  1. Hey guys,

I am not here to step on any toes but I had some time these last few days so I updated the How-To Section of one of my sites with short usefull articles in regards to simple things.

I am going to continue doing these how-to's but nothing too in-depth, that is what I am at renntech for.

Either way enjoy them and email me and tell me if they helped!

I hope I am not steping on any toes Loren. Just trying to be helpfull.

    Regards Guys.

  2. I have a sset of 19x11 Techarts on my Narrow Body cab. 315's in the back. Car is lowered quite a bit using Techart Suspension components and it does not rub. Car looks pretty mean. 305's I have no doubt that they will fit. Take a look at my car pic if you wish.

    My Cab...

    Hope this helps.

    Folks,

I am toying with the idea of changing my wheels on my car. The wheels I am considering are the Kinesis F110's (http://www.kinesismotorsport.com/f110.htm)

The sizes are 19x11 rear with 305x25x19- tires and 19x8.5 front with 225x30x19. The rear tires seem wide for a narrow body 996 but they swear they fit.

I am looking for some general feedback as to whether this is a good move or not. I really like the wheels but do have some concerns about ride, as I expect it to be a bit more rough and also the ride height. In other words, would I need to lower my car to make it look right? I would rather not.

What do you folks think? Also, can you provide me with any pictures of a narrow body 996 with 19's on it that has NOT been lowered.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jay

  3. Hello,

Since I have basically given up all hope in finding a 99 Speedo for my car I am ready to take on rebuilding one myself.

Does anybody have a diagram showing me what all the pins are for a 1999 C2 Cabriolet 6SPD and Auto.

I have a 1999 TIP Speedo which I am going to do surgery on.  It has gotta work.

Any thoughts Loren?  Will a Tip Speedo work on a 6spd.  I just need it in KPH, that is all, I dont care if the stupid auto bar is on the gauge.

    Help!

    TIA.

Perfect Loren. That is a great help.

  5. Hello,

I am working on a 2000 Boxster S with 40,000 miles on the clock. The CEL came on and I had a mechanic pull the code and he got an EVAP code, don't know the exact number. He told me there was a massive air leak somewhere in the system.

We proceeded to do a smoke test to see where the leak was but instead the smoke just came out of the vent near the rear spoiler.

    2 things...

1.) Is this not supposed to be a closed loop system? Why is there a vent?

2.)Where do I go now, is there a common problem with these cars? This CEL is driving me crazy.

    Thanks,

    Raymond

  6. Greetings Raymond,

Thank you for taking the time to help out.  I really appreciate it.  Can you tell me where you bought the 3m tape?  Also, did you think the install was difficult?  Something to be left to the body shop or is this something that can be accomplished by DIY.

    Regards,

    JOhn

The 3M Tape can be bought at any Body Shop Supply store or any serious auto parts store.

The install is quite easy. If I remember correctly you purchased the OEM skirts and not fiberglass replica's. These are quite easier to install. The fiberglass ones require fitting and re-fitting. Let the body shop handle those.

In your case, if you know how to handle a Philips screwdriver and can spend a few hours on your car, you will find it quite enjoyable to do it yourself. This is not really difficult at all.

    Good Luck,

Post if you need more help.

  7. I did some research on this for a while as I was trying to find a set of 19's on my cab. Since my cab is really not the fastest car on the planet I opted for looks instead.

I purchased 19x11 Techart Formula's with a 315/25/19 Continental tire. The car is also lowered with a Tecahrt 35mm drop Lowering kit. It is a lot of tire and weight to lug around but ti fits with no problems. The total overall diameter of the wheel and tire aree approx. 3mm more than a stock 285 on an 18 inch rim.

  8. Hello,

New Porsche owner here, just got a 1999 996 a couple of weeks ago.  Been reading a lot of posts here, great site.  I was wondering if the Gen 1 aero sideskirts can be installed with just double sided tape rather than epoxy.  I prefer to do this unless for some reason this type of install is not recommended.  I purchased a new factory set on ebay that did not include hardware (screws and clips.) Do I still need to purchase these if I use double sided tape.  Thanks in advance.

