  1. Hey guys! Just want to give an update on what's wrong with my car. Apparently it's the transmission support that needs replacement. The rubber on the support has worn out, so when the tranny is subjected to g force during turns, some part of the tranny and the mounts would be metal to metal. I'm so glad that the extent of the problem wasn't so bad. If it was the LSD, it would have cost me some $$$$$$$$$$$$$! Godspeed!
  2. Thanks guys for the inputs. Will check the lugnuts. The car is completely stock and original...this being the case I am open to the possibility that the shocks needs replacement if the noise I coming from wheel rubbing. Godspeed!
  3. Hi Guys, Last weekend I took my 996 GT3-MK1 to the track. After a few warm up laps, I noticed each time I would go thru fast corners, there would be a abnormal sound on the rear of the car. The sound sounded like as if the wheel was rubbing against the fenders. Besides the sound there would be a vibrating sensation. However when I checked the car by lifting it, there are no signs of wheel rubbing. The sound is consistent whether the car takes left or right corners. When I take the corners slow, the sound doesn't appear...it's only when there is "g force" in rear portion of the car during turns when the sound and vibration would appear. One guess that I have could be the engine support.... Thanks for your inputs in advance guys! Godspeed!
  4. Hi Guys! Came across this thread and just want to share it with you guys. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...=585548&i=0 I'm quite sure that this is just a remote case and this experience and comments would represent the minority. I'm sure this is one of the "few bad eggs" in every batch. At the end of the day I am still quite confident with this new technology and how well it will perform.... and I just can't wait to take delivery on my Macadamia Carera S PDK this december! :D Happy driving and Godspeed!
  5. I purchased one of the white/stone C2 release cars with PDK about 3 weeks ago and I really am enjoying this transmission. I do sometimes miss rowing gears on backroads and the harmony it creates b/w man, machine and road, but I still have my Manual 6 speed M3 for those days. The PDK is truly amazing and with about 1,000 miles on the odo I have found no flaws thus far. Cruising on the HWY........go to the true overdrive 7th gear and get 35+ mpg, tearing it up on backroads.....once you get used to the reverse nature of the shifter and paddles.....you can seamlessly shift without power loss at blindingly fast speeds. If there had been the exact same, manual tranny, car available on the lot the day I bought mine sitting next to the PDK equipped car I purchased I know I would have gone the 6MT route, but upon reflection and three weeks in......I believe I am glad that option wasn't available and that PDK was *forced* upon me. PDK will not be for everyone, but it is amazing technology and I am thoroughly enjoying my new car even if it is only the base C2. I miss the red calipers of my BXTR 987s though! If only I had a three care garage! I'm 42, this is my first post here, a white 911 has been my dream car since I was 13 so.............welcome me to the family ya'll! :D Hi BRANDX! Welcome to the wonderful 911 family! For me regardless what kind of 911 you have...you can never go wrong with a 911. Once you've owned one, its hard to imagine to live without one! I'm glad to hear you now own you dream car. I recall when I was younger, each time I would visit my best-friend I would always come across this house with a brown 911 parked outside. I always said to myself one day I will have one!... Currently I have on order a Macadamia Carrera 2 S which I will be taking delivery mid-December. What can I say...dreams can come true! Although the Macadamia color is an acquired taste color and not everyone likes it, I just love the retro look it gives to the 911. Thanks for your inputs / feedback regarding the PDK transmission. I'm sure you will have more great driving pleasure coming your way. Godspeed!
  6. Guess I was right...there was something wrong. I recieved a call from my dealer today to update me on my car. Apparently besides the flaps were not properly alligned, it seems a flap has warped causing some air to abnormally leak between the gaps even if the whindshield vent is shut-off. Finally! .... The car has been in the shop for abit more than a month now and I'm just so eager to drive it and have some fun! Trackday this weekend! Godspeed! :D
  7. Hi Craig, Thanks for the quick reply and the inputs. You learn something new everyday! :D Yes, the air is leaking from the vents near the base of the windshield. It's timely that there are German technicians (from Porsche Germany) that just arrives in our local dealer doing thier regular visit. They are personally evaluating the situation to see if its normal. Will keep you posted. Godspeed! V
  8. Hi guys! Recently I brought in my car to the local dealer to get the aircon vent in the dashboard fixed in my MK1. Even if the vent is closed, air still comes out from the said vents causing the windshield to fog especially when raining. I know it was not like that before. Unfortunately I've been getting into an argument with service guy since they say it's natural to have "minimal" air coming out of the dash. FYI, recently the foam from the a/c system has been blowing out of the vents and I assume this is one possible cause of the air leak in the dash...which I've been telling them that they need to "refoam" the system which will seal the air leaks. According to them they this already to the housing of the evaporator. Besides the evaporator, should they do refoaming work in the other parts of the a/c system? Which part of the a/c system is foam used on? I'm asking this because I want to visualize how do things look from the other end.... Frankly it's quite frustrating since they can't solve the problem and they just say "it's normal!" :o If you guys have any inputs, or feel the problem is caused by something else, I would greatly appreciate it. Godspeed! V
  9. Thanks Craig! Redundant? ... Preachy?... Not at all! I find your points very practical. From the sound of it, it seems like I need to retro fit my car with belt mounts. My car does have ROW GT3 seats with holes for the shoulder belts. However if I were to put the shoulder belts thru the holes, it would end up "angling down" since the only place where I can anchor the shoulder belts is in the area where the back seats are suppose to be...which you said is quite dangerous due to spinal compression in the event of a crash. Thanks again for the inputs! Godspeed!
  10. Hi Guys, I plan to install a 4 point harness seat belt on my car. However my half cage doesn't have the a "cross bar" where you can strap the upper harness / belts. Do you guys have any suggestions where I should connect the upper harness / belts. Thanks and Godspeed!
  11. Hi Guys, Currently I own a 996 GT3 MK1 which is a car I never see myself letting go. Its unfortunate I just can't use it as much because the car is to "raw" for everyday use. Anyway I plan to get a 997 PDK. I test drove one and I was totaly speechless. Besides the sporty / comfort feel, I feel it is just a different creature all together compared to the previous 997. The torque, accelaration and power delivery is just amazing. The PDK transmission is something else. So much different compared to the previous tip tronic tanny tecnology. Even SMG technology of other car makers doesn't even come close. The PDK allows the power to be in a continous flow when shifting gears and shifting is smooth and very fast. Unfortunately I was only able to test drive the car for a few miles. Just incase any of you guys have taken delivery of your PDK and has had more time in testing this new technology, I would like to get your inputs and experiences particularly if you've seen any "qwirks" . Godspeed! Flying V

