  1. I'm trying to mount my Sparco Evo seats in my 99 996. I want/need to have both 3pt belts and the 6pt as I drive the car daily and a 6pt isn't street legal. The mounts with my Sparco seats are (appear to be) Porsche manual sliders but don't have the bracket to hold on the tunnel side seat belt receptacle. On staring at my power seats, the bracket is part of the lower part of the seat. I was hoping to simple remove my power seat from the mount and the use the bracket with my new seats but no can do. So, does the manual seat mount have a bracket thats separate from the actual seat? If it does, whats the part # for both sides so I can order it and then attach the Sparcos using their brackets to the mount.
  2. The dealer checked the flywheel. Porsche called them this morning suggesting the data points to the drive shaft not being balanced, maybe a weight came off. We won't know till I bring the car in next.
  3. You're on a track, a faster guy behind you wants to pass, you lift to let him by. If I'm doing 90ish in 3rd thats around this RPM. It also happens when zipping in to highway traffic in 2nd, lift to find your slot and then squeeze in. You're holding the RPMs at this point. Not too hard to do this...
  4. They ran all the usual engine tests. They replaced spark plugs, swapped coils around, checked injectors. The PCNA guy was even over looking at it and they don't know whats wrong at this point. Whats the theory with the MAF related to the symptoms?
  5. The car feels perfect, if I taped over the light, I'd never know it came on. Flywheel sensor is a new one, I haven't heard that as a reason so far.
  6. I have a 99 C4 with Tiptronic. I've been getting check engine lights under the following conditions only. Put the car in M, and select 2nd. Accelerate slowly up to around 6.4k rpm and then hold it there. My check engine light comes on after a few seconds. The P-codes are P300 + P301-5. It normally just misfires on 2 and 5 but I've seen misfires on 1-5. I've have the car at the dealer, we've changed the valve lifters and the DME and it's still there. Porsche have given up for now as it's proving very hard to figure out whats wrong. The current theory is that tip retards engine timing as it prepares to shift, my lifting to even throttle at 6.4k upsets it and the retarded timing is what causes a misfire. I'm looking to see if other tiptronics have this problem or is it just me? If you can try it then it'd be interesting to see if this is a design issue or a fault in my car. Billy
  7. If anyone is interested, I uploaded my policy text to http://www.devwebsphere.com/porsche.
  8. I have Blizzk LM22s also. The Porsche tires are still Z rated and as far as I know, you can't make a Z rated tire that works in snow, the compound is wrong. So, the LM22s are rated for 130mph which is plenty fast enough for winter driving...
  9. So, The dealer reproduced the symptoms again today, printed it out on an OBD II with the VIN and is making them come back. Everytime they come, it's 150 bucks for the warranty company. We'll keep dragging them back till they acknowledge a real problem and fix it, make it too expensive to keep screwing us around. Billy
  10. I have the BK bracket and it's fine. It just bolts on to the bracket under the seat. I didn't remove the seat to install it, I used slightly smaller bolts than the ones supplied with the kit and was able to install it just fine with those. The only issue with the BK is that it slightly limits the travel on the seat (mine is a power seat) in terms of how low you can push the seat and how far back the seat will go.
  11. So, The inspector for my 3rd party extended warranty comes to my dealer to approve the lifter replacement. And, of course, the CEL doesn't occur while he drives the car for 21 miles. "Never happened, car is fine". The dealer showed the computer printouts. "But, no serial number, those could be from any car!". So, he called the dealer a liar. Unfrigging believeable. I'm astounded. Yes, we're imagining things. The cars really fine! :cursing: So, I'm leaving the car with the dealer until it happens again and we'll call the bugger back. We'll keep calling him back to he decides we're not lying. Porsche, if you're reading this. Please sell your extended warranties through your dealers. Why do your own dealers have to sell 3rd party warranties on your cars! Anyone any experience dealing with these guys. Billy http://www.billynewport.com
  12. Talk with Jim Bryant at www.apexspg.com He has the 'right' foam for this sort of application.
  13. Any hear this rumor? It's basically that Porsche fitted the wrong injectors to some 99 996s and they showed trouble later with mileage?
