  1. Hey I am considering buying this 2001 911 C4 for a pretty good price ($15,700) it has 104k runs and drives good Anyways it has a CEL light on and here are the codes I pulled up. -P0134 -P0154 -P0300 -P0306 -P0304 -P0305 -P1115 The dealership got the car as a trade in a few months ago, but had to wait for the title for a while so it just sat around. They said when they got it they had to replace the starter and the only CEL light on was for the 02 sensor, and now it has all these. I own a mechanics shop, but I like to stay away from European cars as they are time consuming, but this Porsche would be for myself as a winter driver so I can take the time repairing it, just want to know how serve this would be (tune up, or harder?) Thanks!
  2. As Mark has said, it won't work in his case because he's got an automatic, but it might work to eliminate the starter as the culprit in a manual. IIRC, the "reverse" idea is just because of the gearing...don't need to get it up to any fast roll to pop the clutch, although first would give a similar (but sometimes too sudden) result. Regards, Maurice. Thanks for explaining Maurice! I just didn't know his car was an automatic, I assumed it was a manual, so thats why I suggested it
  3. Thanks, I think this is what I will do, I am going to try using the cleaning sovlent to clean the current window, if no luck them I will buy a new roll of the plastic and make my own window :)
  4. That is why I can't really go over $150, I like to have at least $500 in a rainy day account for just the car. Plus I am not to worried about it looking perfect, 75% on the time I have the top down, and in 3-4 months the hardtop will go on
  5. Check your starter, had the same problem as you on my 01 911. It cranked and cranked, so I replaced the battery, the important relays, checked all fuses, and key. Took it to the shop, needed a new starter. Try push starting it in reverse, see if it will fire up. I was able to do it with me girlfriend, and by doing that I knew it wasn't a fuel problem or anything
  6. Hey thanks for the reply, but unfortunately both those are out of my budget for the top, I just spent $450 on a new starter w/install and $300 on a hardtop so I am not worried about my softop looking perfect, just better than a droppy discolored clear window. Has anyone else had this problem?
  7. Trying to fix up the rear window, on a very small budget, so replacing top is out of question. I was thinking about stitching the window back into place with black or dark blue thread, and cleaning it with some kind of plastic window cleaner (like Novus Polish, recommend by Miata owners http://novuspolish.com/) but would like to buy something that is available at Autozone or Pepboys Has anybody ever done this? I attached a picture of my top
  8. Hey thanks for the help, I am going to follow your instructions and give it a try in a few minutes!
  9. Hey I recently unplugged and changed the battery and ever since then my radio wont turn on! I check the fuse according to this thread Fuse thread and it was fine. But I read there is another fuse behind the radio, I will go and buy the tools to remove it in a few hours, but does anyone have any pictures of the actual steps to remove? I searched for threads with pictures also but couldn't find any. Thanks!
  10. 111k on mine and it handles great, I can't wait for the snow to come in so I can drop my hardtop on and slice through it!
  11. Hey guys, I had a shop replace the starter and the car starts fine now
  12. Well the only other thing I can think of is my security system, sometimes it acts up and the little red light on the unlock bottom stays red and the car honks every couple of minutes while driving
  13. The only two codes that come up are two o2 sensor codes. Do you think replacing the battery will do any good? Or should I just replace the starter?
  14. 2001 911 C4 Cabrio, 6spd, 111k Hey guys, I bought this car a couple weeks ago and love it! You guys helped me fix alot of my small problems but now I have a pretty big one. Ever since I got the car it would take a few cranks to start except when I would start it after 3+ Hours, then it would fire up on first crank. I replaced the battery, but with a much smaller one of my 08 Rabbit, and the problem was still there. But the car still started up without a problem, and yesturday it finally gave out. I was pulling out of a driveway and the car wouldnt start, just kept cranking and cranking, so I ended up having my girlfriend push me backwards and I popped the car into reverse and let go of the clutch and it started right up. So after that I went to the dealership I bought the car from and turned it of and tried to start it there, same problem, just kept cranking with no start. So they put a jumper box on it and it kept cranking and then somekind of smoke came from the engine bay so we stopped jumping it and just did the reverse gear start again. So bottom line is, do I need to replace the battery or starter? I have searched all starting threads and only found 2 that helped, but weren't exactly like my problem.
  15. 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera4 Cabriolet Type 4462 Serial Y5060097 24/99
  16. Hey guys, I fixed the windows thanks to geoff! I swear I searched for it last night and didn't see that thread lol. I also ran the OBD and two codes came up, they were both O2 sensors, of course I forgot to write then down, but one ended with a 34 I am pretty sure.
  17. Hey guys thanks for all the replys! I am going to go by my friends car dealership and use his scanner to see what the check engine light is. And I will also use that radio thread to try to restore mine. But my main concern is the rear window, is there anyway to forcefully close and open them? Thanks again everyone! I am hoping to make this car my DD for a while, and I usually do a little over 2,000 miles a month.
  18. Hey new to this forum, hopefully will become very active soon! I just bought a 01 Porsche Carrera4 Cabriolet and have many small problems with it! The car has 110k and is a 2 owner and I bought it from a wholesaler. Here is what I can see wrong, if you have any help to one of these or more please let me know! Thanks! -Rear windows wont close -Cabriolet lid(trunk looking thing that the top goes under when down) doesn't close fully -Passenger window was working fine earlier today, but seems to have fallen off track or something -Radio says "WAIT" when I turn it on, and it just stays that way -The "top" light is on -Engine area/trunk wont open -The "check engine" light is on -The spoiler lights goes on every once in a while on start -The engine idles a little funny -Rear convertible top window is stained and ripped out of seams -Needs a new battery (engine turns over once slowly then usually starts) -A/C doesn't work Thanks for all the help! :)
