  1. Open the fuse box under the driver side on the footwell and see if there are any jumpers between fuses. That was how I got my US version to work with DRL's, just a small wire between two fuses.
  2. Norton, I was able to get to the switches when I was installing the stalk for the OBD on my 99. If you follow those instructions (I think they are on the boxster section by Tool Pants), there will be a point where the switches are easy to remove. From memory, after removing the airbag, and disconnecting the connector for the switches, they can be removed. Maybe easy to remove the steering wheel at that point and bring to a well lit place where you can comfortably see how they pop off. Looks like a good idea, post some pics when done. Izzy
  3. The rings can crack, and they cost pennies. I change the tubes and rings when I change plugs, Adds about $20 to the job, but it is "cheap insurance" to me. Specially after going thru the trouble of getting the plugs out, in my opinion. Here is the expensive certified and patented extraction tool to remove the tubes when fingers don't work.
  4. Try this: North America 1-866-4NAVTEQ (866-462-8837) 8:00am - 6:00pm CST They are not particularly helpful or cheerful, but at least you talk to a person Could also try: Blue Llama Luxury Auto in Conyers, GA, tel 404-432-5035. They sell a lot of them, and if they don't have it now could get it for you.
  5. My experience is only on 996's (1999 adn 2003), but I do know that when I change pads from regular (dealer) pads to Pagid Orange for track days the brakes work very fast and the car stops a lot quicker. Takes some time to re-learn how hard to hit the brakes in city driving with the pagids. Then after track, going back to OEM pads, it also takes some time to remember to brake with more time and the brakes do feel softer. I am telling you in case you want to experiment with different pads and get a feeling you like, and can get more comfortable with it. The only downside is the more aggresive pads tend to be noisier. This company has the lowest pricing for Pagids I have found on-line, in case you want to give it a try. Different colors have different bites. http://rennstore.com/
  6. hi8ha (Hialeah?) For that long summer time in Miama, you may want to use a 5w-50 or more summer weight oil. If you go to the dealer, ask to speak with a tech and ask them what would they recommend. I am assuming your car is out of warranty, so filling with 0w-40 is not a "requirement". Our techs recommend 5-50 in NC for summer use, I found Castrol Syntec works good for me. Then I swith to 0-40 for winter
  7. I thought it was 12 months for batteries.
  8. Scott, looking through the shop manuals, page 37 D10, 11, 12, did you replace the DME or the Tiptronic Module? Two separate controllers (boxes), just in case.
  9. It sounds like the "CTCL" motor. It is a separate motor that drives the cover, and has the microswitch you mention. If the switch is not bad or bent, the motor is the likely culprit. There is a "new" style of "bracket and motor" from Porsche that fix the problem for me. Cost was about $200 for parts. A dealer can verify the problem with the tester and you can change the part, save yourself some bucks. Izzy
  10. Best solution I have is V1, hardwire to the car phone power wire. If you run the power cord inside the passenger side A-pillar trim, then you can use the V1 clip to attach it to the sun visor. The cable is hidden and you can leave the detector power on always, but will only turn on when you start the car. V1 has the remote viewer which fits nicely under the tachometer so you can keep your eyes forward and recognize the radar. The detector unit won't light up, only the remote viewer, which makes it more "stealthier". There a couple of good articles in the site for how to hook it up
  11. If you do a search under V1 hardwire, you will see it. Most people that hardwire the Valentine 1 radar detectors wire it to the phone plug.
