  1. The ad listed below is way off on the description of the car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=4599205114 Below is a a partial summary of the issues with the car and the ebay ad. 1 - Paint is starting to dull and has lots of scratches 2 - slight oil leak (1/2 quart every 4-6k miles) 3 - Leather is worn pretty bad on the front seats 4 - Back of the front seats are ripped (one of the previous owners had a wheelchair that caused this) 5 - The headliner has quite a few small rips in it (previous owner again) 6 - The rear window is scratched on the inside (previous owner again) 7 - The front windshield is pitted and had deep scratches from sand in the wiperblades 8 - It was not a 'one owner' car as I was the 3rd person to own the car. 9 - It was not a 'new Porsche trade in' as I traded in the car at a Ford dealership in Austin for a BMW Z4 3.0 The list keeps going on and on. The car is great if you want something to fix up (my original plan) but its not in the condition they are listing it in. I traded the car in because I needed something as a daily driver with a warranty. If anyone bids on this car, please feel free to contact me for my history on the car for the 7 months I owned. Please past this post on to any other site you might think would be interested in it. I'd hate to see someone get ripped off due to a dealer out to make a quick buck.
  2. Good luck on that. Being from Texas I know how this normally works out. Small towns courts like that thrive off the revenue from the traffic violations.
  3. I'd say just buck up and take defensive driving (if you haven't already with in the past year and are a resident of TX). If it was a county or local officer you might try and fight it (but I wouldn't hold your breath on a chance to win) but when it comes to the TX DPS patrols its normally not worth it. The radar systems used by the DPS officers are pretty dang acurate, even in a situation like what you're talking about. I've been clocked in past by them in several situations and everytime it was pretty much dead on for how fast I was going. Good luck either way
  4. See the following page. Becker has them for $.20 each from their site. http://www.beckerautosound.com/
  5. Bavarian, I haven't had much experience (AKA none what so ever) with the MOST bus radios, but I believe they do not accept the analog inputs that would normally be used on the older versions. (Anyone, if I'm wrong, please correct me) So you're probably looking at having to use the FM modulator until someone releases an analog to digital converter for the MOST bus. The best FM modulator to use I think would be an inline unit. It would feed inbetween your antenna lead and the antenna in connection on the radio. An inline FM modulator will block out the actual antenna signal while its in use. Because of this, you'll have less 'bleed over' from any radio stations that might be broadcasting on the same FM channel you're using for the modulator. With a setup using an FM modulator, I might recommend using both types of filters. You'd be using the inline audio filter from the IPod to the FM modulator. Then you'd also be using an inline power filter for the power connections on the FM modulator. The whole point of both types of filters it to remove or damper certain frequencies of EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference). Its possible you might lose some audio clarity from the filters, (mainly highs and sub 60Hz lows) but they should help to reduce the overall line noise. If anyone else wants to add to this, please do as its been a while since I've even attempted to install any form of car audio. It use to be a big passion of mine back in the mid to late '90s so I might be a bit rusty on a few things here and there.
  6. I might recommend trying an inline noise suppression filter like the ones listed on the sites below. Either the inline power or audio filter should help out. http://www.allaudioexpo.com/nav/listing.asp?catid=79 http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/cats/6...isefilters.html
  7. Nice looking car you have there. I say that as I have a '99 Guards Red with Savannah Beige interior. My first mod was to get a Fabspeed airbox kit and a high flow airfilter. It made the car sound better even if there was no performance gain. I need to get some new rims as the previous owner decided he liked 993 Targa rims over the stock twisties. (looks good but just not right for the car) I think this is a decent list to consider for mods: PSE or quality aftermarket exhaust Aerokit or a good body kit (the car really looks best with a fixed spoiler I think) updated Xeon headlights and smoked taillights Carbon Fiber interior lowering kit and if you got the $$$ to spare, EVO supercharger kit Am I missing anything? Beuller? Beuller? *grin*
  8. you are correct and a good point to bring up. US spec requires a 200Khz spacing between stations while in Europe they use 100Khz. so in the US where you'd go from say 93.7 to 93.9, in Europe you'd go from 93.7 to 93.8 then to 93.9. From page 56 in the Monza users manual (from the link posted earlier) "Tuning is performed in increments of 100 kHz. From Page 12 in the US Porsche CDR220 manual (posted in the manual section of this site) Tuning steps of 200kHz (FM) or 10kHz (AM) are performed. I just set my CDR220 to South American stepping as this drops the stepping to 100kHz. I couldn't tell a difference in the quality of reception. The only difference was when manually tuning it was in 100kHz steps instead of 200kHz.
  9. Becker doesn't have a unit out right now that will support both a CD changer and Aux inputs for XM or an IPOD. The units listed above will work with either a CD changer or Aux inputs, but not both. Its possible to have someone with a bit of electronic design experience to create an external switch box so you could do both. The circuitry should be fairly straight forward actually. I could probably provide a quick schematic for it if anyone is interested.
