, I have searched for an hour and I cannot find a link I previously saw regarding Brake switch install and adjustment. I have installed the switch but still no brake lights. I think it needs adjusted. Thanks, Tom

  7. Its CEL Gremlin week! Anyone know where following components are located on a 02 996 C4S? Popped the CEL P0447 this week and it comes back everytime I start the car. Searched site for all info and Gas cap seal looks good although I may replace it as a cheap elimination factor... 1. EVAP Canister 2. EVAP Solenoid (Shut off Valve)
  8. Thanks to Loren and all who have responded to the tons of threads on this site that helped immensely in diagnosing my ABS and PSM off lights. Brake switch was bad, should have replacement in a few days and I'll be back in business. Thanks again! :renntech:
  9. OK, Did some checking; what the normal range is for a MAF sensor on my 2002 996 C4S. My readings are at .94 at idle and about 2.5 lbs/hr at about 2K RPM. Seems low to me. Also, the ABS PSM lights come on when I first touch the brake after I have started moving. Brake switch? Brake lights work? As always, thanks any advice.
  10. Interseting, then perhaps that could also be causing my P0430 code that popped within a day prior to that! Just assumed it was coincidence and that I had a bad cat!
  11. That makes sense, I will check the wiring. Not sure what the MAF has to do with the ABS though??? I saw that on another thread. Assuming MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor! Thanks!
  12. Wheel sensors are bolted into the hub, way too secure to be disturbed by rotating wheel. I pulled all the wheels and looked at each sensor. Was hoping someone else had a similar experience and would save me a trip to the dealers.
  13. While detailing my 02 996 C4S I raised each wheel independently and rotated the wheel back and forth by hand in order to clean the inside of the wheels and clean the brake calipers. When I went to start the car to move it, both the PSM and ABS caution lights immediately came on. If I restart the car they go off but after driving for a few minutes they come right back on. I have driven about 300 miles since this occurred and it continues every time I drive. I wouldn’t think the 4 wheel drive is that sensitive or that by simply rotating a wheel independently would cause this but it has. Do I need to have the dealer reset the system? Did I mess up the calibration? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the quick response and photo! OK, Got a chance to look at the car today. Results are as follows. Pulled plugs and they looked like the original plugs (85k) so it was time to go. Coil packs look good with no evidence of cracking or arcing. Hooked up my SCAN tool and monitored Bank 1 and Bank 2 02 sensors. Voltage and response time all seemed normal on both upstream and downstream sensors. MAF sensor voltage normal and response time normal. Tinny rattling sound coming from Bank 2 cat. Sounds like a loose marble in there... Now to see if I can find a good price on a cat. Didn't want to pull the cat until I have a replacement as it works fine except for the annoying check engine light after driving a few miles. Any ideas on a using a used low mileage cat? Thanks~ :renntech:
  15. Popping P0430 code on my 2002 C4S. No mods of any type and all serviceing up to date. BUT, car is out of emmsions waranty. Barely Of course... :) Returns after a few miles of driving with no other codes but the 0430. All research leads me to believe it is a Bad Cat plus when the engineis hot I can hear what sounds like an exhaust rattle. Question here is; Can someone tell me if Bank 2 is on the drivers or passenger side of the car. Any other advice greatly appreciated including PN of cat if known. Thanks! B)
