  1. Loren, thanks for the tips. Actually the problem may not be the transmission because the noise comes from the engine area. The reason I said transmission is because that whine sound (or vibration sound) only occurs "once" everytime when I engage the gear lever from P to D/R or N to D/R. No sound at all if the gear lever is moved from D/R to P or D/R to N. After the gear is fully engaged, no noise at all and the transmission is solid like a rock. I am just wondering, for automatic transmission, what components will be activated when moving the gear lever from P or N to D/R? Thanks.
  2. Loren, any suggestion? The whine is from the engine area (only happen when the engine is hot and when engaging the gear from P to D/R or N to D/R). It will only whine once (not continuous) when engaging the gear lever. Do you think the changing of the transmission fluid will cure that noise. Thanks in advance.
  3. I did take the car to OPC. They heard the noise too. They said fluid level is fine, no leak and it is normal for tip to have this whine noise when shifting gears with the gear lever. I have my doubts though.
  4. Is it true that once we move the gear lever (tip) to D or R, a hydraulic pump will be activated to pump fluid to the torque converter? If there is a whine from selecting gears (from N to D or R) then could this be a problem with the hydraulic pump? or a clogged oil filter or a stuck valve? Do you think that the changing of the transmission oil/filter will sort this prob. out?
  5. I am wondering whether anyone here with Tiptronic has experienced some gear whining noises when moving the gear lever from D to R or R to D? Thanks. :help:
  6. Anyone know how much it costs for changing the front mud flaps?
  7. Do you think it can cause damage to the engine if parking the car outside on a rainy day? It seems that water may be able to run into the engine through the air vents on the rear wing.
  8. Is it true that for any servotronic equipped Cayenne, there will be some slight mechanical whining noises when turning the steering wheel left or right at low speed? Does it sounds like the turning of an electric motor? Is this considered as a typical servotronic power steering noise and cannot be avoided?
  9. Have any of you experienced a slight power surge at around 3000rpm? Could this be the variocam like the 996?
  10. Have you heard anything about a potential problem with the PASM set up (bushing issue? - Excellence mag article). The writer thinks that there is lateral "movement" at the rear? Do you think this problem is critical?
  11. Can one remove the pad imprints on the brake rotors (or discs) by adopting the "bedding-in" procedure again? Thanks.
  12. How long does it take to "bed-in" new brakes? 200-300 miles? Before the brakes are fully "bed-in", will they sometimes create slight creaking noises? What is the proper procedure to bed in new brakes? If there are streaks on the surface of the rear brake discs (only the rear discs), could that be rust/dirt/dusts or something is wrong with the discs? Thanks.
  13. Loren, Thanks for the info. Does it requires immediate attention? Since the noise only appear occasionally (not often at all), is it ok to have it fix later? Thanks.
  14. Has anyone experienced a creaking or groaning noise coming from low down in the rear of the car occasionally?
  15. It seems that the regular 997S with PASM use the "Active Brake Differential" and only the sport suspension with -20mm ride height use the LSD. What is the difference between the Active Brake Differential and LSD? Thanks in advance.
  16. Stupid Question - What is the purpose of a limited slip differential (or LSD)? Does the new 997 with PASM has it? What happens to a car if it does not have any differential (or LSD)?
  17. First of all, this sport chrono extra (unlike the x51 option) does not boost the hp of the car. It just make the throttle response a bit more sensitive (and the suspension a bit tighter), right? so without it, the car should still runs the same way (except one may have to push the gas padel further down and change the PASM mode to sport)? Do you agree?
  18. For people who don't track their cars, will they have RMS problem?
  19. Loren, do you know when Porsche will start using the new RMS on the 997? end of 05 or 06?
  20. Is it unusal for power steering to leak? What are the common causes for the leakage? Thanks.
  21. What is the color of the steering fluid? dark green? I've actually found some dark greenish gooey stuff on the garage floor (at the rear end in beteween the exhaust pipes).
