  1. Hello everyone. Once in a while when I come to traffic lights my car seems to "load-up" with fuel, The longer the light, the shakier it gets. Light turns green, it stumbles until you "clear out" excess fuel. And when you get on it a little, there is a strong smell of rich fuel, and smoke out of the exhaust. When its running perfect there is never any smoke out the exhaust. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks... Rick

    EDIT: Sorry wrong forum... 928!!!

  2. Jim thanks so much for the info. The car has no-loss in power and runs great except for a low-idle when hot.

    Thanks again...

    Rick,

I know way more about cam adjuster problems that I want to.  It was the biggest problem to overcome when I swapped a 3.6L X51 into my 99.

If your cam timing adjuster is actually bad it will be obvious.  Put the car in a gear where is won't accelerate too fast.  Floor it and see what happens around 5800 rpms.  If your cams don't switch, you will loose 50 or 60 hp.  It should be obvious.

Assuming that the car accelerates fine, you probably have a sensor problem.  That's good news.  There is a sensor on each side that reads a little disk on the end of one of the cams.  I can't remember if it's intake or exhaust.  I would guess that it is giving a bad reading.  Just a guess though.

    Good luck,

    Jim

  3. Paul, I bought my 99 this past March. 43K, I did purchase the extended waranty from Western General. It cost me $3,600 for 3 yrs or 36 k. So far I have used it once for a dealer replacement mass air flow. I have a $100 deductable and Westen paid the difference, no questions asked. Good luck !

My daily driver, 1999 996 C2 coupe tiptronic, with 73k miles... Is there an extended warranty available and if so what has been your experience with them?

    Pro's vs. Cons?

    Paul

  4. Odd that they didn't catch both since the DME stores all codes not just the last one. P1539 should not have anything to do with a MAF failure. What was the previous code?

    P1539 Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 2

Fault Conditions: Actuator triggered, no active position.

    Fault Area:

    - Open circuit in triggering wire.

    - Open circuit in B+ supply.

    - Actuator faulty.

Loren. thanks for the response. The tech said that the new code 1539 did not show up the day before. When it failed inspection it showed mass air flow only???

    Thanks for any help...

    Rick
