  1. I want to upgrade to 19" wheels for the improved look and can live with the decrease in handling. My car is not lowered and is on stock suspension so I do not think it will make a huge difference. I am concerned about weight and as such will be sticking with the OEM wheels (used) mentioned above or the Forgestar as the only aftermarket option in my price range. Most other aftermarket wheels (in price range) or OEM replicas are 4-8 lbs heavier per wheel and that seems really high to me even though this is strictly for street applications. I believe the Forgestar wheels are very close to OEM wheel weights (or maybe a little lighter) at approx 22.5 lbs front 24lbs rear for 19x8.5 and 19x10 applications. Also I like the look of a more agressive stance, so if going OEM I would utilize the Porsche 5mm spacers (not sure what those weight) where as the Forgestars have custom offsets so no spacers needed for slightly more agressive fitment.
  2. I am considering a wheel upgrade this summer from my current 18" boxster S wheels to a 19" wheel. I have played around with cut and paste today and can not decide what looks best on my 07 boxster S in Artic Silver. I am leaning towards the Gunmetal Forgestar F14, but part of me wants to stay with an OEM wheel. What do you guys think???
  3. Motu, So are you still liking the DWS's on your Cayman? If you would not mind, can you post a pic of the front view of your rear sport designs with the tires on as well as the 3/4 view? One thing that I was never a real fan of on the sport designs is that they always seemed to "stretch" the sidewall of the tire to make it look as if the tire actually went inwards from the outside of the rim up to the tread instead of having a slight "bulge" where the sidewall actually sticks out further than the rim. I was wondering if the extra width on the 275 tires would give the "bulge" effect I would be after. Thanks for you help on this! Dan
  4. great to know... just wanted to make sure I did not need the 5mm spacers to make the 275's work... although I may still install the spacers to give a little wider stance.
  5. did you go with 275x35x19 for the size... I do not think they come in the 265x35x19 that were OEM? Thanks again!
  6. I am going to be upgrading to 19" sport design wheels this summer and had seen these tires on tirerack as immediatly noticed the long treadwear rating. They are too new to have any customer reviews on their site as of yet, so how do you like them? is road noise okay? does the funky tread pattern look funny when viewing the car from behind? Any input would be great, I am debating between these all season ones or the Extreme contact DW summers... Thanks, Dan
  7. I was just curious if anyone can tell me if the 11" 997 rear wheel with 67mm offset will fit the rear of a 2007 987 Boxster S without rubbing? An offset calculator tells me that it will not stick out any further than stock, and will be ~5cm (49mm) closer on the inside of the rim. thanks guys! Dan
  8. I agree that after a review of the guidelines/check-lists of what should have been done when the CPO inspection was complete these types of items should have been fixed prior to CPO being issued. Now that we are after the fact, and the dealership and I have come to an agreement to make the situation right, I do not want to bash anyone in this public forum... I can only hope that the proper proceedures are taking place when dealerships are CPOing a car and I just want to make everyone aware, that just becuase a car is CPO does not mean that what will arrive at your door if buying sight unseen is a "new" looking car. Again, I am overall satisfied with my purchase, and with the steps taken to make my situation correct. And even though it is an out of state dealership that I will probably never do business with in the future, I do not think there is anything to gain to bash them as my experience may have been a one off and may not reflect the norm of that dealer.
  9. Wow, so Porsche would CPO the car with the cosmetic defects??? They most certainly did... and the worst part was that is was not even notated on the CPO checklist. Makes you wonder how detailed they are in the rest of the inspection... oh well, I have the CPO warranty for the next few years, I am sure if anything comes up, it will happen prior to the end of that. The important thing to know is that just because it is CPO, you can not assume the car is as new if you are going to buy sight unseen like I did. but all in all, I am satisfied with my purchase.
