  1. JFP....FYI. I stopped at Advance Auto on the way home. Bought a cheap flat four connector that one would use on a say a boat trailer. Spliced it to the O2 sensor. Took it to a local shop, put it on a computer, and it is working just fine. I wrapped in shrink wrap to ensure weather seal, but for $10, am very happy. thanks again, Brian
  2. Hello all, I have an interesting problem on my 1997 Boxster. Problem is with the O2 sensor, passenger side, aft of the converter --- the connector this sensor plugs into is dried, rotten, broken, and no longer holds the O2 plug firmly enough. It keeps falling out. Just to be clear, the connector that is bad is the one coming from the trunk, round plug type that seats in the floor of the trunk and accepts the plug from the O2 sensor. Sunset and Pelican think I would have to order an entire engine harness at over a $1,000. Doesn't make sense to me that a simple plug requires a $1,000 change of an entire wire harness. Is there a way to order just that connector? Should I try to make my own harness? Any words of help are appreciated. thanks Brian
  3. OK, call me an idiot, call me old and unable to navigate via a computer, call me what ever you want, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the next page of an article in the DIY section. I am reading "Rear Wheel Bearing 102". I can read the first page, I know there is more, but how do you get to subsequent pages? thanks
  4. Taff / Maurice Thanks gentlemen. I'll look at all you have suggested. After i posted the initial post, i went back out and did some more looking. The J tude and connections is fine. The filler hose also seems fine. Did not yet check the cooler. But, interestingly, I did find that the dipstick guide hose was cracked, almost all the way around. Tomorrow I will clean it all up, install the new starter, and let her run while i watch for the leak. Will let you know what i see. thanks again,
  5. Hi folks! 1997 Boxster, 2.5L. Standard issue, nothing aftermarket. 105K on the miles. Two weekends ago, had a friend help me change out the rear main seal. Enough evidence to prove it was in fact leaking. No problems with the change out. Actually went a lot smoother than I expected and the entire job was finished in about 4.5 hours. The following week, I notice oil on my carport floor. Crap! Start to investigate, and I find oil had pooled on top of the engine block, mostly on the right (passenger side) from the throttle body area forward. Lots of oil. Enough to fill the casting divets on top of the block and overflow to the sides of the block. Soaked it all up with some paper towels, cleaned as best I could with some brake parts cleaner. I also drained about a quart of oil thinking maybe there was too much in there. I had added some Lucas stop leak to slow the main seal leak temporarily until I could get to it. That was about a week before I changed the seal. I was thinking I had added too much and caused a little (some) oil to blow out??!! Obviously, I'm no mechanic or expert. The dip stick read about a 1/4 quart below max after I drained some. Drove the car, and yes, lots of oil on top the block again. To add to the pain, my starter died. So, I pull the starter, and while I'm at it, I pull the housing between the two intakes, and loosen the passenger side intake. Didn't remove it, just loosen it so it could move a little for me to see around it. I see nothing obvious that would cause a leak. Check all that was visible for tightness and for cracks, etc. Nothing obvious to me. So, what next? I have no idea where to start looking. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Brian
  6. Hello all, I have two holes near my interior light on my 1997 Boxster. The holes look as though there was once a light or at least some covers present. The holes are located just above the interior light between the light and the handle for the convertible top. I have looked at every parts catalogue i can get my hands on, but have failed to produce a part number or description of the lens caps, lights, or whatever is supposed to be there. Any help is appreciated. If necessary, i can take and post pictures. thanks
  7. Man, you guys are awesome! :notworthy: eBay has a 4-stalk right now, wondering if this one will work? Item #280546474449. Honestly, I will do some more research, but i think this short conversation has already talked me out of it! Thanks everyone, Brian
  8. Hello folks, I have read where some have been successful in retrofiting Boxsters with Cruise Control. I have not read where it has been done on a 1997. Just wondering if it is possible, and what parts I would need? Also, read that once done the computer needs to be reprogammed. Is this true and how much are we talking about at the dealer? thanks Brian