  10. I believe that is correct. I knew I forgot something when I was typing the original message late last night.
  11. If you're like me you want to upgrade to a radio with MP3 capability but still retain that factory look. I've seen several nice aftermarket radios out there but nothing just looks 'factory' enough for me. What can I say, I like the stock look. Becker has a couple of nice MP3 capable units that are only available in Europe. Below are links to an ebay seller that will ship to the US (and the rest of the world). The two units in the links retain that 'factory stock' feel while being up to date on technology. Becker Mexico Pro 793x series http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Becker Monza 788x series http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW I've also included links to the user guides from the Becker website below becker Mexico Pro 793x Manual http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_root/d...coProMP3_En.pdf Becker Monza 788x Manual http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_root/d...MonzaMP3_En.pdf the nice thing about either of these is the direct fit and harness connections to the factory stereo system. I'm considering a Mexico 7930 to replace my dying CDR220. Hope this helps a few people who prefer the factory look and want MP3.
  12. I've got a nick in the Savannah beige part of my upper console also. I haven't looked for any paint for as I plan on replacing it with either carbon fiber or a solid painted piece (silver or black). If you need a good source for leather repair supplies (not the $10 kits at the local auto store) I found this place during my research a few weeks back. http://www.leatherrenew.com/color%20chart%20Porsche.htm I forgot to add the first time. You might try taking the trim piece off and visit the local paint supply store. They should be able to computer match the color and mix a small batch up for you.
  13. Its a fairly common issue. Have them reset the light and if it comes back its they will probably have to replace the following items: airbag control module, wiring harness for the seat belts seat belt receptacles Right before I bought my '99 in March the previous owner had to get this done. Be sure to argue with the dealer if they want to charge you too much for this (if not under a warranty) as its a design fault for the most part.
  14. Crutchfield has a decent price on the Kenwood deck with the DVD navigation unit included http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IrgAZbo3aV3/c...2350&I=700PDV41
  15. Check out this link. http://www.leathermedic.com/map.html Its a franchise company that specializes in leather restoration. Several local dealerships use the local agent to recondition the trade ins they get. The process they use is able to restore the worn leather to showroom new for a fraction of the cost of new skins.
  16. Actually going to bed at 3:00 am is a little early for me. I work a later schedule at work so I normally don't go to bed until 4:00 am to 5:00 am. However that night I couldn't go back to sleep because of the anticipation of picking up the car. It made working the next night a real fun experience. I was nodding off every 30 minutes or so. Luckily at my job I can get away with it for the most part.
  17. I got the car on Thursday and I'm loving it so far! I'm about to go out, apply some wax (did a 3am wash down for reason what so ever) and then hit the hill country for a cruise. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words.
  18. Another solution might be a new Kenwood unit that's out. its a double DIN format, but has a bit of 'ricer' look to it in my opinion. http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product....&productId=2557
  19. A darker finish would have looked good I think. Rosewood or something darker. It would have contrasted the color of the interior quite well. This company provides the supplies for creating all type of finishes, including a new process for mirror like spray on chrome. http://alsacorp.com/index.htm I was looking at some of their products to refinish the soft touch rubber finish interior on my '94 Corvette a few years ago. As long as you don't 'rice' it out chrome or any other type of finish would compliment the interior quite well.
  20. This is the only aftermarket fully indash system I've seen. http://www.rosenentertainment.com/rosenindash.htm I've not seen one in person so I couldn't tell you how well it works. If you want to add the factory unit check out LA Dismantler. They have a complete retrokit for the factory PCM I http://911pcar.com/Porsche_Parts/porsche_p...ereo_system.htm The price seems decent on the retrokit, at least to me. Let me know which way you decide to go, I'm thinking of doing the same.
  21. If you mainly drive the car on the road instead of tracking it, I'd opt for the patch myself. A patch should be good for ordinary road use where as if it was a track car, I'd get new tires. Heck it might be a good time to buy a set of track rims and tires and keep these for daily use. *grin* As for taking the car to Discount Tire, I'd recommend instead taking it to NTB. I've had a very satisfactory customer relationship with NTB over the past seven years. NTB service is leaps and bounds above Discount Tire in my opinion.
  22. It looks like they are doing water transfer printing. If you've seen any cellphones with patterns, images, ect printed on them, this is how they do it. It give a great finish for a fraction of the cost of real wood veneer. Here's a link on how the process works. http://www.watertransferprinting.com/how.htm If they used another method to refinish your pieces, let me know as I'd be interested in how they are doing it.
  23. 3/10/05: Got it! very very nice 3/10/05: Today is the day! I've been awake since 5:00 am wanting to go pick up the car. I tell ya dealerships need to be open at 5:00 am! I've been lurking around here for a while now trying to decide if I was going to take the plunge and retire my '01 Corvette for something different. The decision has been made, the car found and the loan approved. So, sometime next week I will be the 3rd proud owner of a '99 Carrera 2 coupe. So now I'm just waiting till I get all the funds available to plunk down the full downpayment on the 'new' car. Hopefully next week I'll have that patented and tradedmarked 'perma' grin back on my face that comes with a new toy. The wait is killing me. I spend so much time reading the forum and browsing E-Bay for parts to add on once I get it, I hardly get any work done. Oh well, just another week or so.
