  1. I suppose you have tried to turn the fan by hand. I had the driver's side fan out and it was simply a piece of gravel binding it. Hope your problem turns out to be that simple too.
  2. I have a 2007 Carrera S (one day I will actually figure out how to download pictures to show it off)and my drivers side radiator fan was not coming on. Maybe this simple fix will help someone else before they start all the research I did. I guess we should always look for the simple fix first. I removed the front tire and wheel well cover to get to the fan. It turned out all it was was a small rock lodged in the fan. I tried to spin it by hand and noticed resistence so I moved it until I felt the debris clear. Worked perfect after that. I hope this saves someone else from undue worry and research about resistors etc.
  3. Thanks, Perfect information. Just another reason to be a contributing member to this forum.
  4. Check out 6speedonline.com. There are a few step-by-step procedures there. I attached one such procedure from that forum. Good luck!
  5. Well, I just sold my 99 Carrera C2 and purchased an 07 Carrara S two wheel drive. The car has 12,000 miles and is perfect. What I have now noticed is there are some significant differences between the two cars. I got pretty good at and did all my own maintenance on the 996. Geesh...I can't even figure out how to take the air box apart to check the air filter on this new one!! There must be some clips or something somewhere?? I can't find any information on this in the DIY or in the owner's manual. And what the heck is this about no oil dip stick. I kind of liked to look at the oil in person once in a while. If anyone has a quick fix on how to get that airbox apart please bail me out. Thanks
  6. Loren, Thank you for the info....only one problem. Being not the most advanced forum site and computer person in the world...I have no idea how to access the TSB you refer to. I assume this stands for Technical Service Bulletin. Are they hidden somewhere on the site or do I go somewhere else? It hurts when you really don't get something.. Maybe educating me will help someone else too. I hate to think I am the most and only uninformed person viewing this forum. Thanks again Loren..you really don't know how much your information has helped me in the past.
  7. I have a 99 C2. I have had my airbag light come on for the last time. I have a durametric and have been able to diagnose the problem as the drivers side seatbelt. I have re-set the light several times now. I have cleaned things up and used contact cleaning fluid, but I really don't even know where the contacts in question are. I heard the new ones are gold. The light would stay off for several months, but now the durations are getting shorter. Looks like I need to replace the connection. Looking under the seat, it seems pretty straight forward to remove the seat if I get that large star socket. Does that wiring harness under the seat unplug some way? I am sure there must be someone out there who has done this before. I called Sunset and they gave me a price on the connector and new harness. They said it was a common problem and they have them in stock. Any help from someone who has done this? I couldn't find a DIY in my search of the forum...
  8. What I have done to keep my engine clean is to warm it up first. Then remove the air box and filter. Put a plastic baggie over the alternator and put plastic wrap secured with a heavy rubber band over the air intake. Also, I wrap and protect the electric plug to the air sensor. I then spray everything with Simple Green and let it sit for few minutes but not long enough to dry. I then use a garden hose and with a pressure spray to wash everything. I have had very good luck with this method and apparently have never done any harm. Engine looks great. Clean the air filter box separately.
  9. This is just a note of encouragement to all you less experienced do it yourselfers. Today is a rainy cold miserable day in Oregon so I decided to change the sparkplugs on my 99 C2 with 57,000 miles. I was going to wait for 60,000 miles, but I was bored so and said what the heck. I have had the car for about two years and love it. I had read numerous posts on this forum about the project. To be honest I was a little worried I would run into some difficulties, but it turned out to be much easier that expected. I jacked up the rear end and removed the wheels. No other parts need to be removed for access. It took about three and a half hours from start to all cleaned up and tools put away. I am making this post to encourage others not to be intimidated by those who decribe the job as dificult. Also, a big thank you for the DIY posts. This forum is worth a bunch...I encourage everyone who has yet to contribute to do so. I know I would have never attempted this job without the help and education provided by this forum. Oh..I used Beru plugs and all the coils looked great and were reused.
  10. Thanks guys...I feel better.....I have learned much from my regular visits to this forum.
  11. OK guys, here goes for my first ever post. I have had a 99 C2 6 speed for about a year. I love the car. It is in pristine condition inside and out. Not even any broken panels on the underside. I am the third owner and have all the maintenance paperwork from day one. I paid a couple hundred bucks to have the car inspected before I bought it, and the mechanics gave it a thumbs up. It has had the normal repairs such as a clutch at 45,000 miles, an alternator, brakes, front rotors, and basic filters, fluid change etc. The car has 55,000 miles now. It does not burn one drop of oil between oil changes (every 4,000 with Redline 5-40). The engine is clean and does not show any past or present oil seepage. It runs like a scalded cat and is as tight as a car off the showroom floor. So why this post? I bought a Durametric just to play around with. I hooked it up and found out there are 131 range 2 ignitions. The last one was at 301 hours. This is a long time ago, but 131 seems like a lot. Now for you experts to step up to the plate. The Durametric instructions indicate one range 2 ignition might invalidate a warranty. I have 131!!!!!!! I can't imagine the thing will blow up now after all these years, but how could this thing still be alive and well if apparently abused that badly when it was new? Is the Drametric screwed up? I wonder if it is possible for this thing to have been driven that hard and still be like new 1600 operating hours after the last alleged over rev. Any thoughts? Oh...by the way... I am somewhat computer literate and have yet to be able to figure out how to post a picture with my profile. It always tells me the image size is too big even though the auto make the picture smaller deal says it is on.......
