  1. that dealer visit was back in January and since then the system works without faults (except for the occasional hick-up with own CDs)
  2. Hi cantrax, my CDR24 stillhas some problems with homemade CDs from time to time, but I can live with that. Eject and reload the CD and it works again.... But the problem with the lock-up I described earlier this year was treated differently: The dealer installed a software/firmware update. This solved it.
  3. On the Carnewal page there is a part called 'P96 GT3 Crankcase Breather' http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96184.htm With the search function I could only find very limited informations on this: '... you can always think about the $45 crankcase breather valve that has been tested to provide 5hp on street cars...' (posting from 'Euro GT3 in Nov.2005) What's the function of this part and why should it deliver additional horses? Where is it located and how difficult is it to replace the stock part? And does eventually somebody even has a part number?
  4. I have a broken window switch in the drivers door. I am not sure how it happened, but eventually I killed it myself by knocking it off with the knee. It is still functional, but the black plastic cap is cracked on the side. I'll check with the dealer about warranty.... but if they refuse, how do I get access to this part? I assume I do not need to remove the whole door panel? Any ideas? :help: Wolfgang
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLPcGnh5hAY...&search=997 Sorry, in german only... but I am sure you get the message without speaking the language :drive: 5 'lucky' winners get a joyride...
  6. Yesterday my windblocker was replaced (the glass). The reason: the plastic used for the frame can break. It looked exactly the same, no (obvoius) redesign. I never experienced any problem, even with top speed and open hood. But if you get it for free.....
  7. Yesterday I had my Boxster at the dealer to replace the 4 broken vents in the dashboard (they fell apart) and the plastic piece on the co-driver side where the umbrella can be stored (the paint peeled off). Now I have to show up again because they want to test something with the windblocker. That seems to be a new recall, but they could not give me details on what they are really looking for. They now ordered a new part to test it with the original mounts. Either only the windblocker or the blocker incl. mounts have to be changed.... Does anybody know the reason for this? Heard it before? Maybe it's in Germany only, as we are the only ones allowed to drive top speed with the roof open on public roads :drive:
  8. Hi, did anybody find an easy to put these sliders back in place? I cleant mine today with a fine, long-haired brush and suddenly 2 of them just fell off.... I couldn't believe it and tried to figure out how they are attached. I moved one of the remaining ones to check how it works and voila, the 3rd one was broken.... It seems that if you move the slider to an extreme position (left or right) it just pops out :cursing: The car is under warranty, so no problem to get this fixed... but are the new ones better? Did they change the design? Wolfgang
  9. I currently use the H/K Drive&Play in my 987, but the sound is not really good. When searching the Internet I found this one: http://www.diceelectronics.com/ipod_integration_most.htm '..... Finaly, an iPod integration kit for "M.O.S.T." fiber optic vehicles. Hear the highest quality audio from your iPod on your factory (OEM) entertainment system. Control your iPod directly from your radio and steering wheel controls. View and select music by playlist and song. Everything your could ask for or dream of in an iPod car integration kit.... The DICE fiber optic kit is compatible withMercedes Benz and Porsche vehicles utilizing the MOST fiber optic bus. Kit availability is expected this March.....' Has anybody installed this? Is it really available and does it work properly? And what about the price? Wolfgang
  10. Does anybody have the part number for the front lip of the new Sports Package for the 987? The complete kit is Tequipment: 987 044 802 00 I am very interested now in this front lip, as this seems to be a nice upgrade. Does anyone have a part number for it? I have the latest PET CD, but this is not included yet. And the part number I have is only for the complete package.... Wolfgang
  11. Yes, there is a socket, but it's not switched (it does not even turn off after 2hours like i.e. the instrument cluster). I also tried to find one (987), but I gave up after 3 hours and after having dismantled half of the car....
  12. agreed.... but the nice thing with the HK is that the iPOD is out of sight and it's charged in parallel. And since it's connected through the dock connecter you can use it for all the latest iPODs.