  10. I purchased my 2005 987 on eBay Motors from a private seller in California, I live in New York (this was during this past summer). I paid Carchex (~$200) to go take a look at it and test drive it for me as I wasn't going to fly all the way out there to do it myself. While the Carchex visit ensured that the car was in fact real and present where it was supposed to be it, had an engine, and ran was definitely not as thorough as Prosche's own Pre-Purchase-Inspection (PPI). After receiving the car I took it in for a PPI at my local Porsche dealer. They found the following small but somewhat costly problems: * Sport Chrono "clip" broken - $550 * One of the three Homelink buttons broken - $100 * Cigarette lighter broken - $50 * Ash tray lid broken - $200 (I found this one) * Air vent lever broken - $300 (I found this one too) * Cup holder door broken - $300 (I knew about this one before I bought it but thought it would be "cheap" to fix) * ....and one or two other small things that I can't recall right now. As you can see they are minor things but it adds up quickly since Porsche just replaces entire items like the Sport Chrono unit if there is even a small problem with it like a "broken clip." Thankfully there was nothing *major* wrong. I did, however, just have the clutch replaced and a leaking RMS replaced (under warranty) for a total of about $1900 (that was with a 40k maintenance as well). I also need new tires which will be about another $1,000. I guess the moral of the story is try to get a Prosche mechanic/dealer to look over the car before you buy it, not a generalist, and also to be prepared for the costs associated with owning a Porsche. The other piece of advice I can give you is around shipping the car (if you're going to do that). Shipping is another whole area that you need to research and it's sort of a sketchy business IMHO. I spend a lot of time researching shippers and shipping costs (www.transportreviews.com is a good site for this). I finally settled on Direct Auto Movers (a broker and a carrier - yes there's a difference) based on price, reviews, and just a good feeling for the guy I was dealing with (Brian if you opt to go this route). Shipping across country from Northern California to Upstate New York was $1,100. If you do have the car shipped in an open air transport make sure to request that it is *top loaded.* Top-loading ensures fluids from other cars on the transport won't drip onto your soft top. Top-loading will cost a little more, but, it's worth it. Also, don't forget to vet the seller themselves. In addition to the standard eBay vetting (good rating, good feedback, etc. - does Autotrader have something similar?) you can do simple things like Google him/her. I Googled my seller, his business, found his home on Google Maps, etc. to make sure everything "added up" that he'd been telling me. Overall I've very pleased with my sight-unseen, cross-country, Porsche purchase. With a little due diligence a long distance purchase can work. Here's a similar post requesting general advice for buying a Boxster. Hope this helps, Jason I too am overall pleased with my sight unseen boxster purchase, but mine was not without problems as well... I purchased mine from a porsche dealer out of state as a CPO vehicle. So obviously they did the PPI, but did not find a lot of cosmetic issues that I would have thought would have been mentioned on the PPI or the CPO checklist. ended up having to re-paint the bumper covers front and rear at a cost of just over $1000, and the dealer ended up making up a portion of it to me... Shipping was another story for me as well, I went with the company recommended by the dealer, and while all ended well, the whole transport seemed very unorganized... the driver may leave on this day, but he is going to stop here on the way for someones wedding, and then he may have to pick up a vehicle here or there along the way... so he could make it to you on this day, but maybe not until this day, etc.... but I think that is just how thier biz works, they try to pick up as many cars as they can along the way to increase the profit of that trip, and that may mean delay in when you recieve your car.... Anyway, I ended up happy in the end and hope you do as well! best of luck!
  11. As I mentioned in my prior post, I am looking for new wheels to go on my 2007 boxster S. My search has lead me to either look for used OEM wheels or replicas. My question is with the TPMS sensors... When I inquired about a new set of these to go on another set of wheels I was informed they run about $500 just for the sensors. Does anyone know how the computer in the car would react if I were to install new wheels w/o sensors? If there would be an error message constantly flashing, I do not think I could live with that, but if it simply just did not give a reading that would be okay as I normally do not keep the tire pressure on my little screen. Thanks guys!
  12. I was interested in updating the look of my 987 with the 997 turbo style 19" wheels from wheel dynamics. I asked about weight and was told that the replica wheels they sell are about 4lbs heavier per wheel than OEMs. I know that OEM P wheels are light weight, so are these replica wheels truly heavey, or just more normal than the OEMs. Futher, if I am not tracking the car or anything like that, would I even notice the extra weight in normal everday (sometimes spirited) driving? These wheels look fantastic are are a little less than half the price of the OEMs and wheel dynamics seems to be highly recommended on this forum as well as others so I think the weight thing is my only issue. What do you guys think? Pic below from thier website.
