  1. how about your fuel filter, how long since you changed that?
  2. HERE YOU GO , TRY THIS http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap.htm Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of an M97 engine swap right now, but wanted to know if anyone had some answers to these questions: 1) Are the mounting points on the M97 in the same place as the M96? 2) Presumably the exhaust ports on the engine are going to be flipped around compared to the 911 fitment so the manifolds cannot be used? 3) Will the M97 engine fit (without modification) to the transmission bell housing, or will that need an adapter? 4) Any other mechanical fitment pitfalls? Thanks in advance for any help! S.
  3. I have a set of tools, but I can't loan them out, if you lived near me we could work out an arrangment to rent my garage... I'm in Florida
  4. I got the impression that everyone thought I never made mistakes ,lol, and up to this point that was true to the extent that I never ran off the track before, but all that changed last weekend. Three times in one weekend and here is the proof. Give you guys something to badmouth me with, go ahead, I can take it. It's all in good fun. If you hang in there, you will find 3 booboo's , the last being the best of course. So go ahead, laugh it up, I won't give you too many chances to do that. lol
  5. I decided to try a new camera view and was pleasantly surprised on the results. I wish I could integrate the front view into the pic but it's not in my budget this year, besides there are more important things to spend money on, such as an engine upgrade, brakes, suspension, seats, etc . I found out in this session that I have out driven my G lock and will, at some point, put in race seats, I'm tired (literally) of holding myself in the seat. At the end of the day, I'm exhausted.
  6. This is what happens when you turn off your PSM and hit the throttle too soon and too hard. As I always have said, you are not trying hard enough if you haven't spun out. Regrouped and came out behind the Turbo that I spun in front of, and stayed with him for almost 4 laps until traffic caught me and another turbo. Make a long story short, I did the Boxster community proud by sticking this close to 997 turbo's with a virtually stock Box S. My lap times were at 2:34 fairly consistently and I think that's nothing to be ashamed of. Just wait till I get the funding for a bigger engine. Lol Bottom line is, I had lots of fun.
  7. Not really , I mean it is a little tempermental, with the right amount of wiggling it should pop right on, how far away from the engine block is it? there are 2 guides that it has to fit over and they are tight and most importantly did you lign up the clutch disk with the pilot bearing using a tool? if not get yourself the plastic tool that lines it up , it only costs $10 from Pelican. if the disk is not properly lined up, it will NOT go on.
  8. The manifold pipes will fit your heads but the flange size for the intermediate pipe is different from yours, if you get the whole system then it should bolt up but then you have the different catalitic converter issue. I don't see any benefit in doing it.
  9. I was afforded a unique opportunity to test how much difference, if any, cup tires would perform at an AX event compared to street tires. I was asked to help design and setup an AX course for our Sunday event. I ran my street tires on the setup day and after a couple of laps did a consistent 46.5 second run. at the event on cup tires I ran a 44.2 A beautiful day at Zepherhills Air Port with a good turn out of participants. I believe we had 40 drivers and a variety of cars. Unfortunately for me, I had one of the top dogs run in my class who even took first overall with a 42.2 (beating our national champion) but I took second in class and in the top 5 overall. the total scores did not get posted yet but it was fun anyway so here is one of my faster runs and one practice run where I did not do so good.
  10. Looks like toast to me. Sorry this happened to you and your wife, just be glad everyone is OK, as for the car It's fixable , would make a good track car. I am sure the ins co will total this but make sure you hold out for replacement costs . Find a few cars in similar condition and milage and get the price quote from the dealer then negotiate Good luck
  11. No problems at all, with softronics you do the flash yourself, it comes with intructions just make sure you follow them to the letter. The other stuff just added to the softronic flash, Keep us posted on your results Harry [Harry, I think that is pretty impressive. I got 252 at the wheels in my '04 986S - no motor mods except eliminating all cats, but I still have the stock muffler. I drive the number 32 Boxster, silver, at Chin events - I've seen you there. ] Was that you I passed? lol just kidding... Chin was definately fun, I cant make this month but next time they run at Sebring again , I will be there. the 252 number sounds a little high just for eliminating the cats, but like I said before, dyno's are really only meant to compare the changes you made on your car, but results from one dyno to another aren't going to give you any real world comparison. Do you have a base dyno, just before you made your change? curious to know how much difference that really made
  12. Fellow enthusiasts, I am curious to know why more 986 owners have not turned to turbo charging their cars. I know there is a lot of interest in modifying and getting more horse power. The number one complaint of the 986 and some of the 987 has been that it’s underpowered. Is it that you are afraid of the consequences or is it the high price associated with the kits that are available today? I would be interested to know would you consider Turbo charging your car, if the price would be in $ 6500 range and getting results such as 350 hp at the wheel , running a save 5 psi boost? Please let me know, I appreciate your time. Regards Harry R Chamness
  13. About $12K Regards, PK I didn't ask how much but what, not too many options at this point - turbo is one option taking away some reliability or engine swap with bigger motor and those are getting hard to find .
  14. As promised here is a dyno run without any changes to the car, other than tires, in cooler and much dryer weather. The result was surprising to me. In the humid weather the best results were in 3rd gear a 246 RWHP and 4th gears at 248 RWHP and now it 259.5 in 3rd and 262.4 in 4th which means a fraction off the 310 FWHP, that's pretty cool. That explains why I caught the Caymans. Now what to do to catch those GT3's? hmmmm ( I know, it's a sickness)
  15. I redid the dyno on a cooler less humid day and the hp is actually at a hair under 310 FWHP . the stock engine is supposed to be 259 FWhp. I put headers on (cheap ones from ebay - eliminated the other cats - Borla muffler - cold air (made myself) - softronic dme tune - Pedro's garage planum- thats it, runs like a raped ape.
  16. A number of you have asked me for hard numbers on my Boxster S and I guessed around 295 FH , but that was only a guesstimate, Turns out I was not far off. Check out this video of the dyno run. The run was made on a Dynojet which is not known for high number but I believe more realistic numbers. I may have lost about 2-3% due to the high temp and humidity we had today and some even believe those wide wheels I'm running are sucking down some hp but that's OK - I'm happy with these numbers since I did all the work myself
  17. Hey Steve, you do not need to purchase a new bumper cover, that one can be repaired by any competend auto body shop for hopefully less than a new cover and paint just giving you another option Harry
