  1. Paul- Well I got 12.82 volts at both ends so it looks good. Thanks for the tip.
  2. Ok I thought this was with car running. I'll give it a shot. I guess I could test the resistance as well and see what that shows. Getting to the back of that alternator is nuts, now I see why you use the pin method. Thanks
  3. Paul- If there is a draw on the system from lights, CPU modules etc. won't that knock down the number of volts that get to the battery?
  4. A known problem on early 997's is the main power cable. Does anyone know where/how to check the cable for resistance? On Rennlist there's a thread on an owner's fried cable.
  5. Thanks Guys, have to check out the Excellence article. BTW, how many miles is an AOS good for?
  6. No the cap came off fine no problem. Will there be a check engine warning if the suction gets too high? Possibly an AOS problem?
  7. I took off my oil cap while the engine was warmed up and idling (there was a hissing noise coming from the tube) and I covered the fill tube with a small piece of cardboard and the crankcase suction held the cardboard like it was taped on. Note that when I took off the cap the engine faltered a little and RPMs dropped a few, when I put the cardboard on the fill tube the idle came right back up. Is it normal to have suction this strong? I read in another thread that this suction is not a good thing and it should be looked into. On my DD's (volvo's) I can put pieces of paper over the fillers and it barely holds them on. One of the cars has no suction at all, in fact it has a little bit of pressure pushing out. Thanks
  8. I was using Syntec 5-40 but now Castrol has eliminated Syntec and has a new oil called Edge in two versions - Edge with Syntec Technology and Edge Titanium. I don't think they have a 5-40. So, is 10-40 too heavy for the M96 engine? I assume these oils are approved by Porsche.. Thanks
  9. Ok thanks Loren. If you run across the procedure please let me know.;)
  10. Thanks for that. Can it be replaced without removing the trans or lowering the engine? I looked around on the sites but found no procedure for it. I did find Boxster instructions. I assume in the 911 there's no way to get to the upper part of the engine without lowering it, in other words the interior panels aren't removable to get to the engine because structural steel panels are welded there.
  11. On Rennlist an owner had an AOS issue with his 05 997. My question is, is the AOS the same thing as the "oil mist collector" which is what I see in Porsche Docs? Also, how long can one expect this part to remain functional before the need to proactively change it out? :thankyou:
  12. According to the online manual you can tilt the lump down about 25 mm IIRC which gives acces to the bolts. Hope you have support equipment!
  13. Try this link. One of the best. http://www.danieljacobsllc.com/ They are in Oxford CT.
  14. Was wondering if anyone knows if there is a poster sized exploded view of the M96 engine available anywhere. Any leads appreciated. Thanks
  15. Sometimes at speed my driver's door whistles in the area of the mirror. Would this fix be covered by a CPO? Thanks
  16. Couple of questions, is there a source that you can find the build date of your engine by the engine number? The other question is, where is the engine number stamped and is it in an easily visible area?
  17. I have found P21S wheel cleaner (not the gel type, just the regular type) used with a scrub stick to be the best brake dust remover out there. I haven't used it on my 997 yet but I have some volvos that get excessive dust and it works great. But if the dust is 'baked on' or pitted into the alloy good luck. i don't know anything that removes that. maybe someone else knows the answer.
  18. Is the front bumper completely hollow at the license plate area or is it filled with some substance to absorb impact. I'm mulling over mounting 'L' brackets for license plate under the uppermost lip about 3/4" in and wondering if there is anything inside the bumper to screw into (besides the plastic of the bumper) for rigidity & grip.
  19. Going to bleed the brake soon. Anyone know how many ounces total to bleed from each caliper. Not using the blue Ate. Also, how much should I expel from the clutch slave/master cylinders? Thanks.
  20. I've looked thru all the docs that came with this car but it gives no info on spark plugs. I'd like to buy them before I start the job. Anyone know the OEM plugs & gap for a 2005 997 C2 3.6? Thanks.
  21. My 2005 997 c2 has the indent with the composite material on the underside under the hood subframe as well.