    mk1 flywheel

Thanks! That's what I thought so.... Anyway the reason why I ask is I plan to upgrade my mk1's flywheel to a single mass flywheel since I'm due to change my clutch. Unfortunately I can't get much info from the service adviser (from the one and only Porsche dealer in the country) since he is quite lazy. I know this modification has been done by numerous gt3 owners, but he insists it can't be done! If anyone can give me info on how this mod is done, such as proceedure, the parts I have to replace and part numbers, I would really appreciate it! :) Thanks and Godspeed!

    mk1 flywheel

Did the mk1 come with a single mass flywheel? Was there an option whether you could have speced out the car with a single mass or a dual mass flywheel? Thanks!
  14. Thanks man! I really appreciate the info!
  15. Hi guys! 1) Are the 5mm wheelspacers used for MK1 hubcentric type? 2) I plan to go to the track this weekend and I intend to install my original MK1 stock rims (with new cup tires  ). Unfortunately I can't find the 5mm wheelspacers the car originally came with. Would it be unadvisable for me to install my original wheels without the spacers? Will it make a big difference in terms of handling if the the wheelspacers isn't installed? Thanks and Godspeed!
  16. Hi! I ended up also buying gold BBS LM's for my car. However the size of the front wheels that was delvered to me is 18x8.5 offset 56 (instead of 18x8 off-set 52). I'm assuming its the size for the MK2. Do you guys think it's ok to use this size in the MK1 considering it's .5 inches wider than the stock tires. With regards to the different off-set, I was thinking of just not installing the front spacers to more or less compensate for the difference in the off-set and the wider tires. Thanks and Godspeed!
  17. tnx loren for the info. please forgive my ignorance... but what do you mean by 'RoW GT3'? :)
  18. Hi Guys! Does anyone know the off-set for the original gt3 mk1 wheels (front and rear)? Also does the original wheels of the mk1 use spacers? When I bought my MK1 it had after market wheels on it, and I plan to put it back to the original look. Just want to make sure I get the right off-set when I buy my new wheels. :) Thanks and God bless!

    RS Flywheel

Can the gt3 rs flywheel be fitted in a MK1? Thanks and God bless!
  20. Thanks for your inputs! Can anyone suggestions what front spoiler kit I can buy that can improve the down force in the front end of my car...... taking into consideration I want to maintain as much as possible the original look of my mk1? Thanks and God bless!
  21. Thanks for the quick reply! As you mentioned, you adjusted your wing to the middle position without any additional lowering. How does the car feel now compared when the wing was in the original setting (particularly in high speeds)? Since you get more down force in the back on high speeds, does it affect the front end of the car in terms of handling and feel? I dont want the front end of my car to feel "floaty".... Thanks again!!!
  22. Thanks! How about my front suspension height? Do I need to lower it when I adjust my wing?
  23. Hi guys! I plan to adjust the rear spoiler of my GT3 MK1 so I can "plant" the rear of my car more to the road when going high speeds. I have never attempted to adjust it yet, and before I do so I wanted to get inputs from you guys first. How do I adjust the rear wing? Do I need to change any mechanical parts (like locks, hinges, screws/bolts etc.... that hold the flap in the spoiler together)? Also I read somewhere that if the rear wing is adjusted, I would need to lower the front suspension of my car to compensate with the additional down force in the rear. Is this true? If so, by how many mm do I need to lower my front suspension? Thanks and God bless!
  24. hi guys! its been quite awhile since I last logged in. I'm thinking of doing some upgrades to my gt3 (mk1), and one of the things I plan to do is upgrade my computer box. has anyone here done this kind of upgrade to their gt3? if so, how is it? techart said they can upgrade my computer box and after modification they claim my car will have 395hp and 450nm of torque! what do you guys think!? any other suggestions!? thanks and God bless! ram
  25. Hi guys! Just last sunday, it was the firstt time I was able to track my GT 3 - mk1. **** was it fun! However, towards the end, my brakes started to fade. One of my friends that had the same car before experienced the same thing when we tracked his car. Also I was also able to read in one of the topics posted in this group that it is suggested to upgrade the brakes for the mk1 due to the same problem that I experienced. To address this problem, do I need to change the whole caliper system? if so, to what kind? Will changing or upgrading brake pads help or at least an option? Thanks and God bless! Ram
