  1. Thanks. Sounds plausible, however from what I can read in the enclosed tread it may be more applicable to newer engines. I have 43K miles on my car and I would expect the protectant to wear off after 4 years of driving. The car has been thoroughly checked and is in perfect working order, so at least I was able to eliminate any potential mechanical issues. It really appears to be related to the driving style.
  2. Hi everyone: I have a 911 C2 (997, 2005) with standard 18 inch wheels and brakes. I want to change to winter tires, which I keep mounted on the extra set of wheels (OEM). I plan to do this over the weekend in my garage and would like to know whether there is a prescribed torque value that needs to be considered when tightening the lug nuts. I have a torque wrench showing 5 unit increments. Andrej
  3. Many thanks to all responders. This puts my worries to rest. In the absence of any mechanical issues, which are nonexistent, the odor indeed appears to come from tires heating up due to their large surface and "roadholding". I assume the odor would be less pronounced with traction control turned off, but I do not intend to experiment any further. Thanks again.
  4. I have a 2005 997 Carrera coupe. I drive the car regularly. I've noticed that there is quite a bit of rubber-like smell coming from the rear end after I park the car in my garage. I had the car recently serviced (including the clutch replacement) and they did not see anything suspect going on. I attribute this to the smell coming from rear tires. I drive in a fairly spirited fashion and dependent upon how fast I go and the type of the road, the smell from rear tires can be pretty strong, but goes away quickly. Has anyone else made a similar observation. I had app. 12K on my Michelins PS2 and I just replaced them with Michelin Porsche approved winter tires and of course, I noticed a similar smell. Has anyone made a similar observation? I'm a bit concerned driving on an Autobahn this summer at higher speeds (130+ MPH). I did not have any issues during my long trips (400-500 miles/trip) last summer, however this was all done in the US, driving between 70-85 MPH. Any advice/opinion would be appreciated.
  5. I would like to obtain the instructions to change the cabin filter on my car (MY05, C2). Many thanks in advance.
  6. Same here. Have a 2005, 5sp with 38k on the odometer. I use it for my daily commute (90 miles total), mostly highway. I never go easy on my car. No issues whatsoever, except a few minor rattles around the dashboard area (depends on the road surface). I enjoy my car, that's all I can say and it's a blast to drive.
  7. I'm looking for an extra set of Porsche 911 (2005, C2) wheels to be mounted with winter tires. I came across various sites on the Internet, in particular the seller on E-Bay (wheelsandcaps) is selling a complete set for $479 plus $85 shipping. These are replicas and they have the same dimensions and offset as my original wheels (18x8/10). When I called them, they explained they are cast-alloys made in Italy. Does anyone have any experience with these particular "E-Bay" wheels. I came across a similar looking cast-alloy model on other web sites, however they are charging app. $500 per wheel. I was also explained by another wheel specialist that cast-alloy is softer material but easier to fix than the original wheels made from forged steel. However, it is not clear to me whether there are any safety risks with cast alloy material when driving Porsche at higher speed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I decide which way to go. Should I go instead to my local dealer and order the wheels from them? I attached the link and the pic of the wheel under question. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...;category=43958