  14. It's not the wires. They already did the wire swap on 'good' cylinders and the fault remains on 2 and 5 after that. I don't know what the codes are, the dealer just said misfire. Billy
  15. Anyone have an idea what would cause a CEL at around 6250rpm almost 100% of the time. The computer logs it as a misfire in 2 and 5. Thats it. Engine feels fine during driving even then the light comes on. Doesn't feel broken, no interruption in power that I can feel. Dealer is stumped for now, has a call in with Porsche. We've already changed the spark plugs, run tekron through it so we're pretty sure it's not bad gas, bad spark, bad coils and the injectors look ok. Car is a 99 C4 Tip.
  16. Seems expensive. My 99 911 (bought in 2003) warranty with repair master is same sort of deal but was 2500.
  17. Turns out they seem to have a set of pads for the car with wear sensors also. They are sending em out at their cost so service is cool, just strange that they have pads at all with no holes.
  18. I had my garage install the EBC RedStuff Ceramic pads on my car (99 996 C4) this morning and they said they couldn't attach the pad wear sensors to these pads. Anyone know if this is possible, I've seen other pads having an insert which pops out to do this. Thanks
  19. I'm looking to start doing drivers ed days in my 996 C4 and went to Apex Spg in Minneapolis (Jim Bryant was excellent BTW) and wrote up my day on my blog at http://www.devwebsphere.com/porsche/ What have you guys/girls done w.r.t. this?
  20. I have a repairmaster warranty. I got it when I bought my 996 C4 from the dealer, it was 4 years old with 17k miles on it. 46K for the car and 2k for the warranty with a 200 buck deductible. So far, my pipes on the left front radiator needed to be changed and they didn't pay because it's a plastic part. My air bag light came on which turned out to be grounding on the passenger seat and they didn't pay because its airbag related but Porsche paid for this themselves. Next, my radio a 220 went berserk and they did pay. So, its a mixed pot. I'm suspecting if anything big happens they will pay. RMS is unlikely for me as I have a tip. I still consider it money well spent. I got the most expensive warranty because it covered more. Something to watch is mods on the car, even an exhaust or non OEM wheel sizes, this can give them an excuse not to pay if something goes wrong. Billy
  21. The dealer is talking me out of it. Current plan is to stick with 265r30s. He says the C4 is picky about circumference and I'm risking my tranny screwing around. Any comments?
  22. It's time to change tires. Anyone know any reason why putting 280/30 tires on my porsche 18" rims is a bad idea? The newer 996s came with these tires on the same rim. The car currently has the 225 and 265/35r18s on. Are there any issues with suspension or other adjustments when I put on these tires. Any warranty issues etc?
  23. No, but I drive a 996C4 every day and it's no slouch either. My main issues here are that the 997 is under powered compared with the competition and Porsche are making the boxsters/caymans too fast underneath. This will result in an erroding of the 911 value IMHO. Plus, the boxter/caymans will kill resale on 996s (a subject close to my heart <_< ).
  24. None the less, it appears the 911s are being neglected by Porsche when compared with Boxster owners and Ferrari owners in terms of engine development. I know the 996 handling has improved most years from 1999 to the present but so too has the competitions AND they have engine development also. I wonder what the new GT3 and Turbos will develop given the 997S probably isn't competitive with the 430 but the Turbo is probably a fairer 430 competitor looking at price. But, as we saw with the GT3 and Stradale, the turbo wasn't competitive with the 360, that job fell to the Gt3.
  25. As a 911 owner, I don't understand what Porsche is up to. The Boxster started around 210 bhp and now with the Cayman has 302 bhp. The 911 over the same time period went from 300bhp to 355bhp. So thats 50% boost versus 16%. The new Cayman looks a very fast car, too fast. When Ferrari have gone from 385bhp to 489bhp, I don't see the 997 holding it's own. The new GT3 better make at least the 500 bhp plus if it's to stay with the 430 Stradale when it arrives. Looks like Ferrari finally put the electronics etc on their car also. I don't understand the Cayman strategy. It sole purpose looks to undermine the resale for 996 owners given the Cayman is likely a faster and better handling car. Anyone else got any opinions?
