  1. Just lost my license here in France, not sure for how long, they will decide that in the next few days. Could be up to 6 months, and being English I can imagine that's what I am looking at. Plus a fine of up to 750 Euros. Be interested in anyone else who's had a similar experience.....and maybe this reminder will stop somebody else from doing the same!! Now I have a very expensive paperweight sitting outside my apartment.....
  2. Hi all, Just thought I'd drop a note on here to say how absolutely delighted I am with my car, after 4.5 years of running and 78k km, it just gets better and better. As you can probably tell, I use it every day, and yes, people have scratched it, vandalised it, perpetually bump it when parking, spat on it, and other associated consequences of taking it wherever you go. But it still looks amazing, starts first time every time, drives like a dream, and amazes all those who ride as passengers. I have no idea how many kilometers it will do (I guess I will find out) but when it eventually dies I'll get another and run that as much as I can too. And for the money, I still think there is no better car! Sam MY06 C2S Bassalt/Stock
  3. Hi all, Just wanted to know if there was anyone else who had this fitted, as mine has packed up and has taken the navigation stuff with it, being on the MOST loop. I sent the product back to NAV TV who allegedly upgraded the software, however it still doesn't work properly. (Reports no Ipod, no way of controlling from PCM). I am thinking of binning it and getting a Mostbridge, but first I'd like to know if it is worth them replacing it as they have offered, or go down the refund route. Does anyone have positive experiences with this? Thanks in advance, Sam
  4. Thanks for your responses Loren and vizcarra44. I have to ask, where is the coolant switchover/shuttoff valve, where can I find it on the car, I presume it is on the underside of the vehicle, is it normally accessible or do I need to remove something. Diagram would be great if possible...... Also noticed that you called it the shutoff valve, not the switchover valve, I guess maybe it's the same thing? Thanks, I can then test as per Loren's reply. Sam
  5. Hi all, I have really come up against a brick wall for this, can anyone help me with what I need to do next? From Loren's post, I would like to get to the bottom of P1654, with the three possible causes being (i) Short circuit to B+ in control line (ii) Coolant switch-over valve faulty (iii) DME issue. I am pretty sure it is not the third, in fact I suspect it is the first, as it is intermittent, however it is possible that the valve itself is faulty intermittently. So......could anyone point me in the direction of how to test for either the short circuit, or advise on how to test if possible or check to see if it's the faulty valve. I am willing to get under/around the car if necessary with an electrical testing kit etc, but I need a bit of help on where to start. For example, where/what is the B+ control line, and how do I get to it and what should I be testing for. I appreciate that this may be a complex issue, but a pointer in the right direction would be helpful if anyone has the time! Thanks! Sam MY06 3.8S
  6. Thanks for this, can you tell me where to look? Guess I need to jack up the car?
  7. Hi Loren, thanks again for the input. I've had a look at the 'actual values' section of the Motronic DME but there appears to be no information on sensor values. Temperatures are all as expected though, engine, coolant, oil, transmission. I did something interesting today, I cleared down all faults and queried for faults as I drove along. The first to appear was the P1654, which seemed to trigger the other. Hence I think that if we can sort out the P1654 then perhaps all the others will go away too. From your original post you said this was probably one of three possible reasons: 1. Short circuit to B+ in control line 2. Coolant switch-over valve faulty 3. DME control module faulty 1 Appears to me to be the most likely, judging by the fact that it is intermittent, and temperature/humidity related. Could you possibly help point me in the direction of how to test for this, and subsequently how to get it resolved? As ever I much appreciate your help! Sam
  8. Hi Loren, Once i get the intermittent issue with the coolant temperature gauge there are two error codes/messages: P3081 - Coolant temperature implausible P1654 - Coolant shut-off valve final stage I attempt to clear them using the durametric software, and the coolant temperature gauge returns to 80 (middle) and the fault exclamation light goes out. However the P1654 remains. Now, this is the strange thing, and may give the best information yet as to what the fault might be: if I leave the car idling the gauge stays at 80 indefinitely. However, when I drive off, after a few miles it will fail again, and give the two errors above. My best idea is that it is something to do with a short somewhere that only becomes an issue at low temperatures, or when low temperature air is operating around a certain area of the car's engine. Once failure has occurred, if I leave the car idling and stationary for 3-4 minutes, it will correct itself and the fault P3081 disappears. Maybe this is because the warm engine is heating up the part of the car that contains the short or whatever, that would otherwise not get warmed up if there was airflow over and under the vehicle. Also, in summer it is never an issue.... Hope this gives more info that could lead someone to be able to help! Sam
  9. Hi all, Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this error to show up when I use the Durametric software to query the ECU errors? Also, I don't seem to be able to clear the error. It is related to the issue with my coolant temperature gauge throwing an error intermittently. I have had the coolant temperature sensor replaced, and coolant system purged and new coolant put throughout. Thanks in advance, I would love to get to the bottom of this before I have to give all my money to the dealership.... Sam
  10. Thanks for your reply Paul, when they changed the sensor they purged the coolant system and put new coolant through the whole thing, so it should be something else rather than that. I'll post a new topic with the error codes, thanks again, Sam