  12. You know what you really need? You need a 99 Cabrio 996, Metallic blue with a blue top and tan interior, tiptronic of course, cd changer, etc, etc, etc. Oh, wait a minute, I just happen to have one in my garage for sale, your lucky day! What do you know!!! Have a great New Year, hope this is done for you so you can go on a nice long ride. Izzy
  13. Just finished installing the B&M short shifting kit that bolts on under the car by the transmission. A few brackets and bolts, easiest mod I have ever done, and it is adjustable for mounting the ball pin connector for 15 and 30% reduction. Went for a drive, and it feels pretty awesome, a lot shorter and crisper than I expected. I also liked the fact that the work is all under the car, and don't need to remove the trim and brake something with my banana fingers and ham hands. The kit information is at http://www.bmracing.com/index.php?id=produ...=15&pid=318 and it comes with pretty decent instructions, easy to follow with pictures (my favorite). Other information in Renntech from previous post was very handy too, and helped a lot: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&M+rear And a source that has a lot of parts. Also Atlantic Speed Performance Parts (ebay seller) has a lot of them. They are located near Charlotte, NC. http://www.jazzproparts.com/ProductDetails...oductCode=45183 Izzy
  14. I know you have to be tired of spending time and money on this thing, but.... Here some unsolicited information, see if the tech can flush all the fluid out, all 9 liters and refill with the correct fluid. If he (or she, to be PC) can not flush it, then do the change at least 2-3 times. Drain, refill, drive for a while, repeat. The old fluid will mix with the new one and you will not get the old one out by only doing one drain. The original ESSO is hard to find, dealer only. But Pennzoil makes an equivalent. I think I have the info in the DIY. Good luck, happy new year. Izzy
  15. Scott, I am surprise they can not tell you if the control module is it or not. If you like, send me a pm with an email address that I can forward some goodies. There are test point by test point diagnosis (about 40 pages worth) that a dealer with the correct equipment (PST2) should do to rule in or out the module or another component. I used it to get to fix my Tip problem, the dealer tech did not followed the process at all from my perspective. I ended up bringing the printed pages to my dealer, and told them what to do. And yes, you can get an used module, I have seent them in Ebay, or LAdismantlers too.
  16. I have been using regular microsoft player (whatever comes loaded "free" in the puters) to burn music CD's without any issues, by either downloading and burning or making a copy from an original. Just did it last week, had no issues with CD-R. But do recall having issues with re-recordables CD's......
  17. Hopefully the dealer can extract transmission fault codes and get to the bottom of it. I wonder if you have other issues, like gunk in the inlet butterfly or valve control, based on the engine hesitation. Let us know what they tell you and get the codes printed out.
  18. I will admit, I do admire the Z06's. Dollar wise is a hell of a drive. And as I was topping 141 mph at VIR last weekend, them suckers were passing me at 150 (I had to ask them after the event what was their speed). Not a bad sports car at all. A black Z06 passed me TWICE during a 30 min time. I was depressed so had to find out who it was, went to the where the Vete's where pitting and asked them who was driving the black Z06 in my group. They asked "which one? we have 3 Z06's in that group, all same year". Needless to say, I felt a LOT better. Still, you have to admire the engineering they pulled at the price point they pulled it at Chevy. If you love sportscars........
  19. All 8 of 'em! Yup. After the carving, the kicker to make it look almost perfect is some sand paper rolled around it, and rotate it, up to 220 grit. nice shiny like a molded piece. I should make them and sell them.
  20. I got the Porsche non-smoker plug on ebay (came with the insert). It doesn't fit into the lighter socket so you go have to go through the removal and swaping process. I opted for sitting in front of the TV with my utility blade, removeing some of the plastict in the thicker parts. 10 minutes later it fit perfectly into the lighter socket.
  21. I also have 226 code in my hood sticker for an '03 Coupe. Could never find out what it was. Even the dealer did a search for that year and came up with nothing. It is a mistery code for me, waiting to be discovered.
  22. PM going your way. The full fill is 9 in the owners manual, page 250. My local dealer uses that amount when "flushing all out". When I do it, is less than 7, more than 6. I bought 9 quart and filled the pump reservoir using 7, had some left over, maybe 1/2 quart all said and done. I used a modified pump sprayer to get the fluid up into the hole, used the other hole for a temperature probe.
