  1. Mike, I bought a 2001 2.7 Boxster last summer, and although it was shifting fine, I decided to changer the transmission oil. I went with the Amzoil 75/90 and ever since the car is difficult to to get into 1st and 2nd gear until the engine warms up a little. It's a little annoying, but I'm living with it. Next time I'll go with the Mobile One. I'm assuming that's what was in there before, but all I know is that the car had been maintained by the porsche dealer up until I bought it. Geoff
  2. Update: So without making any changes or tests on electricals, I decided to try to start the car this morning. This time when I cranked it, I held the throttle down to the floor... continued to crank... released throttle....continued to crank....pushed throttle to foor and held.... then VROOM! (took about 10-12 seconds of cranking). After it started, it sounded normal and I drove it around with no problems. Plenty of power, and smooth idling. I drove it straight to my Porsche mechanic, turned it off and discussed the starting problem with him. He suggested that it may have been flooded, and caused cylinder washout. I have never heard of this, but I guess the fuel would wash the oil from the rings as it sat. Then the morning it didn't start, the compression was reduced, making the engine spin as though the starter wasn't even engaging. I know that the day before it didn't start, I did a cold start, moved the car about 50 ft, turned it off, started it again after about 30 min, and then parked it. Maybe this had something to do with it. Anyway, I hope the problem is gone. Thanks for the help as always! I'll update in a few days and let you guys know if things are still ok. Geoff
  3. It turns out that there's some posts with the same problem, but their fuel pumps checked out ok. One guy said, the problem fixed itself. Another said that he depressed the accelerator pedal all the way and it started up. I know that the spark plugs are hard to get to, so I'll try again tomorrow to start it, and see what happens.
  4. 2001 Manual Boxster 2.7 (81.000 miles): The other day, went for a cold start and engine cranked a few times and then sounded like starter disengaged. I initially replaced the battery, and when that didn't change anything, I felt the most logical thing to do would be to replace the starter. That job was fairly easy, but when I went to crank the engine, it did the same thing. Turns out that the starter is turning the engine over (my friend placed his hand over the exaust pipe and felt air coming out), but it's almost as though there's no compression. The car was running perfectly up until I had this problem. I don't hear anything horrible when I turn the key, the engine just seems to spin without any restriction/compression. Just before this problem happened, I washed the car and immediately parked it. Maybe it's an electrical problem? Any help or ideas would be appreciated! Geoff
  5. It is really hard to get an accurate measurement, but I am temped to try again and really pay super attention this time around. I don't think Amsoil could be the one to blame. If I do decide to drain a bit out assuming I've over filled and it shifts better when cold, I will make a big announcement. I'll bet there's a ton of Boxsters out there that have had the oil level right up to where it comes out of the fill hole. I'm wondering if the the difference in weight of oil between 11mm below and to the top of the fill hole, plays a role. Too much and gizmos don't glide as freely?? or move easily enough?? Geoff
  6. I have recently changed my 01 Boxster's manual transmission oil with Amsoil 75/90, and now I am experiencing some difficulty shifting until the car warms up. It takes a bit more effort now to get the car into 1st and 2nd gear until it warms up, and then it seems fine. Before I changed the oil, it had no problems. I probably should have left it alone. I knew about the 11mm from the edge level, but I don't know if I was perfect. The car may not have been perfectly level, and so I'm afraid that I have too much in there. I did spill some oil during the procedure so I can't really guage how much from what is left in the bottles either. Am I damaging the tranny by leaving it alone if it is indeed over filled? I am considering re-checking my work now all over again and draining some oil if the level is too high. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Try 4600 or 4598 If you have not already read this FAQ - please do so... Lost Radio Code - FAQ, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST Hi Loren, Tried 4600 and 4598, but no luck. Any others I can try? Really appreciate the help. Geoff Please read the FAQ. 4602 Worked! Thanks so much!! Geoff
  8. After changing my transmission oil with Amsoil 75/90, my shifting went from good to worse. After my car is warmed up, it shifts fine. I am worried that I have over filled my transmission. It was difficult for me to measure the 11mm below the edge of the fill hole, and I may have put too much it. My car may not have been perfectly level either. So, my question is am I damaging the transmission if it is indeed over filled? I am thinking about re checking my work all over again, and making sure that the oil level is exact, draining a little oil as it may be critical for smooth shifting cold and hot. This is the nicest car I've ever had and I don't want to damage the transmission.