  11. Hi all, I have now had the sensor changed by Porsche, 13 EUR for the part, final bill 240 EUR. I am clearly in the wrong line of work.... However, this has not sorted out the problem, there is a persistent fault on the ECU which reads P1654 - Coolant shut-off valve final stage. Does anyone have any idea what this is, and why it's presence seems to then trigger P3081 - Coolant temperature implausible. I can clear this but it gets triggered again when I drive for a few miles. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate their help, as my dealership clearly is not a cheap option. Thanks! Sam
  12. Hi all, Just wanted some advice on how to clean my alloys after a track day, the normal hot pressure hose doesn't really remove the seemingly burned edges of the wheel's leading face parts.... Thanks in advance! Sam
  13. Dunno if this helps, but here's my overrev information, car being MY06 997 C2 with 75k kilometers, this includes Nurburgring a few times... Number of ignitions range 1 1565 / 1308h Number of ignitions range 2 43 / 871h Number of ignitions range 3 6 / 600h Number of ignitions range 4 0 / 0h Number of ignitions range 5 0 / 0h Number of ignitions range 6 0 / 0h Operating hours counter 1374
  14. Hi Paul, If you use the durametric diagnostics software on it you can see various levels of info regarding over-revs, plus any fault codes that are currently not cleared from any of the engine management or control modules. Just bought one myself, and would recommend it to anyone who even thinks of buying a second hand 997.1+. You can pick up the Enthusiast Version for a few hundred notes and it will save you buying a thrashed car. Also, although the Enthusiast Version only works fully on three cars/VIN's it is purported to allow you to run the over-revs diagnostics on any number of cars. Check out the durametric website... Sam
  15. Fortunately it came off with a product some guys on the ferry back to the UK gave me, however not before I had got an official quote from the local Porsche dealership and submitted that to the local gendarmerie for compensation..... I'm not angry it happened, we all do stupid things sometimes and if some kids learn not to do that at an early age it might prevent them doing something really stupid one day, possibly with not such an easy resolution.
  16. I didn't see a Paris tag on it, apparently it's some local (78 Versailles) muppets. They caught them, as I said, and had their parents into the police station....can't have been fun over Christmas!! Unfortunately these people seem to do the same 'tags' on a lot of things........shops, restaurants, cars, etc. I was not the only one, and it goes to court soon, but being France, it will take around 6 months before anything happens. Then another 2 years before anything happens :)
  17. This happened to me just last month. I've had a couple of 'bad' experiences with my car, but they never outweigh the positives of having it.... Fortunately the local cops picked them up and they will pay for it, but I had to go the the UK for a month with it looking like this!!
  18. Thanks again, I went out to look in the boot (with a torch because it's dark here in France) and as I was looking the police turned up and asked me what I was doing!! Anyway, I couldn't see that part, is it visible from the boot or not? If you can tell me where to look then maybe I can find it! Thanks!
  19. Hi folks, This happens on my car too (997.1 3.8S), especially at the moment as it is very cold here this winter. I think it is purely the fact that the large tyres are cold and not as supple as usual and as such there is slippage when turning at tight angles. I had this last winter and it goes away as soon as the weather changes. I might be wrong but I have had this a few times and I think there is really nothing to worry about. Sam
  20. Ok, thanks for the diagram, excuse my ignorance, but where is this part in the car, guess it is in the back, but is it something I can find easily or is it only really accessible if I remove most of the 3.8 block? Is it near the coolant tank on the left rear, or more likely on the engine somewhere?
  21. Ok, thanks, can anyone point me in the direction of where I might find this on my 997.1? Is it easily accessible, or do I need to be a contortionist with telescopic arms to find it in the tiny space around the engine?
  22. Hi, thanks for your reply, could you give me any more details on what you did? Is it something I can do or do I need to go the dealership to get it done? Thanks!
  23. I have a very strange problem with my car, in that I quite often get a "Failure Indicator" message for the coolant temperature gauge. Now this is not really an problem with the actual temperature of the coolant, more a failure somewhere to do with the sensor or whatever that monitors it. I have been to 2 porsche dealers and they both have no idea what is causing it, one even suggested we change the ECU as this was causing the problem. I don't agree with this opinion to be honest, I suspect it is more a sensor issue. Maybe the dealership were not meeting sales targets that month. It has been happening for over 2 years, so I am not particularly bothered by it, but there are some strange things that may point to it's actual cause. In the summer, it works fine, in the winter it normally doesn't. Once when I was driving it started raining, and immediately it came up. Another time I was stuck in snow and after sitting at idle for around 10 mins it started working again. I am starting to think that it is something to do with moisture on the sensor, but does anyone know anything that might help me get to the bottom of this? Thanks in advance! Sam
  24. Hi there, I have found a discrepancy between what I have on my official documentation, and what I am told from the VIN. The VIN decoded seems to indicate that the car is a 2006, however it says on my documentation that the car's first date of registration was 29/10/2005. If someone can shed some light as to why this might be different then I would be interested. I have the durametric package so that I can see the OBD stuff and the date of most of the electrical modules like the ECU etc appears to be sometime in 2005, but these might just be software versions, or when the components were made/built before being assembled in the car, however they have my correct VIN on them, so maybe they are flashed or whatever once in the car. Again, if anyone has any ideas, I would be interested! Thanks! Sam 997 CS2 Year: TBC :)