                                                                                            John

    Hello John,

I am no expert in the install of this kit however I did just go through the exact ordeal you are going through.

There are many ways to install the kit but this is what I recommend for ease of install. The factory install guide shows having to buy a mounting rail and having to drill it into the rocker panel using self tapping screws. I completely bypassed this operation because I wanted a safety net. I wanted to be able to remove the skirts at any point without having holes in my rocker panel.

    This is what I did,

In any case you have to buy the screws, the spacers and the clips. This will ensure a tight fit at the bottom of the skirt. At the top of the skirt where it meets the gravel guard on the rocker just use 3m double sided tape. Make sure it is 3m because it has a fairly tight hold. The key to this install is mounting the clips in the right position and pre-fitting the skirts before you have them painted to ensure it is a nice fittment. I failed to do the latter and had to have mine repainted.

Part Numbers for the parts are as follows:

    18 x 999-507-640-09 Clamps

    22 x 999-073-060-02 Retaining Screws

    16 x 944-503-255-00 Spacers

This is all I needed to install the skirts. They fit excellent and they are not going anywhere.

    Hope this helps.

  9. So it is a beautiful day in Vancouver, finally have time to get my aero kit to the body shop. Throw it in the ML and drive down and drop it off.

    So far so good...

I go grab the 996 to go down to the body shop so they can match the paint, stop at starbucks to get a TEA, yes, a tea. Going down the hill to my body shop, thinking to myself, wow the car is running great...

Air bag light pops on! WTH? Out of all things, the air bag light? Can anybody tell me why? Lead me faithfull 996 owners!

Thanks for the read. I know, stupid story but still.

    Raymond

  10. Wolfgang, you have made my day. I was reading the install instructions and was thinking that drilling was not my thing, just another thing that can lead to rust.

This is what confuses me, does that aluminum strip go on the rocker panel or the weld seam below the car?

Can anybody tell me what part numbers I need for screws and attachments or should I just go off the PET and buy each piece one by one? It has to be easier than that, there must be a kit.

    Thanks Again Wolfgang...

  11. Hello Again,

Anyway, my second question has to do with factory 996 Speedo Units. I recently purchased a 996 from the United States and I wanted to put a Canadian Speedo in it and I purchased a couple from wreckers here and there.

I installed 1 or two wrong ones and finally I purchased one that was exactly my year with my plugs and etc. The Kms were off but I figured I could reset them.

My question is this, when I installed the unit, it seemed everything was fine until I started driving it. The ABS Light did not go out and the low brake fluid light also did not shut off. To make matters worse, it did not register my speed or count the mileage. And lastly, when I shut the car off and locked the doors, the three main lcd screens in the speedo remained lit, no information just lit up and wouldn't go out even after 30-45 mins.

Now my question is this, do I have the wrong speedo unit or is there something I did not do correctly?

Is there something I have to reset and can do or do I have to go to the dealer and pay the 100 plus dollars an hour to have them code something?

My biggest issue is that I don't want it to be the wrong speedo and the dealer charges me the amount anyway. Is there a quick fix to this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Last question, if this is a dealer thing as all items seem to be (My last issue was remote programming) is there a place to buy the unit that Porsche uses to do all this? I used to have an S2000 and I purchased a Honda handheld and did it all myself. This would be great for the Porsche as I plan to hold on to these cars for a long time.

    Thanks Again!

  12. Hello!

This may be my first post so be gentle. I have purchased a Aerokit and it did not have any of the fasteners that I need to install the side skirts.

Can anybody tell me first off exactly what I need and the part numbers/quantity, and/or if there is an install kit I can buy from Porsche that includes everything I need?

    I have a 99 C2 Cabriolet and itis a 6speed.

Anything you can tell me would help. If anything can somebody direct me to a competant parts person?

Thanks for all your help in Advance.

    Raymond
