  1. A lot of info already out there on this issue. If you're interested here is my experience (2002 986...) I tolerated pushing down my driver side for about a year, then the passenger side stopped dropping also :( I had reviewed the "how too's" in the links above in preparation and decided to have a go on a slow January weekend... After removing both door panels I played with the slack on both sides and the "zip tie" method seemed to be working good in my scenario. So, the driver side lasted about two months, I could tell when working on it that it was in much worse shape that the passenger side to begin with. I too wasn't hyped about paying $250+ so I bought the $100 one on ebay. Installed it a couple months ago and is functioning as expected. As a side note, I do use the passenger door every day as I place and retrieve my laptop bag from that side. So far working perfect with the zip tie fix. If you enjoy taking things apart this is an easy "do it yourself".
  2. Fixed, don't know why i didn't just keep going larger, never guessed it would be 5mm. thx again....
  3. Thanks Loren, obviously master of the search on your forum. I have the tools, back to it, thx again...
  4. All, My 02 has the rear trunk switch pushed down into the rocker panel cavity (please don't ask how, just need to fix it...lol). I have a parts catalog with all drawings but cannot figure out how to remove this door sill trim piece? At each end it has barbed fasteners, I removed the two plugs facing the seat that seem to access two internal fasteners, but cannot figure what head type these are. I have attempted allen hex, star and phillips to no avail, I have nut drivers down to 6mm and it does not even fit through the plugged hole. Am I accessing the correct fasteners to remove this? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Paul
  5. Thanks all for the replies. Gotta love Renntech. This was an easy fix and the tutorial was priceless. From some of the older comments I think I saved hundreds. $22 for the part shipped to the house, 25 minutes to replace. The most difficult part is getting enough grip/torque on a small screwdriver to loosen/tighten the two screws. Headlamp flashlight required!!! Also some pain relievers for the backache... hahaha Thanks again everyone at Renntech. Paul
  6. Thanks for the link Loren. I did notice this post has been running for 7 years. Awesome there are still has moderators like you paying attention. We have owned the 02 Boxster for just year now and I do enjoy doing the maintenance myself. These are actually fun to work on. This issue maybe not so much, but what has to be done must be done. haha Thanks again, Paul
  7. Thanks all for the feedback. I'm sure I can repair this myself. My main concern was not having to re-key the car. Now, on to search for the "how to".
  8. All, This just started within one engine shutdown. The igntion switch is very stiff, no definitive positions from on, start, off etc... When removing the key, if at all possible, the systym does not lock in the "off" position". When removing the key it does not (sorry for the bad description) "clunk" in the off state. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to insert the key back into the ignition switch. Guess i realize this switch toast... Just looking for some advice if its user replaceable keeping the same keys??? thanks in advance for any help. Paul
  9. Try 1042 or 1040 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST I double checked the serial# before coming back to reply, the radio info is correct. I tried 1040, 1042, 1038, 1044, 1039 and 1041 - no luck. 11. Looks like lots of folks in this same situation. Just picked up a 2002 Boxster, (Toyota) dealer installed a new battery, no code in any of the manuals. Appreciate the help in advance. CDR220 4462 s/n 15075446
