  1. Folks, May sound like a silly question, but here goes.... My 996 (C4 Cab) has sat idle in my garage for a little over 3 months while I was out of the country. I'm anxious to fire her up and drive the car, but given it's long slumber, is there anything special I should do? The only thing I did before I left was disconnect the battery. Thanks for any advice!
  2. Thanks guys! I've been looking pretty hard at the FabSpeed Cold Air Intake kit. Any thoughts on the V-Flow Air Intake? It's more money, but still fits into my budget. Curious how that compares to the FabSpeed in terms of engine sound and possible performance improvement. Also, curious how hard it is to install. I must admit, I'm scared to death to tinker around with the car, but really want to! :)
  3. Folks, I have a 2000 C4 Cabriolet with tiptronic transmission. All in all, I really enjoy the car. It's my first 911, having owned a Boxster prior. The car has about 19K miles on it, and was purchased as a CPO car from the local Porsche dealer. I still have 1.5 years left on the CPO warranty. The two areas I would like to improve with the car would be getting a more "sports car sound" from it, and possibly improving performance as well. My question is this: (1) Are there any fairly inexpensive mods (Sub 1K range) things I can do to enhance engine sound and performance? (2) Can these mods be done at home with say basic to slightly advanced basic skill sets? (3) Will suggested mods void my CPO warranty? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated... Bill
  4. Folks, My 2000 C4 cab is in need of a bit of touch-up, inside the car where the seatbelts are. It appears the paint has chipped away, and I'd like to try and touch it up. Porsche describes my interior as graphite grey. Any advice on how to match the color and clean things up? Cheers, BB
  5. I was surprised too. Apparently they can go back 7 or 8 model years now...
  6. Hey folks, Does anyone know if the 911 Hardtop Cover (part# 00004400076) also includes the brackets for hanging on the wall? The pic on Porsche's website shows the hardtop mounted on the wall when I click on the page for the cover. If not, does anyone know the part# and cost for the item that allows for mounting on the wall? Thanks, BB
  7. Thanks! WOW!!! The Porsche Junior Car Seat is expensive! I think I'll need to do some research on alternatives...
  8. Hi, I have 24 months on the CPO warranty. I paid $40,500 for the car... Not sure how great a deal it was, but it was the best I could get them down to, and was less than a few other non CPO cars I was looking at on eBay and local...
  9. Hey guys, Well after dreaming and drooling over the 911 since I was 16 years old, I finally bought one! I found a 2000 CPO C4 Cabriolet with 17k miles on it. Here are the details: 2000 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with Tip Ocean Blue Metallic Graphite Grey Full Leather Int Supple Leather Heated Front Seats Xenon Headlights Hard Top The car really seems to have been well cared for, and I can't stop looking at it sitting in my garage! (or driving it for that matter, but it's going to rain today) :( My 3.5 year old is almost as much in love with the car as I am! He keeps telling me it's HIS Porsche! My thanks to everyone for the excellent advice and help provided!
  10. Hello folks, I have my eye on a 2002 black on black coupe with about 27K miles on it. The car is located about 150 miles from me, so I'm trying to do some advanced leg work. Is there a service (other than CARFAX) that shows the options listed on a car based on the VIN? Can the VIN provide service history? If I asked a local dealer nicely, could they do a check for me? Many thanks in advance for any guidance. Regards,
  11. Sorry to hear about your engine woes! I do apreciate the suggestion, and may actually purchase one of these units. I need to do some more research. Good luck with your car!
  12. Thanks for the link. Looks like the car was sold, as I don't see any 911's listed other than the 2007. Cheers,
  13. Please add my best wishes as well. Speedy recovery Kim!
  14. Hey, nice to see some other pilots on the forum. As my wife likes to joke, I'm a button pusher on the Boeing 777. I made the mistake of explaining LNAV, VNAV and CATIIIb to her once and now she thinks all I do is push buttons like George Jetson!
  15. Thanks guys! Very helpful stuff. I have my eye on a 2000 C4 Cabriolet with about 17K miles on it. However, I'm not married to have a cab, and like the coupe a little more actually....
  16. I just bought a 911 from ebay. Went to my friends at the local dealership, and got some great advice: get the car checked out locally. Either have it taken to a local Porsche dealership for a check out, or use Magoos.net. magoos checked my car, and it was just as they said it was when i showed up to pick it up. On a side note, the two dealers here in St. Louis are both first rate, and I would think either would give you a straight answer on a car you are checking! Good luck. Thanks. Any thoughts on Daniel Schmitt & Company? They seem to have a fair amount of 911's (993 and 996) available. They have one right now that I'm interested in. They are in St Louis as far as I can tell. Thanks again for any feedback on them in particular.
  17. Thanks guys... I check out the CPO section at Porsche.com. Last I looked, I didn't have much luck finding a CPO 911 with tip in my price range, but doesn't hurt to look again! BTW nsegative - AWESOME looking car. Best of luck with it!
  18. Folks, I'm embarking on research to make a purchase of a lifetime... My very first 911. I have been in love with this car since I was 16, and have finally decided life is too short... The 911 will primarily be a weekend car, and in an effort to let my wife share in the fun, it needs to be tiptronic. I've narrowed my focus to a 1999 - 2001 model, with a budget around 35K. Ideally I'd like to find something under 45K miles, as I'm worried higher miles will spell more repair costs sooner than later. With that, I've searched high and low locally (I'm in NJ) and have not found anything that’s a match. I've been browsing eBay, and indeed have seen some nice (or so they seem to be) 996 models listed. Notably from dealers in St Louis and Florida. Now I must admit, buying a car sight-unseen off eBay scares the hell out of me, and I'm curious if any members have purchased a Porsche this way? if so, does anyone know of a reputable on-line dealer to work with? Or in NJ for that matter... I realize a PPI is a must, but not sure how to arrange such a thing and the costs associated. Advice on that would be awesome. Also, what are the gotchas I should look for in a 1999-2002 996 model? Any advice on helping a newbie out with his first 911 purchase would be very appreciated! Regards, Bill
