I'm wondering if I can replace the rear subwoofer speaker assembly with a the storage bin. The Bose stereo system isn't that great anyway and I am thinking I might rather have the storage space. The subwoofer assembly comes out with 4 quarter turn screws leaving just the carpet in the back. I assume that cars without the upgraded stereo have a storage unit in its place. Does it fit like the subwoofer with the 4 quarter turn screws? If it does just pop in like that - does anyone have a storage bin for sale?

I've had the 3M clear bra on my Jeep hood since 1995 and can highly recommend it. No yellowing, no peeling. I'd give it a 10 out of 10. Decided not to put it on the Boxster because I was going way over budget getting the S. Probably should have.....

951 Steering Wheel Replacement

I did this on my '89 Turbo. Removed the steering wheel and passenger airbags. Then the airbag light and the ! light came on. I did some searching on the forums (probably Pelican) and found a post where someone cut the signal wire. I double checked by looking at the wiring diagram for an '89 and cut the wire under the passenger side dash. If I remember it was the orange wire but you better check before you cut anything. Neither light comes on now. When I pull the parking brake lever the ! light comes on so hopefully it will come on for other errors as well. Hope this helps BTW: Air bags are for sale if anyone needs them. -

Boxster owners don't do this! During a drive last weekend I put a couple of sweaters on the back deck area (with the top up). Later, while at a stop light I decided to lower the top. I forgot about the sweaters back there. Just as the top was closing I heard a snap sound. The socket portion broke off from the actuating arm on each side. The local dealer says I have to buy the entire arm with socket at $60 per side. But the white plastic socket portion is threaded onto the end of the arm. It sure looks like it is meant to be adjusted. I'm glad the Porsche engineers designed a component to break before bending something. But it seems strange that I can't just get the broken plastic part. Is there a part number for this piece? The Illustration number is 811-12 part number 4. I need the fitting shown on the left end of arm #4. Thanks! Contadino

I just brought my '05 to the dealer today to have them look at the vents (3 of 4 have failed). The tech said he was going to order replacement vents as well because they usually break when taken out - even with the proper tool. FYI for you do-it-yourselfers!

2005 Boxster S: I would like to be able to turn just the fog/driving lights on without also turing on the side marker lights and tail lights. Does anyone else wish they could do this? Any ideas on how to do it? A wiring diagram would help if anyone has one. I did a similar mod on another car and use it all the time. Thanks!

I have an '05 987S. Got the 18" wheels due to potholes in my area and am very happy so far. Got the heated seats - great! Also got the auto climate control - not worth 10 bucks IMHO. I got the sport steering wheel but after driving with it - I really don't like it. The bumps at 10:00 and 2:00 bug me after a while. I listened to both standard and Bose systems - there's no question - if you plan to listen to CDs go with the Bose. Windstop can be added later but I'm glad I got it.

Water spots

One thing you might want to try is 3M Clay-bar. It works great for removing water spots from paint and windows. The detailer at the local Mercedes dealer turned me onto this. He prefers 3M over the other brand (McGuires I think). GT Parts had it in my area. You use a little piece of it with water or water/soap. If the surface is clean you can reuse it again. But if it picks up any grit or sand (or if you drop it on the ground) you have to throw it away. Good luck -
I read that one of the improvements for 2006 is the ability of the CD player to play MP3s. Does anyone know if there is any way to upgrade a 2005? That's one thing I miss in the Boxster. Ciao !
