  1. Pull the OBD codes from the ECU before you do anything else, as they may give you a clue. My used 3.4L replacement engine broke a valve spring after running about 4800 miles (misfire codes for a particular cylinder, no improvement with changed plug or igniter, low/no compression on that cylinder), but it was repairable. But it doesn't sound good...
  2. I am thinking about putting a '00-'01 DME ME7.2 VarioCam 3.4l engine in an '01 Boxster S (which is also a DME ME7.2 VarioCam engine) and retaining the Boxster's ECU (either with or without a re-flash). Can have any combination of stock or aftermarket Boxster cats (up to the full 4 cats it came with). Any guys out there who have tried this WITHOUT re-flashing the ECU? If that didn't work, what ECU shops have a program that doesn't require a MAF piggy-back box?
  3. Contemplating a 3.4L swap for my '01S. Anyone done it in California and managed to still keep it smog legal? (Any details would be appreciated).
  4. If you strip the whole wheel down to the bare metal, then you will have to take a lot of time to prime and sand the entire wheel, inside and out. Most people just lightly sand the imperfections on the paint on the face of the wheel with fine wet and dry sand paper and only apply primer to the areas where they had to go down to bare metal. And then just paint the face of the wheel. Very often the paint inside the wheel is O.K., just really dirty and needs cleaning. Unless you're going to enter a concours, they you'll need to learn how to replicate the finish with a spray gun. It's really important to buy the Wurth Clear Laquer, as the silver paint just puts down alot of metal flakes. It's the Clear Laquer that give the wheel the shiny wet look...
  5. Yes, I saw that, but if you take the picture and blow it up, you can see the part number 964-375-049-00. (Somewhat irritatingly, there is also a 964-375-049-01 number for the C4 and 965-375-049-00 number for the C4 Targa/Cabrio and Turbo on the part!). What's more interesting is that they put an "R" label on the -049 part that matches the "/L" part number in your PET drawing. I'd be interested to know how much a place like Sunset Porsche will charge for these mounts. Also, besides the front mount spacers and bolts, the FVD kit seems to have some concave spacers (maybe to go over the square "carriage bolt"-type area on the studs of the mounts?
  6. FWIW, here is a picture of the install kit FVD sells to mount Carrera engines in Boxsters:
