  2. Most likely the problem is in the second gear synchro ring (a Porshce invention), particularly if it grinds most when the engine is cold. If it never grinds when shifting into first while not moving, then it is probably not the clutch, or hydraulic clutch linkage. If its the synchro, your transmission needs rebuilding or replacing, a costly proposition. You can avoid the grind by learning to match gear speeds and a of double clutching. When you shift to second leave the trans in neutral, let the engine speed drop 30 to 50 % of the speed when you first depressed the clutch, then depress the clutch again and shift to second. If it continues to grind a lot, you could eventual lose one or more gears, entirely. ,Good luck BoxsterDriver
