  2. Hi all, I have a question that has been circulating for a few months now so I thought I'd pose it here to see what you guys thought. Having never kept a car this long before and done so many kilometers in it, 110k, I was wondering how long I can realistically expect to keep using it on a day-to-day basis before it starts falling apart and key components start to fail that start costing a large amount to fix. I do around 30k kilometers per year driving to and from work and or holidays etc and a couple of track days here and there but in general it is not abused regularly. Can I expect another seven or eight years of daily use or am I looking at needing to replace it when it gets to around the ten year mark? I have become very attached to it as a result of the experiences I have had with it and the places I've been so I would be loathe to trade it in unless I had to, or it made overwhelming sense to do so. I know there are people around with 25+ year old Porsches, but I actually use mine as a daily drive so I don't expect it to last that long. I welcome your comments. Thanks in advance! Samuel
  3. Hi all, Just wanted to post this to warn other owners about the outrageous markup charged by dealerships for replacing tyres on the 997.1. My story goes as follows, for Michelin Pilot Sport N2 235/35/19/87Y (fronts on C2S) Porsche Dealership quote - 1100 EUR including fitting. I had them done for 580 EUR including fitting. Now that's over 500 EUR difference on exactly the same raw materials - Michelins. I know they like to markup a little but this one nearly made me choke on my own tongue. I live in France and if anyone wants the website for the tyres its www.pneus-online.fr . They have other sites covering most of Europe including the UK so go have a look before you get a dumb guy in a Porsche suit trying to stick his finger up your bum for the privilege of entering his showroom. Oh and he also told me that the new 991 was 'nothing like' the current 997. By this time I was finding it hard to restrain myself from physically attacking him and had to beat a hasty retreat. Samuel
  4. Wow, it looks like you have the same problem that I do, even down to the thing rectifying itself when the engine gets warm. For me if there is a traffic jam and the air/parts around the engine warm up then the problem always goes away without exception but will re-manifest iteslf one the traffic clears and the airflow around the engine cools down again. Although I am sorry to hear that you have this wonderful feature too, it's nice to hear of someone else who has it as I've never heard of any other owner having this issue. If you get anywhere finding a solution or you want me to test something on my car to help the investigation please let me know. Sam

Hi there, My C2S MY2006 has had the same fault for around three years now and after changing the temperature sensor and numerous other visits to the dealership including a coolant change the indicator still goes on when it's wet or the temperature is less than around 20C. If it's the same fault as mine then it's a non-fault, the temperature is fine it's just the reading of the temperature that doesn't work sometimes. However I would get it checked out as for you it may be an indicator of a more serious problem, especially if you had the check engine light on when you bought it.   6. Hi all, wondering if you can help. A few weeks ago my drivers side window had a bit of a malfunction and started to lower the back part of the window without lowering the forward part, resulting in a twisted part opened window that then refused to move in either direction up or down. Using the first rule of repairs to anything technical I applied brute force to return it to the up position, whilst simultanteously pressing the window up button. And now it's cured, goes up and down without problem. However, the slight window drop that occurs when you start to open the door only happens for the back part, I have to sort of pull or push down the front section by hand each time. Perhaps it is a friction issue, and so my question is, can I just spray loads of WD40 down the gap in between the window and the seal? Hopefully someone else has experienced this and can help me out.   9. Hi all, Just a quick question, I am looking for a good polish that will give the car a decent shine and hide some of the surface scratches that appear from daily use. I don't want to go crazy and hunt down the sacred sweat of a beetle only found in the amazon rainforests, I just want a standard polish that I can pick up locally and it will give me good results. Eg Turtlewax or something like that? So, what's reasonably priced, reasonable available and perfect for a 997-1 MY06? Thanks in advance! Sam

  11. Hi there, Wonder if anyone can help, I'm looking for high quality images from the original 997-1 brochure. There was a specific two page foldout image side-on of a silver C2S that I want to get hold of and print onto canvas. If anyone can help that would be great, I appreciate any help! Sam
  12. Not that I know of! It was serviced and came back with a scuff mark on the outside of the wheel where someone obviously scuffed/kicked it with their foot getting in or something but I can't see that being the issue, the wheel/column is pretty sturdy. I was told not to use WD40 on it by the guy in the dealership when I showed him the issue and the scuff mark! I don't want to destroy any rubber seals or anything, not that I know what I am talking about, I just read that somewhere :)