  13. hi romkey, I posted the whole story here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8210
  14. A lot of people try to connect an iPOD to their 987 or 997, but with the introduction if the MOST-bus based systems this became quite difficult. An AUX socket is not available, the famous IceLink also does not (yet) support the new systems and the FM Transmitters (i.e. iTRIP) do not really deliver a good sound. So the only soultion today seems to be the Harman Kardon Drive&Play system http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/tour.aspx This can be connected through a hard-wired FM splitter and therefore also works with the latest Porsche systems as long as they use only one antenna (it will most propably not work with PCMII). I installed this in my 05 Boxster and here are some tips and hints on how to do it: MECHANICS: The Drive&Play has a separate display and control know which need to be installed within reach but without disturbing too much. Of course you can glue the display to your dash, but I preferred smoother option. I fabricated a DIY bracket (bent steel/sheet metal covered with leather) which sits near the gear lever. This is fixed to the center consol on an existing screw beneath the covers, so it can be removed without leaving signs if needed. Here are some pix: There are many other options, but this one works quite well. To connect it to the radio you first have to remove this. Here you will find a nice description and a link to a pdf-file with pictures: http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0...n=0&page=1&vc=1 Please be aware that the picture in that posting with the PIN layout is NOT of a CDR23 or CDR24, so forget this. One you have the radio out you can connect the devices, which leads me to my second chapter: ELECTRICS: To connect the Drive&Play to the CDR24 you need to use the antenna splitter which is part of the D&P system. Unfortunatly this does not fit easily, you need two adapters for the antenna (FAKRA <-> DIN). You can get them at www.crutchfield.com part #12040EU20 and #12040EU10 or in car hifi shops (I bought mine at Multi Media (Germany)). The 12V Power supply is a bit tricky. The CDR24 does not have a switched 12V socket (# 15) like the other Becker radios, so you have two choices: - Find switched 12V somewhere else (I did not succeed and gave up after 3 hours and dismantling half of the car  - Use the 12V socket in the footwell of the Boxster. I used the second option which works quite fine for me. You have to turn on-off the D&P system manually, but even if you forget to turn it off it doesn't harm. Once the playlist of the iPOD is done, the Drive&Play turns itself off after an hour (you just need to make sure that you do not endlessly repeat the playlist). All the cables disappear behind the covers, there's enough space for all the extra stuff. The cable for the iPOD goes into the glove box from the back. The iPOD sits in the glove box and does not need to be touched during operation. QUALITY: Well, this is the only point which leaves some room for improvement. The quality is far better than any Transmitter I tried, but it does not match the quality of the AUX-input I use in my 996 with the TrafficPro. I am not the HiFi guru and for me it is fine, but if you turn it loud you will hear some minor 'noise' between the songs. SUMMARY: I would do it again and I can live with all the Pro's and Con's, but everybody needs to check this by himself. For the ~200$ you get a nice solution which works quite good. It's not perfect and maybe one day there is something better on the market... but until then it seems to be the best stuff you can get for your Boxster. Wolfgang
  15. Hi romkey, I am done with the installation, but I haven't had the time yet to document this properly. maybe I find time to summarize it this weekend. I'll keep you posted... Wolfgang
  16. Hi Bob, I still use one of the 12V sockets for the HK Drive&Play system (iPOD). It's dissapointing that they don't turn off, but the Drive&Play turns off after it's incactive for 1 hour. So I can live with this now and it's easier than finding a switched 12V (Pin15) in a Boxster. Usually you can take this from the radio, but not with these nice Most based CDR24's :cursing: Wolfgang
  17. In the 987 there are the two 12V sockets in the footwell and below the armrest. They both remain active even if the ignition key is withdrawn. The manual says on page 124: '... If the engine is not running and the accesories are switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged...' But there is the 'Load switch off after 2 hours or 7 days' on page 226: '... If the ignition key is removed, loads which are switched on or are in standby mode (such as the luggage compartment light, interior light and radio) are automatically switched off after apprx. 2hours....' Question: is this also true for the 12V sockets? Are they turned off after the 2 hours? Wolfgang
  18. ...ok, I just found the CDR23 diagramm (which seems to be the same as the CDR24) in this great forum and there is really no switched 12V.... I need to find it somewhere else....
  19. ok. I'm getting closer with the installation... but now I don't find 12 V switched positive. Usually this can be found in Chamber A Pin 7 on Becker Radios (i.e. CDR22), but on the CDR24 this does not seem to work (can it be that I slowly start to hate these new devices?) :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :censored: :censored: :censored: Does anybody have the connection instructions for the CDR24? Or another idea where I can find switched positive (terminal 15)? I tried the 12 socket in the footwell, but that one is also permanently on (30). Wolfgang
  20. Hi Jeff, in between I also found the answer in the link you sent in another thread (CDR24 Radio Removal) . The adapters are available at: www.crutchfield.com #12040EU20 and #12040EU10 Now I just need to find out where I can get them in Europe :clapping: Wolfgang
  21. ... ok, I bought the Drive&Play and I wanted to install it today, but.... the antenna does not fit. The CDR24 uses a small, clickable antenna connector whereas the Drive&Play has an old fashioned antenna connector. Does anybody know the 'name' of the new CDR24 antenna connector so that I can order an adaptor? Fakra? FME?.... Wolfgang
  22. Has anybody installed a Harman/Kardon drive+play system? The webpage looks promising http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default2.aspx and it seems to work also with a MOST system. This looks even better than the IceLink which I use in another car: - it uses the antenna input which works for any car/radio (ok, may be not as perfect as AUX In) - it has a separate display and does not rely on the text-compatibility with the radio - it has it's own control device and can therefore access all songs like the iPOD itself (not limited to 5 playlists like the ICeLink) - it keeps the iPOD out of sight as you don't need to access it - and with ~ 200$ it's (more or less) reasonably priced (especially compared to the expected 300$ for IceLink). Is it as good as it looks on a first glance? Wolfgang
  23. Hi Jeff, thanks for the link! Helpful as always. Wolfgang
  24. I used the search function and scanned through the different forums, but I could not find a desription on how to remove the CDR 24 radio. Can anybody help me out here? Thanks Wolfgang
  25. Hi Loren, I guess you are right, it seems to be a bad radio. I drove another hour this evening and sometimes the radio works normal until it suddenly dies again without having touched any knob. The first time it happened with this homemade CD, but that does not seem to be the culprit as it happens also without any CD. Well, I will visit my dealer again tomorrow <_<