  13. I have not done this, but Eric and bumperplugs.com has the parts you will need to do the conversion, as well as he will paint them to match whatever color you want the grills to be.
  14. I know I have seen pictures somewhere of someone who took appart every plastic button of thier radio and temp controls and the face plates to have eric at bumperplugs paint them all in Porsche white. I know that is a bit extreeme, but it did look very nice.
  15. did you leave the car parked with the turn signal engaged? That will leave on the hazard lights... Just a thought.
  16. +1 on the BOSE being a must if you enjoy listening to music with the top down... Make sure you try out the radio on your test drive to make sure you can hear the music with the drop top. I found it hard when I drove one w/o the BOSE. I ended up with a 2007 CPO 987S this past summer and hardly any regrets... other than the fact that it is now in the garage leaving me with a monthly payment and my daily driver out in the snow this winter! My wife does not understand it either... the only good thing is that she is accepting of it as long as she still gets the other side of the garage :clapping: Go for it, it is a great car and you will enjoy... Maintanance should not be bad as long as you do not abuse it... My local dealer will change the oil for $150 out the door, and that lasts for the year... minor and major maintaince as scheduled are a bit more expensive, but that is only every 2 and 4 years... Get a late model CPO like I did and you should have a warranty that covers everyting for the next 4 years (make sure you check the in service date, a 2007 may not have been sold until 2008 etc...) that way, besides the scheduled maintanace, it will be payed off before you have to shell out any major expenses for repair...
  17. Out of curiosity, when you wash your car yourself, how do effectively clean *under* the car? Is there a hose attachment or something you can get that let's you get under there more easily? no special attachment, just get down on the ground and spray upwards on the underside of the car from all sides... probably not as effective as an undercarrage auto-car wash, but no risk of damage to the car either...
  18. I had a plummer install a hot water spicket in my garage so I can do car washes in my garage in the winter with below freezing temps. This seems to do the trick, but make sure you completely drain the hose prior to putting it away, otherwise the water inside with freeze.
  19. My 2 cents... Unless you are installing a factory satellite radio or have a head unit with aux imput, then the sound quality just isn't there and not worth installing. Every time I have tried to install an aftermarket satellite radio into one of my cars, the sound quallity is lousy. Even if you hard wire to the fm antenna jack in the back of the cdr24, it will still only sound as good as the fm radio. They only time I even take my radio into one of my cars is if I am going on a long trip as it passes the time well, but the sound quaility will never be there unless you have a factory satellite radio or an aux jack.
  20. That is normal. That means on hot rainy days, you have to put up with the hot defogger to clear your windshield? You'd have to manually cycle between A/C and hot defogger. If you just leave on the A/C and only have the up arrow blower turned on... would this not defog the windshield as you desire??? I think that actual defogger button is just a one touch way to turn on the blower all the way up and on conditioned heat to defrost quickest... much the same as the max AC button is a one touch way to do the exact opposite...
  21. I have this problem as well, however the cd changer in the front trunk seems to work a lot better than the in dash player, especially on cdr disks...
  22. The third radiator is only on the tiptronic models, which thankfully I don't have either... It is more fun to shift gears than to have an extra radiator! If you really want to, you can add the extra radiator, I think suncoast sells a kit for it.
  23. did you try putting them all the way down with the auto-window switches and then all the way back up to "reset" the memory of the window positions... I know sometimes this works.
  24. Just another quick question on this... Is this strictly to protect the interior and trunks against moisture, or should I also be placing a few large bags under the car to prevent moisture on the underside of the car. My garage floor does not sweat and has been sealed with epoxy, however there will be moisture in the garage from snow on the other cars melting etc... Thanks again White! Dan
  25. Not necessarily. I doubt they did the brake fluid. I checked my maintenance book, sure enough, they did do the brake fluid earlier this year... good news! Thanks again for the tips, I already have the car cover, and I will get some of the anti moisture bags, great idea!