Hi all, Just had my C2S MY 2006 returned from a service and there is now a squeak coming from the base of the steering column around about where it leaves the driver footwell and passes through into the front compartment. I took it back to the stealership who said not to worry about it but I find it a bit annoying and I can only thing it just needs a bit of grease or lubricant. The noise comes when you turn the wheel in either direction. Has anyone else had this issue or have any idea for a safe lubricant I can use? I fear that if I book it in to get fixed the stealership will charge me thousands to take apart the whole steering column and apply a 5 EUR tube of grease. Much as I love paying them to stand around smoking while they charge me 140 EUR per hour I would prefer a simpler solution if anyone has one! Thanks in advance, Sam

  15. Hi all, just a follow up question. I'm nearly two months into my ban now and am back in France. I have private parking, so the car is safe, however is it ok to leave the car for two months more without running it, without the battery going flat? Or, should I get my friend to take me for a spin in it - he is insured. I know you can get these kind of trickle chargers but for two months is it really necessary. Or, should I just start the engine every couple of weeks and let it idle for 15 minutes? I only ask because I had a battery go flat on me before, and the car is very difficult to deal with in that state, especially in an underground car park. Thanks! Sam
  16. Hmm, that's strange, I've never heard or seen of one being down where you describe. Maybe somebody else on this forum knows how to get to this sort of CD changer location? There is another compartment down there that holds the tow ring and emergency tyre inflator but I think you are talking about something further to the left hand side of that. French police, hey, these things happen, it was well overdue to be honest. Have to be more careful now, maybe stopped a potential accident in the future, who knows! I'm back in London now, so I am driving again, I'll just keep the car over here until August...

  18. I think that would give you a good starting point, if it works like that, you can be pretty certain it was upset by the iPod unit. To get to the unit that holds the CD changer and the DVD drive for the navigation, you will need to pull off the thick plastic seal that seals the boot when closed, and then remove around 8-10 screws that hold in the inner plastic structure, which you can then remove. Once this has been done you can get better access to the unit, which you can then just pull forwards towards the front of the car and then get to the back and replace the MOST cable. I've done this a few times, my last iPod interface module packed up and so upset the MOST loop, and it is very easy, takes around 15 minutes. I may not have the correct terminology for the actual parts I describe, but you should get the idea. Oh, and don't worry about exclamation marks against items in the system menu for the PCM, 5 out of 6 of mine are like that and all works fine. I think this happens if versions found are not what is expected or been programmed to be expected using the PIWIS Sam
  19. Hi all, I have been toying for a while with the idea of getting some genuine turbo wheels for my black C2S. This could serve two purposes, I could give the car a fresh look, and in the meantime get my standard ones refurbished, since they need it after doing 80k miles. So, I have a question, if I get some wheels off ebay and drive to the place to pick them up/have them fitted, will I be able to put all the other wheels with tyres in the car itself, or would I have to go with a friend with a decent sized boot? Additionally, is there anything I should be aware of when buying second hand wheels and tyres from ebay? How can I check that they are genuine porsche, and can I trust the vendor to fit them properly with the correct torsion on the wheelnuts etc? Your comments or experiences would be appreciated, Many thanks! Sam
  20. Got 4 months. Bit harsh apparently, but probably because I drive in France with a UK licence = points don't carry over to UK so always clean licence.
  21. iPod you say, well as number9ine says, this is aftermarket. I have one and if I disconnect the MOST cable from the back, I get exactly the same error as you do. What they did for mine was to just take the MOST from the CD changer and stick this into the iPod unit. So, maybe test and see if this is what has been done to yours, and if so then stick it back in the CD changer and maybe it will work again. Then you know there is an issue with the iPod unit you have. HTH Sam
  22. Thanks for all your replies, I will let you know the extent of the ban/fine when I hear through the post. I saw that Lewis Hamilton was caught doing nearly 200kmh in northern France, and received a one month ban and small fine, however he was in a 130 limit, not 90 like I was! Got a friend who is coming to drive the car back to England at the weekend, so I can use it again over there (I hold a UK license, so it's only a ban in France).