  9. Thanks for the input Wyane. I don't have time to get to the car until this weekend, but will disconnect the MAF and take her for a short drive. then I'll take a look along the lines of the fuel delivery idea you re proposing. Let you guys know what i find. Also, the CEL came on today on my way home. So, I'll pull them tomorrow and see what they are possibly pointing to. Thanks again. Brian
  10. thanks pg....that's where i was leaning. Pretty easy to get to, and seems to be the culprit of a lot of problems as voiced on this site. Brian
  11. 1997 Boxster 5 speed, 97K miles --- I have read a whole lot on these symptoms from this site. Still need some advice. Symptoms: 1) Occasional (read intermittent) hard starts. Cranks for a long time then eventually fires up. 2) Sometimes will start, but soon die before I can get it into gear to move. Idles for maybe 5 sec then dies. Usually, when this problem appears, it last for most of the day on start ups. Then, next day will purr like a kitty cat. 3) Occasionally, like this AM, will start fine, but when shifting from 1st to 2nd, or from 2nd to 3rd, perhaps around 2500 RPM to about 4000 RPM, will run like its only firing on a couple of cylinders. Has never showed this symptom in first gear or at higher RPMs (above 4000 RPM). 4) Occasional puff of smoke at startup. Does not smoke after a few seconds. Have never noticed it smoking any other time. Not very concerned about this symptom except that I think it may, along with some other symptoms point to a bad AOS. For all these symptoms, I have not noticed any patterns, like it has been sitting for a long time, or sitting in high heat, after fueling, etc. No pattern to this madness. Fault codes that have showed with the CEL in the past: 1) P0444 or P0445 – I can’t remember which one it was. About four months ago, the CEL came on and my buddy pulled the code that pointed to the EVAP canister purge valve. 2) P1128 and P1130. Recently, these codes appeared. I cleared them and the CEL has not come back on. However, some of the symptoms have showed their face again. The hard start has happened, and the lack of power or not firing on all cylinders showed up this AM. Again, no CEL right now, but symptoms are present. What I have done: 1) Read a whole lot of stuff on this site. Which is primarily why I knew to do the following. 2) Cleaned the MAF sensor with CRC MAF sensor cleaner. 3) Checked for a bad AOS. As far as I can tell, its OK. I do not feel a suction on the oil filler cap. I did not find oil residue on the tube attached to the AOS. Removed the throttle body and gave it a thorough cleaning. It was very dirty! 4) Performed my own vacuum check via my ears and with propane. I was not satisfied with this, so I took it to my buddy who has a shop. I know he has a smoke machine, but I am not sure he used it to check for vacuum leaks. He did not find any either. Both my check and his included the area under the right fender. Feels like I need to start replacing sensors and/or the AOS. I’ve read about the vapor lock idea, and I can get the car to start, albeit embarrassing if in a affluent location like a nice restaurant. The symptom that really bothers me is the lack of power when it happens. So, all this to ask: Am I on the right track? If I were to start changing out sensors, which ones are first, second, third, etc? What else can I check? Any discussion is very much appreciated as this is my first Porsche and I am only into a few months of our sure to be long-term love affair. Shhhhhh….don’t tell the wifey! Seriously, I am still a long way out from learning this car. I love it. But these intermittent symptoms are driving me crazy. Thanks all of you for all the communication I have read on this site already. Its absolutely wonderful. Thanks again! Brian
  12. Hugo, You ever find the problem for this? Having same issue now with mine. thanks Bria
  13. All done! Second attempt to bleed went fine. Fluid level looks like it has stailized, fans came on and off as they should have. And, I took her for a 30 min ride. temp stayed fairly constant at the 12 O'Clock position, maybe a little higher, but certainly not where it looks like it is normal. Got home, lifted her up just to look for any leaks; none were found, so the under-cover was reattached, and she is asleep for hte night. Thank you all agian for the advice and help. Appreciate it. brian
  14. Loren/Wayne/PPbon, thank you all for the help. I am heading out right now to execute the procedure I just read suggested by Wayne. I appreciate all the quik replies. I'll let you all know how it goes... Brian
