  1. I've searched a bit on different forums and collected some information, but still not sure what to use. It seems the dealers buy in larger quantities and don't always use Mobil 1 or other approved oils. I doubt they carry separate types for the older 2.5l boxster compared to all other Porsches, so they put the same thing in all Porsches. That means many of you guys with 2.5l boxsters might have the wrong fluid in it. Now the two ratings are GL5 and GL4, each one is different due to the alloys used in the tranny. Some have friction modifiers or slippery additives and some don't. (mainly for limited slip) The 2.5l boxster has a 5 spd that's also used in Audi's. It requires GL4 rated transmission fluid which was made by Burmah and got bought out by BP. Mobil One does not make GL4 fluid. Most other Porsches like the 996 take a GL5 rated fluid: Shell Transaxle (75W-90), 999.917.546.00 for 1 liter bottle Mobil Mobilube PTX (75W-90), though I don't know what PTX is compared to their standard synthetic stuff. Other non approved fluids that people have used: Redline MT-90 Redline 75W/90 NS (2 parts) mixed Redline Lightweight Gear Oil (1 part) Royal Purple (claims to be compatible with GL4 or GL5) has friction modifiers in it Pensoil for GM cars Does anyone have more information they can add or suggestions? Thanks,
  2. for a 2.5 the needle should be straight up for normal highway driving. In stop and go traffic, the needle will move into the 0. After the half way point of the 0, the fans should turn on and work its way back down. In stop and go I've had my need on the far right of the 0. Only under heavy track use does the needle move past the 0.
  3. Say an 05 or 06 with low miles, under 20k ? I'd like a NAV system but that's the only big option I need. Any thoughts? Thanks,
  4. Just go down to your local Fry's or computer store. It's the same connector/pins that cdrom drives use. Even the locking clip type fit perfectly. I cut and extended the wires since they usually have a connector on each end of wire. It was free since I had one laying around.
  5. My 99's instrument cluster clock backlighting too a dump today. Does anyone know how to replace it? I can see the clock in direct sunlight faintly, so I know it still works but there's no backlighting :( I'd rather not replace the entire cluster. thanks, christopher

  7. I'd be intersted in buying one if it was reasonably priced! christopher
  8. There are 2 illumination voltage wires. One goes up in volts for brighter light, the other goes down in volts for brighter light. I did that hack myself and used the illumination wires off the cigarette plug! http://www.cb-racing.com/boxster_wiring_switches.html christopher
  9. I don't think there is any gapping on these type of plugs. Sounds like you have a bad plug, not a gap issue. Buy a new on and be happy. Oh, and stay away from Bosch plugs, they are actually crap.
  10. I had those same codes for a long time. replacing the MAF is the only thing that did it. Then 10 months later I took it back to the dealer and they put a new one in again... only this time under warranty because there's a 2 year warranty on parts. whew!
