  1. My 2000 Boxster just turned over 196,000 today. I do all the work on it these days. My advice is to drive it a lot and stay on top of the little things. Last month I replaced the water pump and AC compressor pulley. Last weekend I replaced the drivers side airbag bracket to keep the horn from tooting over bumps. It’s not a maintenance hog though. Most of the time i just get in it and go. I’m the second owner. It has the original engine and IMS bearing.
  2. I replaced the airbag bracket in the steering wheel. (The horn was sounding off when least expected.) I saw a connector that appears to be three brown wires into two wires. A brown wire with red stripe seems to be broken at the connector and was lying disconnected. Horn works fine and all stalks and arms work too. Can anyone with access to a wiring diagram tell me what that wire goes to? Maybe only one of my two horns is actually sounding off. Steve. Year 2000, 2.7 L with Tiptronic.
  3. I am getting codes P1124, P1126 and P0466, which I think are because the shut off valve is open at idle. Am I off base here? I don't want to rewire the switch if it is operating correctl.
  4. Thanks. I get the same codes (see my post on the wiring to the Shut Off Valve 996.605.201.01) which it though was a problem with the shut off valve not, well, shutting off. I blew through the line to the vent line and valve at the intake manifold and thought it was OK because I could get air through it. I did not know it was supposed to be closed and holding a vacuum when the engine was off, which is what I read your posts to be saying. I guess I should check out that valve too. Same question as above, though. Did you have to get under the car to connect the forward end of the vent line? I cannot see where is attaches on my car.
  5. RE Post #67 ... How did you remove and replace the valve and vent line at the intake manifold? It looks inaccessible to me. Did you remove the intake manifold? Did you have to get under the car to route the line forward to the EVAP system? Steve
  6. Thanks for checking up on it. I will run a ground wire to the switch and see what happens. Funny how complicated the EVAP system is on the Porsche isn't it?
  7. My 2000 Boxster (2.7 liter, Tiptronic) has developed the howling, moaning sound at the air intake under the fuel filler door that has troubled other owners. The noise comes on at idle and disappears once the throttle is opened. I blew out the lines (none were obstructed) and replaced the Carbon Control Valve 996.605.213.01, the Fuel Vent Valve 996.201.143.01 and the Shut off Valve 996.605.201.01 without any change in the sound. The sound comes from the Shut Off Valve, which is open at idle and, I think, should be closed. One terminal on the switch is connected to a wire that carries 12 volts when the car is at idle. The other terminal appears to have 3.5 volts, although the body of the switch has a molded icon indicating that it is to go to ground. I tested the Shut Off Valve that I removed. With the ground terminal connected to ground and the postive terminal connected to 12 volts, the valve snaps shut and stays shut. I think that this switch is supposed to stay shut until the engine comes up to part throttle and that there is something wrong with the ground, but would like to know if anyone has a wiring diagram to let me know where the two wires to the terminal come from, if one of them is supposed to go to ground and if I am right about how and when the Shut Off Switch works.
